Could you give up the DIS for Lent?

Our priest says that Lent is not Jesus' diet plan so we shouldn't give up sweets, beer, chips, etc.... for Lent. So I was thinking that a real sacrifice might be going 40 days without the DIS. :surfweb: I'm not sure I could do it.

No way! I am on the DIS a dozen times a day. Even with our next trip almost 2 years away, I still have to read all about the crowds, rehabs, new stuff, etc.

No I could not.

I really do not think Jesus want us to suffer or give up anything that makes us happy if it does not hurt anyone else. I think you can replace it by doing extra good things for Jesus's children. It can be as simple as a kind word or phone call to a shut in. Give of your time if you need to do more by visting the sick or a nursing home.

I think I should, and I know DH would be thrilled!

But, I do have TGM, and our trip isn't until 5/3/06, so I would still have time to hop back on before we go!

All of our ADR's are made......................I think I know which parks, which days..............WHY NOT??!?!?!?

I couldn't! I prefer to do things during Lent, rather than giving up. I like to do random acts of kindess, things like that.

I would love to know whether I could give up the DIS. Lord knows I have tried many times over the years (hush Dan and WillyJ!).
My denomination doesn't observe Lent. I have personally observed it a few times and I was amazed at what an impact it had in my life. Definitely helped me focus on God.

No, I couldn't! I once gave up all foods with sugar, that was EXTREMELY hard, but no way I could give up the DIS! :teeth:

My sister gave up the internet all together for Lent a few years back - her freshman year at college 4 hours away. Well, she didn't have a cell phone and she didn't have an answering machine on her dorm phone so we kept in contact with her, mainly, by email.

She didn't tell my parents that she was giving up the internet so when she didn't respond to emails nor answer the phone for over a week straight, my mom was ready to jump in the car and drive down there to find her body!! She got a very, um, nice talking to after that ordeal when she finally was home to answer the phone. They weren't mad about the giving up the net but just that she didn't warn anyone!

In answer to your question, yes, I could give up this Dis but would have a hard time giving up the net altogether. Believe it or not, I'm more addicted to a couple of other boards =)

I'm the same way. I'd rather do positive things than to give things up. The focus stays the same.

Lent isn't always about suffering and giving up...sometimes it's about doing more to improve your life in a spiritual sense like Missy1961 said. I'm only a 4 1/2 year old Catholic so the first year I gave up cursing...$0.25 each time I cursed...gave it all to the offering at Easter...the church did well...lol The last couple of years I've tried to do good things instead...the year before last I worked on improving prayer in my life. I made a point to find a quiet time that I could pray the Rosary everyday. Last year, I just gave of myself to others...this wasn't planned though, but it worked out nicely. My dad was very ill when Lent began and one of my sisters, who was going through a nasty divorce began to have some serious emotional and mental problems as a result...I was their caregivers, as there was no one else. I just did all I could to help them get through the rough times...in a way it did mean giving up something I dearly loved...I wasn't able to spend as much time with my husband and son, nor was I able to just enjoy my life as they were the primary focus for several months, but I know that what I was doing was what I needed to be doing...I love my family including the extended parts and well, it was just the right thing for me to do.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing for Lent this year...I'm not sure if I could give up the DIS though...probably could since the next month or so is gonna be pretty busy...we'll see.

You wouldn't miss us?

Seriously, it would probably do me good not to spend as much time on the net, but I really look up to someone who is actually able to do it.

Not a chance. I am going to WDW from April 6-13, maybe the few days when I come back. :sunny:

No, I couldn't do that. I am really grumpy when I give something up. My family doesn't like me so instead I volunteer for several church related things and I feel like I'm doing something much more worthwhile then being grumpy!

I gave it up (on and off) in January when my internet wasn't working!! I'm very cranky without my DIS!! :teeth:
