Covid Comeback?

Everyone here seems to be picking it up - including a dear friend who's pregnant :( We haven't had an inoculation in a while, masks went from a must to optional to never used any more and as for social distancing, well, it isn't anymore.

Have we let our guard down?

Got a booster last week. My wife and daughter's employers in the past two weeks have had to deal with covid outbreaks and my Facebook feed is full of people out sick with it. My newest Grandchild was born June 24 and we won't get to meet her for another few weeks due to recommended (not required) quarantine from people outside her "bubble". Also, my DIL had a C-section and recommended quarantine from outside her bubble is also a month. While covid is ALMOST like a cold or flu now, it still is a few notched above if there are ANY potential health issues.

Absolutely I’ve finally recovered from the paralyzing fear of contracting Covid. Sure it took a couple years and 2 rounds of Covid before I let the fear go but I have and so has pretty much everybody I see in the world. Why guard against what you don’t fear anymore? It’s endemic now so we’ve learned to live with it just like we have the flu. We all get sick, most of us get better. Such is the cycle of life.

My DD had it while pregnant, around Thanksgiving in 2021. It was fine. I think grandson had it as a baby sometime in later 2022. I see some more elderly and vulnerable people wearing masks around here still.

Just be aware if at the Disney parks (or anywhere there are a bunch of kids) you'll definitely want to be more careful about hand washing before touching food or your face. That was true pre-Covid. Kids are just loveable little germ carriers.

I try hard NOT to judge others who are wearing masks (could be they are worried they might have a cold and are protecting Us) or they may be very high risk for complications if they get sick but want to enjoy life a little too. If I see someone in a mask I always share a smile with them, same as I would someone in a wheelchair - people just want to be accepted as they are, and it costs Nothing to be kind to strangers.

P.S. I was skeptical recently seeing someone outside alone wearing a mask at Disney, but a friend who works in the ER said they likely are just trying not to take the mask on and off a zillion times a day to avoid contaminating it by touch - or needing to carry a ton of extra (expensive if high quality) masks. Live and learn.

I think enough people have been vaccinated multiple times and covid has mutated into something milder that it isn't the serious health crisis it was when it was first identified a few years ago.

It's the summer spike....I'm just about over it, got it last weekend. I know so many people who've had it in the last two weeks...or now. I read this spike is higher than last summer. They can tell by the amount of covid in our wastewater.

🤷🏽‍♀️
I still wear masks and briefly wondered if I would get any flak from wearing it at WDW then realized that I didn’t care what anyone else thought about the topic.

Someone did comment on my wearing one- she said it was pretty (covered in rhinestones and dyed in my flesh tone) and I thanked her.

I suppose everyone has to do what makes them feel comfy.

I've worn a mask around customers this week who wanted me to show up....and I let everyone know I had covid. But I did work. I avoided the grocery store.

So far my husband hasn't gotten it from me. We have a big trip to South Africa in seven weeks, so I'm hoping I'll have good immunity before we go. I could have functioned through a vacation with what I had, but it was a fair amount of coughing early on. I'll likely get the booster before we go in early September.

For me this time, it was definitely just a "cold"....no fever or chills. Hoping it's like this from here on out.

It may not be a serious health problem for you or me, but there are people for whom it is - very elderly and immunocompromised. Plenty of elderly people die each year from the flu also.

It seems to come in waves after holidays. All the elderly people in church were sick in June probably Mother's Day gatherings, seems to be quieting back down but some haven't returned to daily Mass and I assume they are still fighting it off. When I had it I was sick and positive 30 full days, wasn't great. I am still masking.

I expect to time my vaccine for just before Halloween to cover through the holiday surges, since they say it wanes after 90 days this seems best to match with all that. I time Flu 30 days later to let my body rest in between and match Flu season, Flu tends to pop off after Thanksgiving & linger through Easter.

My wife, special needs son and myself (our household at the time - we now have my terminally ill 88-year-old MIL living with us) had it once in July of ‘22.
My wife had it the worst, our son to a lesser degree and it was just like a slightly annoying cold to me.
At the time, we had all had both initial Moderna doses and at least one booster.
None of us has had a booster in well over a year.
We were just in WDW from June 26th-July 2nd.
The morning of June 30th, my wife had what initially seemed like just some allergy sniffles. Our son started having issues towards mid-day and I had no issues at all.
Our oldest DD, SonIL, 2 young granddaughters and youngest DD were staying in an adjacent room at OKW. Oldest DD had a box with 2 tests in it that she put by our front door that night. It had only 2 tests in it.
Both DWifey and DS tested positive. Even though I had no symptoms, we just assumed I was gonna’ be positive, as well.
DWifey and DS’s Covid symptoms were nowhere near as bad as last time, and I never had any symptoms.
But, we missed our last Park day at DHS with the rest of our family, and that sucked. We love them all dearly, and my DWifey was, initially, in tears.
Anyhoo…
After we got home we all tested again (me for the first time), and DWifey and DS were still positive, and I was negative. I never tested positive.
Also, we haven’t worn masks for quite some time, although we did wear them on the flight home, and around my MIL once we got home, but she never exhibited any symptoms or tested positive.
At this point (and I’m no doctor or virologist), I’m of the mindset that the vast majority of all those who would be severely affected by this already have been, and for most of the rest it’ll just be an occasional annoyance.
I don’t mean that to sound hard-hearted, although it probably does, but it’s just my thoughts regarding such, at this point in time.

I still mask if I am going to be in a crowded indoor space, and I mask at places where people tend to go when they are sick, like the grocery store or pharmacy. I mask indoors at Disney, on Disney transportation, or if I am in a crowd outdoors such as parades or fireworks, where the same people are standing near me for an extended period of time.

So far as I am aware, I have not yet had Covid unless I was completely asymptomatic and did not know to test. I would prefer to keep it that way.

Getting a booster in 40 minutes. We have an Alaskan cruise in 2 weeks and I'm hearing Covid is heavy on the trains and cruises.

Last booster was January.

So far, I've never caught it.

Edit- Although I made an appointment online, when I got to Walgreens they told me the vaccines had been pulled until they come out with flu shots in August.

They apologized that the app allowed us to make appointments and encouraged us to come back in August.

So no boosters today. If I can't get one before the cruise, I'll just mask diligently.
