my daughter is interested in applying for spring 15 and i've been able to find answers to most of my questions. i'm confused about ticketing / discounts for the student once the program ends. will she be able to get into the parks (im thinking no)?

we are going to buy AP's for that year so we can visit her while she's in the program then do family vacation / mini trips during the holiday events.

should she buy herself a discounted ticket while she's doing the CP to be used once it ends? i hope that makes sense. also, once the program ends will she be eligible for any discounts (booking DCL cruises / resort stays etc). i read somewhere about up to 50% off DCL which would be AMAZING!! i absolutely want to take advantage of that if that is truly possible

No discounts only take place if she's still a cast member. So, if you guys want to visit her take a vacation while she's doing the DCP.

Any and all discounts stop once she completes the program b/c she's no longer a CM. If she's looking to keep some of those 'perks', she'd have to get some sort of job w/in the company: full time, part time, or seasonal.

thanks for the quick replies...is it possible for her to buy a park ticket while she's in the program to use at a later date when she's not?

also....regarding the cruise, obviously she wouldn't be able to sail while she's in the program so i'm assuming she'd only need to book while a CM? anyone have experience with this?

thanks bunches

My friend who was a CM told me one of her friends doing the program took a cruise while he was in the program. It was a 4 day cruise.

I, too, want to know what happens if you book your cruise in advance and take it when you are out of the program

good morning

i've thought of another question....is her CM discount good online? (for example can she order from disney.com and have gifts shipped to the recipient?) our family has lots of bdays at the beginning of the year & it would be great for the kiddos to get disney presents.

For resort discounts they need to be an active CM at the time of travel, not booking. I'd assume it works the same with tickets and cruises as well.

For a discount for DisneyStore.com, there is a discount - under her account information, there should be a box where she can select that she is a CM and it'll ask for her CM info. Then it'll say on the main page something like "we'll be sure to add your Cast discount to your purchase". There's also a discount at the Disney Stores themselves - just need her work ID.

If you have any other questions, you're more than welcome to PM me!

You have to keep in mind she'll be on a 90 day probation period where things like cruises and Adventures by disney won't be bookable with a discount. It is that way for all CP's and CM's when they're first hired, after the 90 days then she would have access to book and you have to travel while she is still a cast member. It is that way for ALL discounts, you have to have a valid Cast ID at the time of check in to all resorts and cruises in order for it to be discount eligible still.

super!!! thanks to everyone for the replies

as far as the cruise we'll have to play it by ear since she would need to have the days off to travel. not that big of a deal if it doesn't happen but she's been wanting to go on another DCL cruise and it wouldn't be a hardship for the rest of us HAHA

so no discounts unless she's an active CM, got it. should i wait to buy our AP's once she is hired (assuming that happens) for a possible discount? would she be able to buy one for herself then activate it once the program ends?

last question..(for now anyway) years ago when we had AP's we got to know a few of the CM's at Pop Century. In one of the conversations i remember her saying that once you complete the program (can't remember now if it was the CP or the intern) that you only have to work a week a year to keep your CM status. after what i've learned here i'm assuming that is no longer correct. this was back when my daughter was in elementary school  so to say we've been looking forward to this it is a complete understatement!

the wait for sept so that she can apply is going to take forever

thanks again for all of the helpful info

That sounds like remaining statused as a "Seasonal" (Casual Temporary, to use HR-ese) cast member. I believe in order to maintain your status, you need to work 150 hours over the course of a rolling 12 month period. And submit your availability in advance 4 times a year.
