They want people to watch it, they need to get it off of a paid streaming service.
True but they do allow your sports stations to show the matches when they are willing to pay for the tv rights from OneSoccer. So it’s on the broadcasters more than the league.

The broadcasters were willing to show the games when the league first began and then Canada Soccer and the CPL thought they could make more money selling the rights to MediaPro who created One Soccer. In their minds, people would flock to this service to see Canadian soccer. Not exactly what has happened.

Hence why this MLS/Apple deal will be watched closely by all leagues around the world.

Apple is another streaming service. If leagues want the expose to grow, they need to be on broadcast tv.
Over 30 games of the regular season/playoffs will be on Fox/FS1. Radio broadcasts are still an option, as is following on the MLS website.

2.5 Billion for MLS also helps it grow. Part of that money is going into advertising. Apple is already spreading the word about MLS. If this works, all leagues NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA will follow suit.

Apple wants to make a play for them, so why not? Apple could give each league $50 billion each for streaming rights if they wanted to. Would the big 5 leagues really turn that money down?
