we want to get our DS and DDIL a freezer

mennads had one in lst sundays paper written as

reg price 149.00
sale price 129.00
11% rebate -14.19
final price 114.81
________________
this make it look like when you send in for the rebate it will be for 14.19

not quite right you get a basically a coupon for 14.19 to come back and spend even more money

by them saying "final price" it makes it looks like thats what youll be paying
any thoughts

I think the point is that the $14.19 is not a cash/check rebate that you can spend elsewhere. It's a coupon of sorts that can only be spent at Menards, unlike a true rebate where a check arrives in the mail.

It's basically the same as Target offered a $10 gift card with a purchase. You have to use it at the same store, but it is still a savings. If you don't shop at Menard's regularly, maybe you can just find someone else to gift it to.

No its just you get a rebate back in the mail for 14.19 I would not of thought the whole thing would cost 14.19...

And Yes, agree that the ad is clear that the rebate is in the form of a merchandise credit. So no false advertising at all.

It might be more of a case of reading into the ad the wrong way.

My friend and her husband do the rebates a lot. Their rebates are more or less gift certificate/gift card for Menards. You get a rebate card in the mail (after sending off for it) and then when you check out at the register you hand the rebate card in and then your total is reduced.

The '-14.19' doesn't in any way reflect the price of the item it just reflects how much back in value your rebate will be...meaning the rebate once you send off for it and get it back will be for $14.19 which then can be used in-store.

Your actual price you pay at the store would be $129.00.

Here's just a pic from Mendard's website. I typed in 'freezer':

If you ever do any shopping at CVS then you'll notice the advertisement and how they calculate the price is similar-ish to Menards though I believe CVS uses the wording "so it's like paying..." or something like that on their ads.

as someone who is ambiguous . . I read it as final price $114.81

that is after the 11% = $14.19 rebate

reg price 149.00
sale price 129.00
11% rebate -14.19
final price 114.81

I use Menards rebates all the time. You mail them in and get store credit. I am remodeling a house so I use them a lot.

the rebates at Menards when used right can be AWESOME. If there is anything we need that has a rebate we usually get it at menards (we don't have a lot of shopping selection in our are so often time these are the best deal anyways) we then use the rebates to buy toilet paper, laundry soap and other cleaning supplies. Its very helpful in our budget!

And you can use your rebate, when they are running the 11% rebate, and get more $$$ back to use next time. I am not sure if it's the same everywhere, but when we pay with our rebate check, we don't pay sales tax on that portion of the new purchase. I have never really understood why, but I don't complain. We shop at Menards a lot :-).

I know others have already expressed that this is a common practice/phrasing, but I'm just wondering which part of the bolded you were having an issue with. It seems like you have three parts:

1. That the rebate would be that amount ($14.19). Do you not like that it's 11% off the sale price, not 11% off the regular price?

2. That the rebate is only good at that store and not cash. I can understand that because most rebates are cash, but it does seem that this is stated clearly in the advertisement.

3. Saying "final price" (the price after all discounts and rebates) is the norm. Yes, you will pay $129 at the store, but when everything is said and done the net total price will be $114.81 (plus tax)

I am not familiar with this store and I don't know if the rebate terms were spelled out elsewhere in the ad. I think the OP's issue is that the final price of $114.81 can only be had if you actually spend the $14.19 rebate on something else in the store. If you don't spend the store credit, your final price is the $129. To me, even if it is in the fine print, it would have been clearer if they said "11% back in store credit" rather than use the term rebate. I look at rebate as something I get back in cash or check by sending in the required documents. I can then use that cash anywhere I want or simply save it.

Menards is very clear on their rebates being a merchandise check good only at Menards.

Oh, how I love Menard's. And, their rebates...especially the 11%. Got one yesterday, AAMOF.

We can buy everything there...so it will get used.

I know how mennards rebates or should I say store credit goes. What I don't like is in the ad it says final cost is 114 after 11% rebate. To me it's not right your still paying 129 and you'll get 14 off your next purchase thanks for the replies

It's how advertising works really..and it's not Menards only that does it that way but I get your frustration.
