Countdown calendar tips?

I would like to make my 7yo a countdown calendar. Our trip is only 2 weeks and 2 days away. I collected the Mickey head paint chips from Home Depot and bought a bunch of Disney stickers. I also have poster board. I plan on velcroing the mickey heads to the calendar, for DS to pull one off every day until our departure.

Would you just make a regular calendar, ending on Nov. 12 (our check-in day)? Or, would you just make 16 blocks, numbered 16-1?

This is the countdown calendar we made for our cruise last fall.

DH made the ship from cardboard and painted it by hand. We were each in charge of making 10 markers. These are mine (made with my Cricut).
