Couldn't get my FOP FP+, now what?

I'm working on figuring out my touring plan for AK. Hoping for an early FP and then go again at closing. TP's estimates have the line wait at 100 minutes right before closing on 12/2 (Sunday, CL 3) We will just see how much we loved it and how we are feeling at the end of the day if we want to wait that long.

in my day there weren’t fastpasses! I remember waiting 2 hours in 90 degree heat to ride Thunder Mountain on July 4, 1995! And we didn’t have iphones! We couldn’t go online while we were in line! Do you know what we did? We talked to our family! And we loved it! Because we were at Disneyworld!

And the walk was uphill! Both ways! And we liked it!

I think it was snowing that day!

I appreciate the sentiment of what you are saying. It has merit and you may be right. But times have changed. Crowd levels have changed. While I'm not a fan of having to be on my phone to find fast passes, I do it because I want to cover quite a few rides on my very expensive vacation. I love being with my family without a phone but I also don't want to miss certain attractions that are incredibly popular.

This is the dis equivalent of "get off my lawn." I, honestly, don't appreciate it. I don't need a lecture on enjoying waiting in line. This is the system we are working within *now* and that makes the old system obsolete, just like this comment. But, by all means, keep telling me about olden times. :charac2:

I think the PP was probably trying to be facetious and wasn't lecturing. At any rate, as others have mentioned, keep trying for the Fastpass. I have had good luck with same day FP+, even for FoP, although it does take a lot of refreshing sometimes.

Waiting in line really isn’t obsolete.

We often waste so much time and energy avoiding waiting in line that it would just be so much simpler and easier just to do it.

I always read of people touting rope drop...getting to the park hours early. Well, you’re still waiting, right?

I’m going into this next trip not fearing “the line”. I spent so much time chasing fastpasses the last 2 trips it just left me exhausted, when I could have just waited in a line where I was and saved so much time (and my poor feet).

We couldn't get FPs for POP either. We had an 8:05am ADR at Tusker House. Once we left Tusker House, right around 9am - maybe a few minutes after - albeit a little later than we wanted, we headed straight for FOP. A sarcastic "thank you" by the way, to the CM in Tusker House who told us we can take the back path towards Pandora only to see they don't allow you in that way at that time, so we had to double-back and go through the main entrance to Pandora and end up in the exact same spot we were at the connection between Pandora and Africa where the end of the FOP line was. A CM had a sign saying it was a 120 minute wait. It ended up being only slightly more than an hour.

We just got back and since we stayed offsite, we couldn't get FP+ for FOP. We had 2 AK days. The first day we arrived about an hour before the 9AM opening. We stayed to the left and were able to be the first ones though the left turnstiles when it stopped being for early dining reservations. Waited at the bridge. Waited at the ridge entrance. We were off the ride by 9:15. The wait was hot, but not too bad.

I refreshed on and off after I had used my initial 3 FP+ and was able to snag FOP later in the afternoon.

We skipped rope drop the 2nd day and again were able to get FOP by refreshing in the afternoon. Both times, I wasn't refreshing constantly, just when we were in line or taking a break.

This .. Going at Rope Drop is still "waiting" for at least 60-90 minutes, as well as sacrificing sleep, waiting in a crowd (instead of a queue) for a lot of the time, etc. etc.
Granted it isn't cutting into park time, but there isn't much to do at AK anyway.

The best strategy is go where the people aren't .. without having tried it myself, I would think the late at night ride would be the best. The park will simply be less crowded at night (and people watching the night shows or just heading out for the day).

What stinks is the disappointment that people get when being online at the crack of 7 am at their 60 days and STILL not able to get a FP (because of the "length of stay" bonus). WHEN I choose to go to AK during my trip (first day or 10th day) shouldn't matter.

I have my 60 days coming up soon and I am trying to go to AK on my 3rd day of my trip. As much as I would love to schedule it for day 4 or 5 or 6, I just can't based on other plans and reservations. I have my doubts of the availability of FOP, but hopeful.

Keep refreshing the app non stop.... I got last minute FOP FP+ the afternoon before my scheduled visit to AK in July. Actually went on it 3x that day because I was able to pull two additional FP+'s after using my first FP+.

Going to AK at the end of September again, and just last week was able to secure a FOP FP+ for my visit after striking out on my 60 day window opening).. I refreshed multiple times an hour while I had free time.

Same Day FP for FoP - admit that I don't try that often but still got 1 for 2 of past 3 trips (SDD most recent Aug trip). This is still the toughest FP to get same day and wouldn't expect it to happen.

60 day FP picking - Not for everyone, but we pick our park days after prioritizing FoP. In that if we have 8 park days, we work around what days we're able to get FoP after both of us trying at 60 days from different days (working backwards) simultaneously. On the days we couldn't get FoP, we went for SDD, and filled the neither days with 7DMT. Think we initially had 3 FoPs, 2 SDD, 2 7DMT, 1 TSM.

