Countdown Cruisers - Ringing in the New Year on the Disney Wonder - 12/31/2013

Would like to join the Fish Extenders Group. Kids only:
DS (15), DS (12) and DD(7)

My BIL is also now a part of our group in 3 total cabins.

Alright...listen up (errr....read up) - Fish Extender Members....Let's hear from you.....

1. How do you want to divide us? Or do you want to divide us at any point? I've seen groups divided by members...at x number of people, we add a second group, etc....and I've seen it done by rooms....at a certain number of people, we start a second group, etc.

2. How about a deadline? I would say the latest of mid November? I'm ok with a little earlier if you guys want?

Let's hear some feedback and start getting this Fish Extender group organized! :-)

FYI...we are now at at least 15 rooms...

Please check your name on the fish extender list (post 1)...If you have more than one room, let me know and how it's divided so we can have an accurate count!!!

I booked our hotel today! Used Hilton Honors points and booked Galveston Island Hilton Resort on Seawall Blvd.

Yeah!!!! That makes it seem a little more real. :)

My vote is to cap the first group at 20 cabins and one gift per person participating in each cabin.

I'm ok with 20 cabins if everyone else is, but I think people should be able to choose whether to do family gifts or individual gifts. 20 rooms if 4 people per room could end up being 80 gifts...that's a lot to require. Anyone else have any opinions?

On another note, just booked our plans for Cozumel...booked the Nachi Cocom Beach Club (http://www.cozumelnachicocom.com/).

They limit to 100 people so it isn't crowded. It has beach, pool, and hot tub (and other activities you can pay more for such as snorkeling, jet skis, massages). Complimentary food and drinks. $55 for myself and $35 for daughter. Friend recommended. Great reviews on Tripadviser.

Required $18 deposit. Nonrefundable except for if ship doesn't port there for some reason.

$16 each way to beach and back to port.

This is my first time to plan an excursion that isn't Disney sponsored.

We love to swim and love the beach (and I don't like the crowds of the pools on ship) so this seemed like a good deal to me - especially considering it's complimentary food and drink - alcoholic and not)

If anyone has any helpful tips for the cruise, please let us know and I'll add to the first post.

I have a link to our FB group, a note on parking, and excursion notes made throughout the thread....

Hi all, my vote would be the same...I'm happy to participate in a 20 cabin FE, but I would like the option of doing a family gift. Just my thoughts having never done an FE before :)

That being said, if the group decides to do individual gifts, please only include my kids - DD14 and DS10. There is no reason for everyone to spend money on gifts for me and hubby.

Ok...another vote for 20...anyone think less? I wouldn't think any more probably.....

I'm good with the per family option as well. The thought of making possibly 80 gifts and transporting them was a little daunting I must admit :crazy2:

ksloan - Nachi Cocum is nice!! DD and I went there last time we were in Cozumel and enjoyed ourselves immensely, until the deluge hit:p It started raining about 1:00pm and was raining so hard you could not see the edge of the water from the dining palapa (which is where everybody ran to take cover!) I felt really bad for several others from our cruise who had just arrived around noon! We ended up taking a taxi back to the dock around 2:00 and it continued to rain the entire time until sailaway (and then through dinner as well!!)

I have a dining question: would like to make reservations for Palo one night. How do you know what your dining rotation is??? Do I assume that we will be in the 3 different restaurants for 3 of the 4 nights? And is it always the 4th night that is a repeat night on 4 night cruises???

So glad to keep hearing positive reviews of Nachi Cocum. I haven't ever attempted an excursion that wasn't through Disney, but this looked really good. I"m just hoping it's not too cold for us. I mean, I know it won't be cold, but we are used to warm weather so it doesn't take as much for it to be cold to us.

You do not necessarily get your 4th night as repeat and I've never known until we got there. Maybe there's a way to find out by calling when it gets close?

We did a 4 night on the Magic in February. You don't get a repeat of any menu, even though you will visit one of the MDRs twice. We had the pirate night menu plus the 3 MDR rotation menus. I am trying to remember if we had the Captains Gala menu one night, but I don't think we did. We skipped Palo dinner on the 4 night and did brunch instead just because we didn't have any clue what the rotation would be.

I just realized that probably doesn't help any!! LOL :-). Seeing as we will have a special NYE menu plus pirate night (I think, does anyone know if we skip pirate night because of NYE?) it will be tough to know what night to miss for Palo.

Someone called DCL and was told that we would have both. You can look back through the threads to see who. I also copy and pasted it into the first tread so you can look there as well and see what each night it and anything else that someone has said.

Thanks - my memory isn't good enough to have remembered that! ;)

still figuring out how to post/quote. So I updated my info for the cabins.
Just curious- Is everyone thinking of doing 1 cabin gift? (We we're thinking of individul gifts, but can do a cabin gift if that's what everyone else is doing.)

Having never participated in an FE before, we were thinking of doing one gift from our family to yours :)

We usually do a "family" gift or 2 for the adults and individual gifts for kids.

My father-in-law signed his wife and our two daughters up for the NYE Wonder cruise out of Galveston while we were on the Magic in the Mediterranean two weeks ago. My husband and I live in Waco, so my MIL will fly in and we'll drive them down to Galveston. Unfortunately, dh and I will not be joining in, but the girls want to join in the FE. Since I'm the DISboards person in the family, I thought I'd get all the info and get their gifts ready. So please sign up:

My MIL Norene
DD16 Stephanie
DD13 Rachel

I will add the room number later when I get it.

This will be the girls' 5th Disney cruise (Norene has more than 5 on Disney and lots more on other cruiselines. We are lucky to have inlaws who love to cruise and love to take us along.)

Our cruise this month was a lot of fun to come by the room and find gifts. We got a lot of little packages of candies (one of our FE people was from Ireland and gave us all sorts of Irish candy). It was our first time to do an FE exchange and the girls asked why we had never signed up before!

I am also in favor of limiting the group size to 20 cabins.

So, I'll be sort of lurking as my daughters' proxy. BTW, my 13 year old loves the Edge and will be there every minute she can. The 16 year old does not like going to Vibe -- too shy -- and can't wait until she's old enough for the spa.

Hi there,
Will Rachel be 13 or 14 when we cruise? My daughter, Jamie, will just have turned 14 (she begins 9th grade next week) and isn't sure if she is better suited for Edge or Vibe. Personally, I think being the oldest in Edge is better than being with much older teenagers, but that's a mom's opinion.
