Covid + the day we got home

Sailed on the magic for the double dip! Cruise was great weather was great, for it being only 1400 guests things like pirate party and sail away party seemed a bit crowded actually.

Debarked on Saturday at 9:30- home at 5 pm and started with chills, full blown sick Sunday tested positive for covid Monday.

Apparently I'm not alone, in our cruise group multiple people are sick.

I did notice a lot of coughs , sniffles and otherwise while on board! Kicking myself for not moving one night at the show when the man in front of us was coughing, sneezing and blowing his nose!

Cruise was great, covid stinks though! Anyone else get sick right after their cruise?

We got it after returning home from the last Disney cruise at sea back in 2020. Did not even know we had it. I just thought that I had a sinus infection. Husband had a slightly achy back. Disney notified us that people had tested positive. We thought it was the right thing to do and got tested. Surprise! Sorry you have it worse than we did.

That stinks, hope you feel better soon. Trying not to say too much here, as I know the Covid policy is pretty strict, but to answer your question, we got Covid from Disney World but haven't gotten sick from a Disney Cruise yet, though I suspect with the switch from PCR to antigen testing Disney Cruise cases are going to rise. Honestly, you could get it anywhere these days.

we were on the Double Dip cruise as well. So far we are all feeling fine. I didn't notice anyone with the symptoms mentioned above (thankfully). We masked up for our flights to and from Miami (across the country) and in our pre stay hotel. Once we were onboard we ditched the masks until our Nassau excursion (until we got on our snorkeling boat).

The whole trip was really smooth sailing ... literally! We cruised "at speed" leaving Miami and returning to Miami from Nassau, otherwise we were cruising at 7 knts/hour max. I think that other than the Leaving / Returning to Miami the most motion the ship had was while docked in Nassau!

This cruise has been two years in the making and moved at least 4 times.

My thoughts

• The 3 main shows were terrific, there has been some change ups in them ... Ann Marie playing on a tablet vs. reading a book (along with several scenes in all of the shows being changed).
• Visiting Artist: Lisa Karlin (Mother Gothel and Madame Tremaine) was AMAZING! She had a 7:30 show in Fathoms, Great Voice!!!
• The magician was good enough but nothing special ... DCL has had many Much Better ones in the past.
• We skipped watching Turning Red as we saw it at home last week on Disney+
• Food in the MDR's - very good and appropriate portion sizes
• Breakfast and Lunch in Cabanas ... again the food was surprisingly good. And lots of varieties. And in the past the desserts looked really pretty and good, but frequently didn't taste that great. This time the flavors were there most of the time.
• Lots of Activities on board even on the port days.
• Lots of Characters to interact with. Mickey & Co. were usually socially distanced, but the "face" characters (Mulan, Belle, Tianna, Rapunzel, etc) were walking around and interacting with guests
• Ship was in great shape
• Lots of variety of items in the stores
• Weather - PERFECT
• And it appeared to me that there were MORE Cruise Staff on board than in our prior to COVID cruises. I love that because more opportunities to interact with them and with more of them, more activities can be available
• Pirate Night and Sail Away parties were unexpected and fun. We stayed up on deck after the fireworks were finished and the party was winding down, off in the distance I saw other fireworks - and they were from the Dream heading back to Port Canaveral ... pretty cool
• Palo brunch was fully served - no walk about and pick up what you want when you want it. Food as always - amazing. Server Claudius was amazing as well.

This was a MUCH needed vacation in the warmth of the Bahamas. Can't wait to do it again

Why would you report it?

So that DCL can notify others and more importantly isolate the crew members (servers, stateroom hosts) who were in close contact and thus help to stop the spread.

Someone not reporting it when she got sick and tested positive 2 days after being on the Wonder just before the WBPC in 2020 led to more people being exposed because the servers had no clue and continued working and thus spreading.

Our family, like yours, masked while on planes, in the airport, transfers to our hotel and back, and at our hotel when near others. Our adult daughter got sick yesterday - fever, sore throat, congestion. She tested last night and negative so far. She’s already starting to feel better today. I’m sure she’ll be testing again in a few days to make sure she isn’t positive. Wonderful cruise!!

Why would you report it?

Can't tell, if this is an honest question. Why wouldn't you? There are several good reasons to report transmissible diseases, and especially on a cruise ship. This is not new. In 2018 a lot of people on our sailing, ourselves included, got Norovirus. One of my children saw the onboard doc, but we all got it subsequently, as did many others. Reports are important for ships so that they can look at their protocols and procedures. On our sailing the hygiene standard had visibly (and uncharacteristically) lapsed, and on a ship that has immediate health consequences. Besides, DCL has elected to participate in the Covid-19 program for Cruise Ships. So this data is important to them. However, I haven't seen a good path to report back to them, other than how we did in 2018 - via our post-cruise survey.

The CDC claims that their color coding is based on onboard cases as well as cases in the days following a cruise. I don't know how they track those cases, but it's possible that they're receiving information from DCL and various state agencies. But I guess that doesn't work for self testing and I really doubt that the CDC has bandwidth to track everyone that was on a cruise unless they're investigating a specific ship.

From the CDC's website: "However, if CDC is notified by state or local health departments of passenger cases occurring within 5 days after disembarkation, these cases may be included when determining a ship’s color status."

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a way to tell Disney that you tested positive.

I sent an email to DCL , it says it can take up to 20 days to receive a response.

Honestly, you can catch it anywhere now. BIL caught it on a family vacation to an all inclusive in the DR during spring break. Tested negative the day before the flight home. Symptoms started on the flight home. Testing doesn’t catch all the cases.

Not sure I follow you. Everyone I know who has had covid has had symptoms on day 2 after being exposed.

BIL tested positive when he got home from the airport. So he was positive on the plane ride home after testing negative the day before they left the DR.

My niece was notified that she had contact with someone positive between January 27-29. (An app she had on her phone, details of which I am unaware). We were all together most of the time; fortunately, no symptoms in our group.

Masks were a rarity onboard.

I don't think DCL has ever done contact tracing for illness not identified onboard. While I understand the intent - as a business policy I can also understand how they can't interrupt operations (i.e. quarantine CMs) based off a test result they can't confirm.
