Stupid names for a child

There was a family that had the last name of Dolla. The kids were all "a million" "a billion" and "a trillion". I also seen Johnny Walker, Tequila Rose

What does that have to do with someone dumb enough to use a nickname on their airline ticket?
The TSA agent can reject you from passing security if the names don't match. William is not the same as Bill. And yes people are that stupid. Have you seen them at the airport recently? Completely clueless.

I flew this month the day real ID was needed for the first time, saw zero issues. I can’t imagine TSA being a factor in naming babies.

My first name is hyphenated and state I live in doesn't allow a hyphen in the first name field on your driver's license. My passport has the hyphen. I always have to look before I present my ID to see which way it is printed on my ticket.

It should be. And the next thing that should be eliminated is women changing their name after marriage. That also can cause huge problems. If your passport name doesn't match your ticket name you will be denied boarding.

So, again, when you book your ticket, make sure it matches the ID you're going to use. If you're going off on a honeymoon right after the wedding, book the airfare in your maiden name.

I'm not sure why you're making this so difficult. How many millions of people fly with no issue, but have a shortened name or nickname they go by? Are there people who mess up when they book their ticket? Yes. But it's because they messed up. There are also people who mess up and try to carry a gun through TSA. Or scissors, or many other prohibited items. It's because they messed up.

When we named our three kids, "what name will be needed if/when the fly" didn't even factor into the decision.

People can't even drive a car down the freeway without killing themselves and others. 40,000 dead and millions of severe injuries every year. Fact is that people are flawed and make mistakes. Easiest way to reduce mistakes is to dumb everything down so that they are avoided.

You do understand many of those accidents are just that, right? Accidents. They're not all because someone made a mistake or a stupid decision. ETA: I guess according to your logic, speed limits should be set to 25mph and all cars should have governors in order to prevent those accidents from happening?

No one is saying you (or anyone) has to have long names for kids. You're the only one advocating "keep names simple", and that's simply because of going through TSA. Of the five people in my immediate family, actually 11 if you want to expand one set, only three don't have "shortened" names. Everyone flies and no one has had an issue.

If you want to do something to cover a 1% chance (if that) of something "bad" happening, go for it.

Absolutely. I was a transportation engineer in Seattle and that is exactly what we did. Lowered the speed limit on all city streets to 25 mph and narrowed the vast majority of them to 1 lane each direction to control speeds. Now even if someone wants to drive faster than 25mph they are stuck behind someone driving 25mph. We are also pushing for a change in state law so we can install speed enforcement cameras to keep speeds in check.
