my husband has sleep apnea and we have to take his machine on as a carry on.....do we need proof from his dr that he needs it?

CPAP machines are medical equipment and can be carried on and not counted as one of your allowed carry ons. You will have to take the machine out so it can be inspected. You don't need a doctors note.

Yeah that's exactly how it goes.:)

I have travelled with mine many times but always pack it in a suitcase rather than bring it with my carry on. never had a problem.

I wouldn't pack a CPAP machine in your checked luggage. If your luggage gets delayed or lost - you might not have it for awhile.

My DH travels with one, and it is considered as a medical device that doesn't count as his carry-on. He has a very sturdy bag that came with the device. You have to let the TSA know that it's a c-pap before it goes into the xray machine. Give yourself some extra time if you are traveling at a busy time of day at your airport. The TSAs have to inspect the c-pap seperately which may delay you a bit. Hope this helps :)

I would definately NEVER check the cpap machine! What if it got damaged, delayed, or lost??? :confused3 That is why they allow you to carry it on for free.

It's easy to carry on with you. We flew a few times with my son's cpap machine. We never had them open it our inspect it. (Perhaps that was because we were travelling with multiple medical devices and an obviously medically complex child??? The amount of equipment we had always overwhelmed them I think!) If they do inspect it though, insist that they wear fresh gloves.

No doctor's note is required if he is not using it during the flight.

The worst thing they will do is an explosive test with the swabs this will not hold you up more than 2or3 min's

We bring a nebulizer and tons of medications. They've never asked for any doctor's note or proof, and the meds are lots of liquids too.

I agree, that I would carry it on. Never check anything medical, in case you need it and it got delayed or lost.