Change in AK hours - We've been going to WDW late Aug/early Sept nearly every yr and expect a change in hrs to be announced. I think it was about 30 days out, several FPs for FoP were added when the park was to be open from 830pm to 1030pm. We paid attn and added a 9am FoP for day 1, and moved up an afternoon FoP to 905am (ended up with 4 FoPs for our 8 days last mo.).

Rope Drop - We still RD ea. of the 4 days we went to AK to pair with our FPs and go back to back. We target about 90-75 min before park opens. There was a lot of running... but I was able to speed walk and still be 1st or close to 1st at rope. Most days, RD guests began walking 15 min before park open (through taps 45 min before). But there was a day they let us walk 30 min before, and we got off FoP, even with the length of the queue and ride and 7 minutes of videos, and still had to wait for the grace period on our 9am FP to go on it a 2nd time at 8:54. We were surprised that the bridge to AK has been closed off both ways for us. Varied, but we saw 180 min at 930am posted and 60 min at 9am (sometimes tempting for a 3rd time at 1 hr). The benefit of waiting, say 60 min total at RD (arriving 745am for a 9am open and getting on at 845am) vs. waiting only 45 min for Last Ride is that everyone is behind you for every subsequent ride and your aggregate wait time for the other rides are reduced. But there's an argument for RD at a different park and coming back to AK in the evening... or sleeping more.

Last Ride - I've talked to guests who spent 2 hrs and FoP CMs stating it's been about 45min and + as a typical. Few ppl went on with a 20 min wait. we've only tried Last Ride once. It was posted at over an hr and it was actually 45min. We only tried this to see Pandora at night, and the entire queue vs. the shorter RD/FP queue. This is something we'd do, but we tend to park hop from AK in the evenings to MK or HS and our 30-40 FoPs from the past 3 trips have all been RD and FP.

When RD or Last Ride not an option - 1-5pm is supposedly a low period between the am rush of most guests wanting to go on FoP 1st and evening park hoppers. 90-120min (90 and under the target) is supposed to be common at this time vs. the 180 min I see at 930-1030am.

Sundays - EMH is on Sat & Mon at AK, making Sundays potentially a less busy day to visit AK.

I just checked the Touring Plan stats from yesterday (Labor Day). The actual reported wait was 29 minutes about a half hour before closing time.

29 min. would be really awesome for FoP at the end of the night. Did talk to 2 people who experienced 20 min waits, but many experienced more. We'd definitely try last ride FoP more, but a combination of things always seems to steer us away from finishing at AK... AK doesn't stay open as long and we always try to maximize park time. We're not fans of RoL, and prefer to see HEA or any of the other finishing shows, even Illuminations. Our FPs for FoP, if they were past late afternoon (always am or early afternoon for us), we'd consider staying in the evening. The 75min we might wait at RD for FoP, even being 1st on, we typically wait 60-75 anyhow for the other parks... to try to take advantage of RD AND get Last Rides. Probably counter productive to not sleep on vacation, but that's what we do.

We were able to get same-day FPs for FOP two different days on our recent December trip. Just had to be patient and look throughout the day.

This morning I got two FoP for this Saturday. I couldn’t get anything at my 60 day mark so I decided to just try in earnest a few days before the trip. Took just 15 minutes of refreshing this morning to get. Don’t give up!

We did the same thing in my day, right after walking up a tall hill in the snow.

My 60 day mark was Sunday. We are going Thursday - Tuesday. There was nothing for the first 3 days but plenty day 4 and 5. When I signed back in the next day, there was 1 time left for the 4th and about 6 or 7 times left for the 5th day. Today, they were gone. Sometimes people grab multiples until they work out their plans. It would be nice if there were FP reservation threads like there are dining ones informing when dropping fps.

I know this isn’t the norm but this happened to me this morning.
I wasn’t able to secure FoP Fastpasses for my family at our booking window and I tried numerous times a day to see if it opened up and got nothing.
I kept hitting refresh on the MDE app while on the bus from the Boardwalk this morning. It took a while but 9:10 am FoP Fastpasses popped up for our party of 3!
So we were able to walk over to Pandora slowly, get Photopass photos and ride Na’vi River Journey even before our FoP Fastpass window started!

Hi. With everyone saying they open the park earlier for AK, am I just to guess this will happen next week too? We do have FoP FP but I would like to be at park for opening, which for my AK day is 9:00 am. Should I count on the full park opening by 8:15 am?

Thank you.
For a 9am opening they will start letting people in the park around 815 ish. They will hold you back inside the park till About 8:30ish. That’s when they open the 2 Pandora rides, but not sure about when other rides start. I always head to FoP right away, so I have no idea.

We went to AK last year for EMH.
We had an Uber drop us off at the park just after 7am, they opened the gates at 7:20 & walked us to Pandora, where they split the crowd into those going to Navi RJ & those going to FOP.
We managed to do to FOP & NRJ by 8:45 & were walking out of Pandora when the masses were walking in at 9am.
We also managed to snag a couple of fast passes for FOP & NRJ as well later in our trip.
