Cove coffee card may no longer carry over

Just to echo some of the others, I also asked on my Dream sailing 3/2 and asked about this topic specifically as I remember reading about it. I was advised they will honor the cards for now however going forward it is changing. The cards on the Dream had not changed at that point but he advised they will be and @anricat noted her card from the Magic has already been updated with the new change.

This doesn't impact me personally however i understand it's important to others so I wanted to follow-up.

Not to come from a negative perspective but I would assume some found a way to manipulate the cards and I would also assume it was wide enough they felt they needed to make a change. Too bad they can't find a way to incorporate this into the DCL Navigator app to track your purchases and then let them carry over, much like the Starbucks app does. Hmm.. :)

A dumb move on DCL's part as this is hitting their best built-in guest that sails frequently and would bring back a card from their last cruise. These are the guests a cruise line should acknowledge and thank but instead Disney seems bent on pi**ing off with minor changes that has no affect on the highest majority of guests or in reality their bottom line.
At least at home when searching for alternative cruises :surfweb: the coffee is still a reasonable cost.

I was thinking the same thing. Starbucks can manage it for millions of people, can't Disney figure something out?

IMO there's no reason they couldn't create some sort of system linked up to guest's Castaway Club IDs. After all, KTTW cards list the member number and level on them. If the CC website can list past and upcoming cruises I'm sure they could add something on there, even if it's behind the scenes, so that it's as simple as a swipe of the KTTW card at Cove. And of course then have that functionality linked up to the DCL app.

It's got me thinking now that what Disney really needs to do is a complete overhaul of that app so that guests can do more, like log into their Disney account to access Castaway Club info, track their onboard account, manage reservations and such. It mightn't seem viable to them right now but once they have 6 ships something will need to be done.

Just curious why the fleet size would impact the need for different app functionality? Why do you need CC info while you are on the ship, since the app only works on the ship? You can track your onboard account on the new ships in your stateroom, hopefully something that will come to the classics as well. You can also go to guest services. Why would you need to manage reservations while you are on a ship at the time? There's nothing about the current reservation you need to be able to manage. You can access the DCL website if you need to do something with another reservation while on the ship.

Could somebody post a pic of the new card?

Sorry, I didn't get a new card because we were only on a 5 night. I wasn't going to be buying enough coffee to fill it up so I didn't bother. In fact, I found myself less motivated to visit Cove Cafe because I knew there was no way I was going to fill a card and I couldn't bring it back!

They have something similar at WDW. It would be great if you could make Palo reservations, book spa services, excursions from your phone. It would cut down on lines at GS.

I am well aware of the MDE app. You can make all those reservations by either visiting the location or calling the appropriate number. It's not hard and shouldn't require a trip to Guest Services. Even better is to make reservations before your cruise.

So I wrote to DCL and this is what they said:

As you know, the Cove Café offers a Cove Fanatic Card that a Guest can
get stamped for purchasing coffee based drinks. After a Guest purchases
5 coffee based drinks, the 6th coffee based drink will be complimentary.
The card can only be used at the designated location.
Since the Cove Fanatic Card program is subject to change without notice,
it may only be able to be used on the sailing it was received. With that
being said, you may take the Cove Fanatic Card with you on your next
sailing; however, there is no guarantee it can be used on that cruise.
I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance with any other inquiries, please feel free to contact us.
We look forward to sailing again with you!
Have a Wonderful Day.

So she basically told me that she doesn't know. :upsidedow

We sailed on the Wonder April 2016 and received a card when we left it had about two punches on it. We used the card again on the Magic during February 2017 cruise. The lady that took our order noticed it was an old card and gave us a new card with the two punches plus what we used on the Magic. We had no problem with it.

I got the new card on our last cruise. No one bothered to write a date on it. I plan on bringing it back in June, I usually fill up two cards on a 7 day cruise, might do three on our 10 day cruise in June. I only drink their latte in the morning and maybe a tea in the afternoon. My adult grand kids all get their own cards and generally fill at least one, st our expense of course!

So it sounds like they are honoring old cards being brought back as long as they were started before the new policy was put in place? But new cards will not carry over?

So, basically it sounds like it's completely inconsistent, which also comes down in the negative side for me. It either needs to be YES or NO so we have some clear expectations. I didn't even get a new one because I was told I couldn't bring it back. But now I find well maybe I could have possibly? Not cool.
