My DH travels with one, and it is considered as a medical device that doesn't count as his carry-on. He has a very sturdy bag that came with the device. You have to let the TSA know that it's a c-pap before it goes into the xray machine. Give yourself some extra time if you are traveling at a busy time of day at your airport. The TSAs have to inspect the c-pap seperately which may delay you a bit. Hope this helps
I would definately NEVER check the cpap machine! What if it got damaged, delayed, or lost??? That is why they allow you to carry it on for free.
It's easy to carry on with you. We flew a few times with my son's cpap machine. We never had them open it our inspect it. (Perhaps that was because we were travelling with multiple medical devices and an obviously medically complex child??? The amount of equipment we had always overwhelmed them I think!) If they do inspect it though, insist that they wear fresh gloves.
No doctor's note is required if he is not using it during the flight.
