couple of questions

Hiya all

Anyone know how long the lines maybe in July?

When we went to DLP this Aug seemed to spent all our time lining up for the popular rides.
One day space mountain was only open for 30min and the wait was 110 min
Tried to use fastpass but can only use it 3 times a day (is this same at WDW)
also the fastpass slots very quickly ran out.
Not that i mind queuing is expected at busy times of the year.

Other question is think i saw somewhere that you can fill an ice bucket to take to your room? Would that be right, if so where would i get the bucket
10$ per night for a fridge seems quite steep to me, the only bit of shopping we will have will be on way from the airport as no car.

But, with careful planning, taking advantage of the Extra Magic Hours (early entry and extra evening hours for on-site guests), and using Fastpass you shouldn't need to wait in line for very long at all
Fastpass rules are slightly different in WDW - when you get a Fastpass ticket it will tell you a what time you can get another Fastpass. So, if you get to the parks early, you may be able to get a number of Fastpasses for the most popular rides
Fastpasses on some rides do 'sell out' very quickly - Test Track always seems to run out of Fastpasses
Also, try riding during parades. The lines are sometimes shorter then.

You may be able to get a polystyrene cooler from the supermarket when you have your grocery stop on the way to the resort. They are only a few $$. You can keep this in your room, topped up with ice to keep drinks cool (there are free ice machines available near the rooms at the resorts).
Just leave it behind when you leave.

We never bother. If you get the refillable mugs you can nip and get cold drinks for free from the food courts whenever you like

One of the benefits of staying on-site is you can nip back to the resort at the busiest/hottest part of the day and chill out in the pool for a few hours and then go back to the parks in the evening to catch Wishes, Illuminations, Fantasmic, Spectromagic etc.

Don't follow the crowds at park closing and rush to the resort buses. Hang back, grab an icecream or drink and find a nice seat and watch the crowds go by
You can then exit the parks when all the crowds have gone and the lines for the resort buses have thinned. This is especially nice at Epcot where the atmosphere around the World Showcase is very nice when all the crowds have gone Don't worry about missing the bus back to the resort - Disney will never leave guests stranded at the parks

Thats good to know thought we may have to end up getting taxi home.
Can,t imagine what the crowds will be like. Just a DLP it felt like more people than where at Live 8 concert and took twice as long to get out.

We have just been from 16th July to 30th July. I have written up a few of my trip reports if you want to read what you can do in a day.

The trick in going in July is to be there before the parks open. We got to the parks 30 minutes before opening. Universal and Islands let us straight in but Disney you still have to wait till the official opening time. We managed to do everything we wanted extremely quickly with hardly any lines in the first couple of hours. However, by 11 ish the crowds had grown and lines for water rides were in particular about 60 minutes. When you get to the park pick up a Fast Pass before you go on a ride and then ride it, you can then come back later. There were no problems picking up Fast Passes when arriving in the parks early. The only ride that was running out of Fast Passes quickly was Soarin', I expect next year it will be Mount Everest.

I honestly expected huge lines and unbearable heat and lots of rain. In fact, most of the rides were walk on (when done in the early morning), the heat was lovely and unbelievably we hardly saw any rain, didn't have that daily afternoon rain I was expecting.

The only ride that had a big standby time was Soarin' when we went to Epcot at teatime. It was 110 minutes. We left it to our Epcot day and then just walked on to it because we were there before the park opened, we also Fast Passed it to go on a bit later.

You will have a fantastic time, we go again on 15th July so will probably be there the same time as yourself. The trick is to plan, go to the park on the quieter days and get there before the park opens. If you lie in and get to the parks at 11 am, you will hit a lot bigger lines (30-60 minutes).

could not go at any other time really with the boys schools and work.

We are early risers anyway suppose will only get up later when we stay for the fireworks which will only be once each park.

Have still got our DLP ponchos hoping to find some decent handheld fans
am sure our american cousins will have some superduper ones we can get

Only problem now is wishing our life away to get there

We are in a similar position with the kids doing GCSC and 'A' level exams. We were hoping to go on 1st July but the hotel we wanted was unbelievably already booked up to 15th July.

I am glad you are early risers, you will get so much more from your time there if you get to the parks early. Once we did all the rides we wanted to do we either jumped to another park, shopped or swam.

Whatever you do, don't try and leave the Magic Kingdom directly after the fireworks. It took us an hour and a half to get home, there were massive lines for the resort buses too. Just stay in the park longer (fireworks were at 10 pm and the park shut at 11 pm) or get on the ferry and watch the fireworks from there. It isn't as magical as seeing the fireworks with the castle in the foreground but it is nasty taking ages to get out of the park.

There are plenty of places selling handheld fans which also spray water. They cost about $15.99 in the parks but non park related ones from supermarkets are a lot cheaper. The only trouble with the water ones is they weigh a lot around your neck but they are nice and cooling in the hot heat.

We were a bit dubious about going in July, in the past we have always gone in February which has been lovely but we had a fantastic time. So much so that as soon as we returned we booked up to go again.

I know what you mean by wishing your life away, I am desperately trying not to. It is just nice knowing you have an Orlando holiday to look forward to.

Getting on the ferry sounds good. As far as i know wishes at MK
is exactly the same as DLP (correct me if im wrong)
Are there two parades a day in the parks.

Its weird i want to find out loads of stuff but want it to be a suprise too

The ferry is a lovely way to view the castle as you leave the car park and a good way to beat the crowds before the fireworks.

I don't know about Wishes being the same as DLP.

We didn't bother with the parades when we were there. There was definitely one normal parade and two spectromagic ones.

The more you plan the better your holiday (plus it helps to pass the time before you go).

I am just agreaaing with everyone else really,

The trick in high season is to get as many early mornings in as possible. Get to the park 1/2 before official opening. At Universal they let you in as soon as there is a queue, at Disney you have to wait until the advertised time but the CM will chat to you and keep you all entertained.

My Number 1 tip for you today is... If you ant to see Lights Motors Action car stunt show at MGM get a FP. The best part is because it's a show you can get another FP for another ride straight away! Also about 90% of the seats in the show are FP holders so with only 3 shows a day you would struggle to get in otherwise.

The show is exactly the same as DLP but when I saw it at MGM Herbie was there for 5 mins aswell!

Yes Herbie was there in 2004 when i went for the day
but not this year which seemed strange with the film coming out.
Didnt realiise that was FP it was one of my boys favourite things
will def do that again
