CP Age: Worrying about getting too old.

Hi Everyone.

I am currently a sophomore in college. I would LOVE to do the CP but my school refuses to give credit for any classes/work experience. Therefore, I would have to take a semester off.

Problem 1: My parents are not too keen on the idea. School has always been #1.

They finally agreed that if I can finish all my classes with one semester free (feasable by the end of my college career) I could take my last semester off to do whatever I want.

Problem 2: I will be 21 at this point. I am afraid of being "too old" to do the CP, staying with younger college kids and us not being able to relate to one another. Also, I fear Disney not wanting to accept me because of my "age." I don't want them to just suggest going out for a job, because quite frankly, I can't afford to support myself yet, and doubt I will be able to fresh out of college either.

Advice in any of these areas?

This has always been one of my dreams and is very important to me.

Oh you will definitely not be the oldest or "too old" to do a CP. People of all ages go down and no matter what you will find people who have things in common with you. I think the average ages are your typical college age students so anywhere from 18 to 22. On my last summer CP I was 22 and the youngest one in my apartment! Again you will find people younger than you and (a lot) older that you...but you shouldn't let age keep you from going for your dream!

Age is not an issue! I was 22 years old when I did my CP, and there were several others my age and/or there were others who had just graduated from college and were doing the CP.

I have never heard of an instance where Disney didn't accept someone into the CP because of their age. Age is not one of the criteria to do the CP. Being enrolled as a student at the time of application is, however.

The CP is a great place to start after you graduate. It is a paid internship, and it provides a wonderful experience. There are many students from different parts of the world participating in the CP/ICP.

Good to know! PrincessAsh....I'm also a sophomore in college and was worried about the exact same thing, thanks for starting the thread! My school doesn't give credit for the cp, and I can't afford to take a semester off between my scholarships and major requirements. I'm hoping I can do it the semester after I graduate. Thanks for the reassurance guys!

I was 23 last spring when I did my college program...and my roomates were 21, 21, 22, 23, and 25! If you think you will feel too old with younger girls, I would suggest requesting a 21+ apartment. I was sooooo happy I did! We all got along so well! and didn't have to deal with any alcohol related problems...since we were all of age!

Oh trust me, you will not be too "old" at 21. In fact, you will be young. I am going down this summer, and will be 23. Don't worry about it at all!

I am a junior in college, majoring in Music Education at the University of North Texas. I am also a HUGE Disney fan and I am going to ask for attractions, character attendant, or custodial. As long as you are over 18 by you're arrival date you are perfectly fine! I had a neighbor who was likt 48 last time, and he had a blast.

Age is totally not an issue!

I was worried about that too, because I plan to do the Fall '10 program, which I would have graduated college by then, and would be 22.
But after reading this, I'm ok with it now!
I would have done the CP during college, but I'm studying abroad in Italy, and would not have been able to take another semester away and still graduate on time.

Oh trust me, 22 is not that old for the CP. I was 22 last CP, and will be turning 23 over the next one (if I am accepted).

Have fun in Italy. I would love to study abroad, but I am scrambling to graduate as it is (and I am going to graduate a semester late, if I do graduate in Dec).

This thread makes me feel much better! I'm going to be 24 during the program - and it's not that I'll feel old, but I am more concerned about meeting people my age and also in my same situation (being married and having a masters degree).

being 21 just means you get to party more! You won't be old, you'll be in the prime baby!

OMG when a 21 year old is concerned about being too old, something is really really wrong (I mean that in a good way). My daughter is 24 and has applied for the fall program. She did the program before when she was 21 and loved it soooo much that she has decided to major in recreation and parks management with the intention of gaining full time employment at WDW. She is using this college program as her required 6 credit internship (basically I have pay college tuition for her to have an amazing Disney experience). Darn I wish I was "old" like you guys instead of a "young" 45 like I am. hahahahaha

Seriously though, on my last trip to the World I saw a woman and a man both wearing college program name tags and they appeared to be older than me. Don't worry, you will be absolutely fine and will have the time of your life!!

I was 22 when I did my college program. I waited until after I had graduated. Lots and lots of people were older than me on the program. Both of my roommates were a year or so older and several of the other girls in the apartment building were around 25 or 26. I had a blast! Don't worry about your age for a second. There were even a good number of CP's in their 40's and 50's. You're never too old to do something you love!

If you're going to turn 21 while your at the CP, can you be placed in the over 21 part of the complex? I don't even drink but I was just wondering about this question...

If you are under 21 at check-in, you are automatically placed into a Wellness apartment. However, once you turn 21 you can move into a non-wellness apartment.
