Re: STOLEN PURSE
I've had this happen to me as well and it just sucks. Thankfully, at the time, I had no credit cards but I still had to replace ID, etc.
One suggestion I have is this: When you renew your driver's license, keep the old one OR you should go in for a duplicate after getting your new one. Tell them you don't like the photo or something and pay the $8 to get a replacement. In NY, they let you keep the current one so when the new one arrives, you'll have 2. (but only the barcode on the newer one will be valid)
The reason I say this is because (at least in NY), it is a pain in the neck to replace a lost or stolen driver's license. You have to come up with a crazy amount of identification (and who has that if your stuff was lost/stolen?) in order to replace it. If you happen to have an old driver's license, that's all the ID you would need to replace it.
As for credit cards, etc. I don't even carry mine around unless I plan on using them that particular day. All my credit cards are in a business card holder book and I take whatever card I'm going to use out only when I plan on using it.
Social Security Card: I don't carry it at all. It's not necessary to carry unless you're opening an account or getting a job. It's in my "safe box"
Debit Cards: Yes, I carry them. However, I bank with TD and they will cancel your debit card the second you call in and report it lost/stolen AND will replace it on the spot in the bank.
Cash: I never carry a lot. Only what I need for what I'm doing that day. Whoever is going to rip me off will be sorely disappointed!
