How's the school year going so far?

This is only our second week with children. Also, I teach kindergarten and we do staggered introduction. The students are divided into small groups for each day (5-8 kids from each class per day) instead of all 23 at once. It give us a change to do pretesting and get them familiar with the school before all 23 are there at one time. We do it for two weeks. Then on the 31st all of my 23 little darlings will be there at once. Last year I only has 16 little ones and it was heaven. This year our numbers are through the roof.

I have one little one who has already shown himself to be an interesting case all in his own. It was the first time ever in 9 years of teaching that I had to call the principal in on the first day. I will not go into details but I ended up with some bruises and the other little ones learned a few off-color words their first day in school. (from him not me, although I thought them) All of this and he JUST turned 5 three weeks ago.

OH MY what a way to kick off the year!

Other than that one little guy, I am really happy with what I have seen so far. I have quiet a few who have real challenges to overcome (hearing impairment, brain injury, English Language Learners) but I think they will make it to the final goals we have set for them.
