Please explain to me why people who complain they have too much work and not enough time can stand around and talk for several hours during the course of a day. I am sitting in my cubicle now and listening to 4 or 5 coworkers(?) standing around *****ing/talking when all they do later is then complain about too much work to do.....help...

Sorry...just really needed to vent or i'm going to lose my mind...and by the way its everyday this happens.....

Also my pet peeve. :scared: I used to work in a state agency where many employees slept, read their bibles, talked on the phone, etc., etc. all day long. We even had an employee who another co-worker swore had another job because the employee was getting paid by our agency but was rarely in the building.

Yet all these people complained endlessly about how busy they were. I was such a little do-gooder that I would go around helping everybody when my own work was done. After all, our agencies mission was the health of children and EVERYBODY wants to make sure kids are taken care of, right??

I quickly learned that the folks complaining about how busy they were were the folks doing the most goofing around. It's very disheartening to work in health care and realize that many of your co-workers don't care enough about the agency's mission to do their jobs.

I guess it's like that everywhere. I'm a hard worker and it's frustrating to always be the responsible one!! I can't say that the hard workers are rewarded in any material way. :headache:

I hear you. I have a coworker who comes in late and leaves early every day, spends the first 2 hours getting coffee, takes a 20-minute smoke break every hour...and the minute someone comes to her desk to ask her a question, she slams down her work and snaps, "I don't have time for your questions, I'm SWAMPED!" Before she leaves, she throws unfinished work back in the bin (we share the work), saying, "I don't have time to do this; someone else will have to do it." :sad2:

I too am too responsible - shame on me- I will sit and do my work and then when they route out extra work I get extra because my counts are lower. huh? so maybe i should just slow down so it will look like i have more work then maybe i will get less extra work routed to me.

Unfortunetely this goes against my better nature and my upbringing. I dont mind doing the work its just the principle.

I also hate that there are 1 or 2 other employees who are always coming up with something so they can leave early(drs appts - ummm cant you make these after work hours since you get out at 3 pm or its my kids birthday - yeah hes 13 now 14 and you have to leave early every year on his birthday - if thats the case why dont you take 1/2 day off.

Thanks for letting me vent - its helps a tiny bit.

I wear my ipod at work all day long so I can skip the ridiculous conversations going on around me ;)

Ugh, I hear ya. I love the guys I work with, and for all the messing around at work they do, they also do work hard, just not during business hours... But they're checking in work at like 2:30 am, and all of my check-ins are before 4pm when I leave to go get DD from school.

The thing I hate is that it is PERCEIVED that they do more work than I do. Even though I'm the one with the empty queue... And I'm the one with the fewest bugs to fix. Ahem.

I don't blame it on the co workers (though I see how so many of you could from these stories) because my co workers really DO do their share... I blame it on management for being so stupid as to not see that.

We have one lady who misses at least one day a week, (she'll call at 8:30 to say she can't come in at 9), is always late, asks for certain shifts because she says she has to work around her kid's schedules and then goes out partying instead. When she is there, it's nothing but listening to her drama and how we should feel sorry for her. Heck, I'm a single parent also right now, DH has been gone for a month and probably won't be home until Christmas, but I don't pull those antics.

It really affects the rest of us because there's only 5 in our work area, so if she doesn't show everyone has to scramble to cover her responsibilities. My assistant manager sees it, but unfortunately my manager doesn't and she's the one who refuses to deal with it. And when they call at 9am on my day off, I look like the bad one because I can't come in and work a 10 hour shift right then because *gasp* It's My Day Off and oddly enough I've made plans.

I just keep my head down, do my work, help out when needed and I figure Karma will get her eventually. :rolleyes1

The funny thing is that the people who ask for these special favors from the mgr are the first ones to say that the mgr does nothing for them and never talks to them. yeah right...

I can sympathize. I have a co-worker who comes in late EVERY day, takes about 5 smoking breaks a day for 15-20 minutes each and takes a full lunch hour every day then complains that she's overwhelmed. She quit smoking last week, but she STILL takes the "smoke" breaks with her friend who quit, too, so they can gossip.

OT...sorry, just wanted to let you know I clicked on your dragons eggs. :rotfl2: Did you know one was stolen? :scared1: :)

I wonder how many of these people hang out on internet bulletin boards all day?!? :surfweb: Talk about slackers!

*snork* Just kidding ;).

Unfortunately, I think these situations exist in almost every work place. I've sure worked with some people like that, and it took me a long time to realize and accept the fact that there is nothing I can do about it. If I think about it, then it only makes me feel stressed out. All I can do is try to do my job as well as I can, and not worry about what others are doing (or not doing). I certainly understand your frustration though.
