We have the free dining package with 1 day base tickets.

Our daughter is 7. If I didn't want her to be limited to the child's menus, could I call and have her "upgraded" to a 10 year old? As far as I can tell, the difference in price would be the $11.xx difference in price between a child's 1 day base ticket and an adult 1 day base ticket. We'll be using admission from our last trip -- leftover 10-day non-expiring hoppers -- and saving these one-days tickets.

Is this the first time anybody has posted about considering lying about their kid being older in terms of admission and packages? (Most likely I'd call and say that I don't want my kid to be limited to the child's menus and I'd like to change her age.)

Of course, it isn't the first time somebody wanted to know how to cheat Disney.

Here is a response to one of those threads from a moderator:

Just a reminder folks, advocating or instructing on how to violate Disney policy is a big DIS no no.

There are people reporting that Disney has allowed them to upgrade their under 10 children to adults by purchasing an adult ticket. I'd call and ask to get their official word on it.

She will be helping disney out. She's wanting to pay the difference, not screw disney....geez.

I'm not sure how buying her an adult package (that will cost her more money) would be considered cheating Disney??? :confused3

I agree, just call and ask Disney.

What difference-it's free dining. The only thing they would have to pay for is a bit extra for an adult ticket.

It's not any different than making someone up on your room reservation to get more free dining credits. Disney took care of that one by making everyone be present to check in.

FREE DINING.

The OP is the one who said they were considering lying.

I'm guessing that the word "lying" was a poor choice on the part of the OP. She goes on to say that she would call Disney and explain that she didn't want her child to be limited to the children's menu. The free dining goes with the ticket, and Disney seems very happy to sell the adult ticket as it is.

When she's paying for the extra charge, I don't think it's the same thing as making up people to stay in your room. I'm sure Disney wants as much money as it can get.

JMHO, as I said, call Disney and ask.

I would not!! Just got back from the free dining and the amount of food was unbelievable!!! I traveled w/ my mom who is a really big eater. I had told her about peoples reports on these boards about all the food. She said there will be no leftovers with me, I'm not sharing! that lasted one day :rotfl:

Not only did we split the table service meals... and still were not able to eat the dessert, but we also split counter service meals too! We ended up with all these extra credits so we did 2 breakfast buffets over at Cape May character breakfast and took 10 out of our 12 snack credits home with us!

If your child will eat what you guys have ordered there is MORE than enough food. Hope you have a great trip! :wizard:

If that is the case (calling Disney and explaining) then great. Give it a try. But, I was responding based on the use of the word lying.

I didn't read any cheating into the OP. Seems she wants to pay extra to get her 7yo adult meal choices. What's dishonest about that?

I agree that you may want to leave it as is and share if that works for your family. We went in January and had two rooms - 3 adults in one, 2 in the other. I purchased the dining plan for the 3 adults and we shared every meal between the 5 of us and it worked out very well. (There was one buffet where we just bought an extra 2 portions, but everything else was shared.) So, unless the three of you don't like sharing or are very big eaters, you might be just as well to leave it as-is.

Just remember once she is in the system as an adult you will have to always pay for her as an adult. If you are planning on returning to WDW before she is 10 then she will be entered into the system as an adult now and when she turns 15 they will want to charge you the extra room charge for her since she will be "18".

Huh?

The OP stated that they are going to pay the difference... how is that cheating?

It's "cheating" because they want to pay the difference between a child's park ticket and an adult park ticket for just 1 day, not the difference between child dining and adult dining for their entire trip. Because it's during the free dining promo, it doesn't cost that much to upgrade the 1 day park ticket, but you get a whole lot more food (& variety) with adult dining (on Disney's dime).

I can see where you'd want to upgrade your child to an adult. It seems like a real bargain. I personally would not want to do it, because it really is going around the rules and taking advantage of Disney, especially since you are only buying a 1 day ticket.

Although the children's dining choices are somewhat limited, there is enough adult food to share. There were just a few counter service places where lack of choice was an issue for us, and if you look at the menus ahead of time, you should be ok.

Now, if your 7 year old likes steak and shrimp, you'll have to choose your meals a little more carefully than most!

1) I'm a guy. (Brett can go both ways, but I wanted to clear that up.)
2) My use of the word "lying" was in the second paragraph was an attempt at humor. Seriously, how many people want to lie and say their kid is older and pay more money? (Setting aside the fact that it's only $11.xx and on a few occasions we might order a non-child appetizer or dessert on her credit but still a child's entree.) Oh well.
3) I was interested in downsides....weight gain is certainly one of them, and we were already aware of this from the last trip. Patsal had a good point about her being "18" in Disney's eyes when she's 15, or 10 when she's 8 next year for that matter, and having to pay for adult admission or an extra adult room charge sooner than we'd otherwise need to. Though I'm not sure that would be the case -- I could be bringing my other daughter Jane (not her real name!) next year. And if you don't buy that, just ask George Foreman! (And if you don't think that *last* bit is humor, I'm not sure there's much more I can do!
4) I love these "spirited back-and-forths" over these complicated ethics issues! :joker:

Oh please what is with all this emphasis on cheating disney, the dining is already being offered for free. If she is willing to pay for her child as an adult, then all power to her. I am getting kind of tired of all the moral police officers here on the DIS. I could see if she said she was paying for 2 tickets and then using the dining credits for one person, but this is not the case. And just how do you "Take advantage" of a multi million dollar empire like the walt disney company?? some ppl here make you feel like you are stealing from the poor. :sad2:

What a lovely and helpful post.......

I'm moving this thread to the Dining Plan Forum so that people with more direct experience with the plan can offer the OP their assistance.

And I'm adding a reminder to everyone to please keep the discussion civil and helpful.
