Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Weights are hard for me. I have a really bad relationship with the scale, to the point that I have had to back away from weigh ins so that I stay in a mentally healthy place with tracking my weight. I go for my annual check up next week and while I'm sure the doctor will be thrilled at my progress, I'm already worried about the scale and how it's going to read a few pounds higher than it will at my normal weigh in time when I know I'll be at my lowest for the day...to the point that I am already pre-forming conversations with her on the subject. I'm still weighing in at home but it's usually once or twice a month vs. daily or weekly. I had flipped to daily for a while since weekly can be so devastating to someone like me if that weekly weigh in day happens to coincide with some water retention or other reasons you might weigh more that aren't actually attributed to you gaining fat. In fact, the scale has been in the same normal flux 5lb range since Christmas week but my hips and waist (among other things) are several inches smaller with the same scale weight. Again...really bad relationship with the scale. So, I am going to try a different angle on this...at least for a couple of them.

1. Pound Cake - My base recipe for pretty much all of my cakes is a pound cake. While it is technically a pound cake by measures, it is a flavored one which can be modified to a variety of flavors. The original recipe was an apple pie spiced pound cake with apple pie filling, but it has been everything from coffee flavored with mocha frosting, coconut with tropical fruit fillings, cookies and cream, s'mores, chocolate covered banana, wine, etc.

2. Kitchen Scale - It's ironic how weighing my food and being honest about what I'm consuming has such a profound impact on the scale that measures my personal body weight. Still, it's a cheap yet tremendously helpful tool and compact enough to go on the road.

3. Gym Weights - I don't think any of the machines let you add in increments less than 2.5 lbs, but even boosting your lifts by 2.5 lbs means you're working harder and growing your muscles towards your goals.

Evening all,

I'm probably very similar to Tigger atm and have quite a bad relationship with the scale and weight in general. I've been within pounds of my goal weight and the past few months I've been struggling to shift any weight according to the scales, despite the fact that my diet is on track and I feel I'm being healthier than ever before. It's frustrating. :( so I'm not feeling particularly grateful for pounds at the moment!

1. Kitchen scales - I second Tigger on these too, these too. These have been great for me to help me be realistic about what I'm eating.

I'm not good with weights in general so haven't a clue what is equivalent to either a pound or half a kilo, so have gone rooting in my cupboards! 😂

2. Cereal - a box of my usual blueberry wheats cereal weighs 500g, and this is one of my popular breakfasts throughout the week.

3. Butter - a standard tub of unsalted butter weighs 500g too and this is mandatory when making things like toast or putting on savoury hot cross buns!

Orange things...

DH got his PhD at Syracuse University, so we were BIG football and basketball fans during those years (1986-1991) and beyond. Go, ORANGE, GO!!

Macaroni-and-cheese... My favorite food, be it orange or white!

Peaches- While not a fan of the fresh fruit unless they are from Colorado (we get terrible peaches here in Maine, all mushy by the time they ripen), I love peach "stuff:" pie, jam, tea, ice cream, etc.

I’m horrible with weights so I have no clue but I will agree
Butter
Pound of sugar
Anything past that point I’m totally clueless I just don’t pay attention to what it weighs I pay attention to what I weigh but not what item I purchase or pick up not when it’s that small stuff starts getting over 10 pounds then I start paying attention

Orange items
Pumpkins
Sweet potatoes
I’m at a loss for a third one I’d say my Halloween decorations there’s a lot of orange items in those it’s just not one of my favorite colors

Flower Bulbs - I probably shouldn't express gratitude until I receive the bulbs, get them to grow and see them produce flowers BUT I put in a belated order for bulbs the other day so I can spruce up several of our flower beds. It's already a little late in the season, but it should be OK. One of the things I picked is this really stunning variety of Asiatic lilies with orange tipped petals. I'm not the best with plants, but I'm better with outside stuff and I think these (along with a few other things) will add a nice punch of color against the giant elephant ears and hostas I'm going to try.

All of my orange sneakers - It's one of my favorite colors (probably the Syracuse alum part) and I usually have one orange pair in rotation. I just retired a pair of neon orange Brooks :( I hate doing it but the pain I experienced on Sunday told me I pushed them past their prime. They've served me well. I still have a light orange pair of brooks in the mix as well as some orange Adidas gazelles and some orange New Balance that are one of my more favorite pairs for the gym. They're nice and flat for lifting.

Mbuna African Cichlids - I used to have a community tank. Mbunas were the dominant variety. In the early phases, I had this big bright orange one and it became the dominant breeder in the tank. I had all different colors of cichlids, especially the mbuna variety, but because of this one I wound up with a lot of orange or orange calico fish. These fish are really aggressive and unlike most of the captive fish world, the advice to keep them peaceful is overcrowding. Seriously! It helps keep them from monopolizing territory. So, my tank was usually a beautiful whir of fish with A LOT of orange in the mix (had a lot of blues, yellows, whites, but orange was dominant). Just picture a lot of these in varying sizes.

Good Friday Morning

#1 - :stitch2: - In 11 days I get to make our ADR for breakfast with our friend Stitch. It’s our favorite thing to do on our go home day.

#2 - :smickey: - Sorcerer Mickey is my favorite Mickey, so I’m always grateful to see his blue sorcerer hat, and yes, I loved that big sorcerer hat at MGM back in the day.

#3 - :sulley: - Teal is form of blue. When we got our puppy in Aug 2024, we originally named him Sully but then changed it to Otis due us accidentally calling him Sophie, which was our dog that passed away. Sully was to close to Sophie - his named needed to start with a different letter. His AKC name does have Sully in it though to never forget his original name.

Cell Phone- My current iPhone is navy blue. Like so many of us, I don't know how I'd manage without it.

Blue Brooks- I have several pairs of Glycerins in rotation. While I think my peach ones are the most comfortable (still don't understand why the same model in different colors can feel different), my blue ones match more outfits. I have to remind myself that foot comfort and injury prevention with proper shoe rotation takes precedence over matching outfits. Still, I'm especially happy on my blue shoe days where I can be all matchy-matchy. It just makes it feel like everything is a little more right in the universe.

Garmin- It's really more of a teal, but I tend to view teal more towards the blues than the greens (a debate DH and I have had). I wasn't a fan of spending $ on getting a new one, but I signed myself up for races and accuracy in pacing and distance gives me an honest picture of where I'm at and what I should expect for my races next weekend. My old one was sort of a slate blue, so I can be grateful for the times when it used to be accurate as well. So, I'm thankful for the technology that goes into this tool... as well as the big boosts of confidence the data is providing.

Afternoon all,

1. Blue cars - my old car was a beautiful bright blue and I really miss it. With my next car I will definitely be going back to blue!

2. Sky - you know it's always going to be a nice day when you can see beautiful blue sky.

3. Clothes - blue is one of my favourite colours when it comes to clothing, from jeans and denim jackets to jumpers and even dresses.

Blue skies
Blue water in the ocean especially when I’m sitting on the beach looking at them or even better when I’m on a cruise ship sailing on them ❤️❤️❤️ I’ll take either one or both
Mountains I know they’re not blue but they always look blue far away often in the distance when you’re viewing them they look blue they’re so gorgeous

I must love blue clothes because I have tons of them between blue jeans and blue sweatshirts and blue sweaters I have a lot of blue

I have on my fair share of blue cars and I have come to the conclusion that the saying bad luck blue is true for me and I will no longer own a blue car but I’ve had a lot of of them through the years I think they’re pretty but they just don’t seem to work well for me ymmv

I’ve tried painting rooms blue I’ve just never cared for and always ended up painting in a different color I just don’t know why because I do like the color blue 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
