To answer the OP's question in a word........NO
There is a limited interest in Star Wars and science fiction, not enough to carry the whole park.

Nope. I'm sure many girls like Star Wars and Sci-fi, but that's simply not enough to build a theme park based on an arguably boy-oriented franchise or genre.
DHS is probably turning into a Magic Kingdom 2.0: a look into your favorite movies instead of the behind-the-movies type of theme.
Totally disagree. Tons of chicks love Star Wars, myself included. Go to Comic Con and see how many girls love sci fi. If they turned a significant portion of DHS into Star Wars, I bet you'd add a totally new group of travelers to WDW just to check it out. SW fans are rabid!

my brother and i are both teachers, we gave a couple hundred students a pop culture survey
one of the questions was if you could watch one movie what would it be
Harry Potter
Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Star wars did poorly with girls
obvously this isnt scientific and was just for fun but a couple hundred kids ages 12-18 is interesting
im sure when the new movies come out it will be popular
Star Wars is a boy-oriented franchise only because marketing says it is. And they are idiots because I've spent more money that you can imagine on Star Wars merchandise--way more than my husband.
Come to a Star Wars Celebration and you will see that half the attendees are women. And we're not there just to keep our husbands company.
I actually laughed out loud at this. Totally, Star Wars is barely a thing. Just like how that Harry Potter thing is barely working for Universal...
Somebody lives under a rock.Seriously Star Wars could easily support a park and I would expect RnR and ToT to stay.
As for the rest, yes I do think they will re-theme DHS into a Sci-fi/thrill ride park. This will definitely help to keep the US target demographic onsite instead of going to US. If there was a good theme park for the teens then instead of 3 days of Disney and 2 days of US, it would cost a lot less and make much more sense to just stay on site and visit what ever the new name of DHS is.
The options floating around have been to revamp DHS or to build a new park. Converting DHS into a new theme is a lot more cost effective.

Thank you for the kind and polite adult rock comment.
I believe its pretty clear that star wars large but limited following , same as HP, would not support a entire park, as clearly demonstrated in the 2 areas in US, no where near a entire park.
What else they may add........that is another part of the story.

agree
a one IP theme park is a terrible idea and it wouldnt last...you need diversity in a theme park
star wars will be a nice addition but only needs to be a land..doesnt make any sense to do it any other way...if you do a Pixar Place and a Star wars land you get both groups
pretty simple really
You said it better then I did.

Well I believe the third track is going in as we speak I don't see anything to believe it's not. I also am starting to believe part of the DHS expansion will be pixar kiddie rides. Which would be cheap for disney and disney likes that and it's good for families with young children. I just hope that's not all we get.The fact is that Disney wouldn't build a Star Wars park even if their research told them They'd have to beat people away... Because it wouldn't move the "diversity" of product that they need to push. I use that term loosely. The single most important statistic to Disney is how many filled Disney Parks plastic bags they "lose" that day. A single theme is not the way to boost that number. I'm also interested in why "Pixar place" is mentioned all the time of late... Really? That what goin down? Adding a third track to a six year old c ticket isnt exactly the start of a public works project. And unless I'm missing something... They have four parks that feature one - more or less - fairly pedestrian Pixar ride in each. I'll start holding my breath in anticipation of the arrival of the coming Pixar empire.
I also think of it as alienating an entire audience. Star Wars people will come for Star Wars Land or Star Wars weekends...you don't have to theme the entire park to get them to come. But if that is all you offer, you alienate people who don't like or know about Star Wars or don't have children in the right age group.
But what I DO believe is true is that if Disney rebuilt HS centered around only one franchise/IP (Star Wars), it WILL alienate a significant portion of the WDW vacation-goers who have NO interest in that particular franchise (like us). Could my kids someday have an interest in SW? Maybe. But not right now. If that version of HS existed in any of our previous trips with the kids, we likely would not have gone to that park.
