Well here I am again...so sorry for being MIA for so long. It has been a busy few weeks and also I have been rather lazy. I hope you all are doing great! Can't wait to catch up on all of your planning too.
I just wrote a whole ton of stuff and somehow deleted it...bummer. So I am starting over. We had or planning session last Friday and it was a big blur but super fun and exciting too. At least from what I can remember. I am sad we won't beback at Disney untul the wedding...but it will be all the more fun.
Here's what I can remember:
Carol: She is our planner and an absolute doll and easy and fun to work with.
Laura: Our floral designer; she is great, funny, and amazing at what she does.
Colors/tables/chairs: We confirmed that our colors are going to be burgundy/plum and navy blue. We chose the crinkly table clothes over white linens. We are going to try to cover every table but I highly doubt that will be in the budget. I'll let you know once the BEO comes in.
We are keeping the hideous ballroom chairs but covering them with chair covers. Our chair covers will be ivory with a burgundy sash and the napkins will be burgundy too. We didn't want to get too red, white, and blue.
Centerpieces: We chose larger centerpieces for the 4 tables we will have on the ADH dancefloor. They will be motsly burgundy flowers with navy accents and some green as well. We will have light-up gel inside the vase. I cannot remember which vase we chose...I took no pictires at this point. We will have candles surrounding the centerpieces.
Then we will have smaller centerpieces on smaller tables throughout ADH, to include vases filled with starfish, and some with candles.
Other decor: Unfortunately ADH cannot use the drapery I had hoped for- the kind that you hang from the ceiling with lights...and this isn't the only disappointment we had....
Cake: We met with It's Tasty Too to talk about a groom's cake and we were extremely pleased with their choices and tastes. Everything was delicious, moist, tasty. The fillings were amazing...for the cake, we decided on an old world globe with maps and compasses surrounding it. We chose funfetti cake with a layer of caramel filling, a layer of hazelnut filling, and a layer of dark chocolate ganache...amazing. And it only cost $100 with free delivery. Impressive...and now to the crappy part. The next day we arrive at Disney and when discussing the cake they tell us that we can't use an outside vendor for the cake, not even at the rehearsal at Ariel's. So we have to cancel.
This stinks. Of course I was optimistic b/c it's Disney and they will make up for it. We get to the tasting, which was amazing btw, and at the very end we try the Disney cake options....what a disappointment. First, the cake was dry, and there were VERY few options...and no funfetti. Yes, I realize funfetti is not that classy but still, offer it. Then we get to the fillings...what a horrible choice for Disney to offer such minimal crummy fillings...they only offer mousse...???? I was really annoyed by this. They won't let us use the people we want for just a grooms cake, and they force us to buy their expensive $1000 cake, and then they don't even offer anything close to being as good? I don't even know how to describe it other than it was extremely disappointing and a huge let down. I expected WAY more from Disney. I cannot fathom paying $1000 for a dry cake that has flavored sugar and milk...essentially what a mousse is. I know I sound like a lunatic but I am a baker and I am having trouble with this.
On a better note, they are checking to see if we can get different fillings, other than mousse. Hopefully they can. Anyone else have this issue? How was your cake? Did it taste good? What we tried was sad.
Tasting: to end things on a happier note, the tasting was magnificent. Chef Charles is a genious and he prepared wonderful meals. He's pretty funny too. Way too much food though. But I am okay with that.
Apps were crab cakes with dill sauce and spanikopita with olive and artichoke tapenade. Delicous. The crab cakses could have been a little more fresh, they tasted a tiny bit fishy but overall not bad.
We had sweet corn and crab chowder with pancetta that was out of this world. A definite "yes" for everyone.
Next we tried chicken francais with lemon suace and it was fab. Everyone liked it but Brian's mom who said it was bitter...I disagree. This comes from a woman who makes canned green beans for Thanksgiving...but we all have different opinions and that's alright. He served this with mushroom risotto that was awesome, and carrots that were yummy. I think this is the order all the food was in....it's hard to remember but you will see when I post pictures.
Then came the mustard rubbed sirloin with roasted potatoes..both so delicious. This one is a "yes".
Last was the mahi mahi with creamed spinach and bacon and orzo...a total "yes" from everyone again. SO good. I can't choose between the orzo and the risotto. Help me!
For dessert we had cheescake and chocolate torte...these almost make up for the cake disaster lol ... they were yummy.
All in all it was a great experience. I know I might harp on the negative stuff but in reality Disney is the best ever and they try so hard to make you happy. I am very pleased. I know in my heart that no matter what we choose it will be amazing. And anyway, I am marrying Brian, so that makes it perfect.
Pictures to come. Love you all! xoxo.
