Couldn't cancel VWL XMAS today-30 days out.

Kind of messed up-tried to cancel Dec 24-29 at VWL but I guess I needed to call Wednesday since they were not open for Thanksgiving (31 days). I tried to cancel just the first day and I guess even day by day ressies are tied together so I couldn't even do that. Now to decide to try to use them this summers trip or throw them on the rent board-cripes. Sorry if someone was waiting for that week. :(

It is 31 days from the check in day so the last day of your reservation would have been exactly the same answer as the first. You could still cancel and have the points in a holding account if you didn't already.

Thanks Dean, I guess I hoped to catch a break with MS closed on 31 days out.

I just had my first trip ever this summer to VWL, and it was gorgeous. I bet with the XMAS decorations, you won't have a problem renting if that's what you decide.

Just had to say how nice VWL is....

I'm sorry jade1. I hope you are able to work things out. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. :wizard:

Did you cancel them? Our experience is to cancel and then try to use them before the end of your use year. Or put a week out there to rent which gives you more time to deal with it. Granted, you could probably get a good price for Christmas on renting them but I know I wouldn't want to deal with it so close to the Holidays. We've had some nice surprise trips just because we canceled too late and had points in holding. Our real treat was 4th of July this past summer! Good luck!

Not yet, my DSIL has banked VWL points (we are going with them) and I need to see how many she has to use in June and if we still need more then I will cancel and use mine-if she has too many then I will have to rent them I guess. Problems problems.

So sorry this has happened to you. This is a great resort for Christmas. There were many a while back trying to get it for Christmas. You might be able to rent it.

Why did you wait until the last minute like that? Were you still contemplating going? Seems selfish to wait that long if you knew well in advance.

Not a flame, just wondering? Seems like I've never cancelled any trip on short notice. Would take an emergency to do that. You'd have airfare normally as well to cancel.

Did you book in your name with the hope of renting???

I'm not sure if your tongue is in your cheek for this post, but for what it's worth, I remember the first time I read Jade1's post and she said
Sorry if someone was waiting for that week.
And I thought of posting that I thought it was nice that she even felt bad about it. Most people wouldn't give it a second thought about tying up a valued TS time.

Perhaps it was an emergency. There is more to her story than you realize and she feels awful about it as well as awful about the fact that someone will not be able to possibly be able to get these points on a waitlist. Sure sounded like a flame to me. :confused3

No its definately my fault. I thought it was 30 days out you could cancel and should not have waited, DSIL and family was not going with us this XMAS (just a studio for us). Its kind of complicated-we had a Aug 06 trip they could not go on because of the chemo etc so we re scheduled an even bigger group for next June. Then we watched airfare which has been a total rip off all fall, (we do have AP so that would have helped). Then last week we offered to have all 50 family members on that side for XMAS at our house on Saturday Dec 30 so it would be even harder to get home Friday night and then that large of a party the next day which was the final reason to cancel-plus we felt guilty about going anyway. The trip was planned day by day at 11 months (partly because of AP) well before any of these events. Plus part of the reason for the post was to educate any other members as dumb as I am that may be cancelling in the future (or that week even).

The really good news is she is done with all the treatments and everything looks good and we (15 of us) are Reserving 2 2BR's at VWL day by day at 11 months for 2008 (actaully NY week since its leap year there will no school that week)-2 short years. :cool1: Promise not to take anyones ressie for next year-we are banking ahead of time for a change.

Don't worry about "taking" anyone's ressie. You have and had every right to do what you are doing. Have a great holiday, and I hope you can use the holding points down the road.

I hope you get to use your points, and I'm glad to hear that things are going well with your DSIL. Things happen sometimes and plans have to change, that's just the way it is. Have a wonderful holiday with your family!

Anyone who has to post a post with "chemo" in it has my prayers. That next trip sounds like a great one. The "50 for dinner" phrase, also has me in a tizzy!

Best wishes!

Bobbi :grouphug:

Thanks all. Yea 50 for dinner, not even kidding. I will try to post a pic of the house-did a mini Clark Griswald job this weekend stapling the lights to the shingles since it was so nice out. Also just offered the resisie to a friend at work that has never been there and has a 9 yo son. He is not rolling in cash but thought he could swing the gas to drive and a couple park tickets. Just needs the mom's approval which isn't for sure.

Oh yea, I did cancel a 1BR for NYE at VWL-it was over 30 days yet. Was planning to splurge that night and finally do MK for NYE and hop on the boat back.

Hopefully it made someones day (it was last Friday).

Sorry about the points and missing the trip. I really wasn't flaming just wanted to know what the circumstances were that you would miss the 30 day cancellation window.

Better luck next time.

Its no sweat, I would not reserve XMAS week with the intention of renting it for a huge profit. I am now hoping my buddy can go-it would be so fun for him and his son. I told him about the crowds but he said they get up early which would help a lot.

Perhaps it will make you feel better to know that that would likely have not been a very fun plan unless you were willing to be VERY, VERY patient. Those requiring boats to return to their resorts had to wait as much as 2-3 hours last NYE at MK. They put an extra 150 buses on to handle the returning crowds to the resorts as I understood it and the buses were very, very efficient (once we got out the front gate at MK, it was only 15 minutes before we were in our beds at OKW--even with a line for the bus). Now that VWL has bus service to MK, you might have been OK. The people at the monorail resorts were really stuck unless they wanted to walk.
