Couch to 5k

I am already exercising pretty regularly - but with no plan.
So, I am going to try this couch to 5k program starting this next week.
I am hoping to do the Family 5K during marathon weekend in January.
And no kidding on the room rates - :scared1:

indimom - That is awesome! I start W5 on Saturday and mow I am a little less intimidated by it. :) I hope I enjoy it as much as you did.

Good Luck. I hope you have a great run as well!!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations! I just finished W5D1 myself. I felt like I finished strong, so I'm happy about that. I feel like I'm good to go with day 2, but I think I might be psyching myself out with day 3. 20 minutes seems like such a long time! I guess I'll just need to concentrate on my pace and try not to go as fast - which is tough sometimes as my dog is in much better shape than I am and he likes to push my pace

We finished W5D2 last night. It was a little tougher than W5D1, our pace was slower again, but we finished with a bit of energy to spare so we were happy. :worship: We're pretty uncertain about the 20 minute run also. We're considering adjusting it to two 10-minute runs with a 3-minute break if it looks like it's going to be too difficult. We figured that was a good compromise between the shorter D2 run and this crazy long D3 run.... We'll see how it goes on Saturday.... :upsidedow Good Luck to you, I hope you make it!!!! Maybe you could wear roller skates and let your dog help by pulling you. :lmao:

Monday night, I had the worst run I've ever had. A stitch in my side early on, cramps and leg pain, I felt like I couldn't catch my breath, and I felt nauseated. I had to walk the last 1-2 minutes of each 5 minute run and had to cool down much faster than normal. I'd had plenty of water, good sleep and good nutrition, so I was really worried about the cause of such a bad run.

Now I've figured out...I was getting sick! I never thought I would be happy about getting sick, but I'm just so relieved that it's not the start of something that will make running a nightmare or completely impossible. Whew! I had to downshift to slower-than-normal walking (walking only) on the treadmill tonight, and hope I'll be recovering from my sinus/respiratory infection soon.

Good luck to all the rest of you!

When you first started to describe how you felt, I thought maybe you had gotten really dehydrated. Glad that wasn't the case, but sorry you are sick.
Get well soon.

:thumbsup2 I did W5D2 today! My first mile I felt like I was laboring a little, but during the last 8 minute run (or jog, in my case) I got a good stride going. Now to not psych myself out for day 3!

:yay: Awesome!!

During the run today, I was trying to calculate my pace per mile in my head. I guess because I was running, I didn't calculate it right and came up with a # much higher than I wanted and was so frustrated. When I got home I realized my mistake and felt much better. I'm still wanting to do better than my 12 minute pace, but I guess I'll take it. I have a problem with comparing my times with others - even if they've been running a while. I need to just focus on doing my personal best and the times will come eventually.

If it makes you feel better, we're running about the same pace. We managed to slip just under 11 minutes during the W5D1 run, but were back up to 12 minutes during the W5D2 run.
Personally, I'm pretty happy with the fact that we are running 8 minutes at a stretch, no matter how "slow". It's hard to believe that just weeks ago, we were huffing and puffing during 90 second runs.
:sad2:
Just have to keep reminding ourselves how far we have come! :thumbsup2

Good Luck! I soooo wish I could make it for one of these. That would be awesome. Maybe next year.

Happy Friday everyone! :upsidedow

It's great to have so many people that are in the same general stage! All of you can really relate to what I'm feeling each day with my runs. You all are a great support system. Thanks so much! :goodvibes

Best of luck GaRain! I really enjoy the program. I'd love to do a family 5k at Disney with a stroller. It seems like a lot of fun. But their races (and the host rooms) are so expensive that I can't do 2 separate trips. Maybe another time. Check in with us and let us know how your program goes. Everyone on the WISH boards has been really nice!:wizard:

Hey - where'd everyone go?

I finished week 5 today :cool1: I had to give myself a talking to about 2 minutes in because I was psyching myself out thinking that there was no way I'd be able to go without stopping. But I did! I even finished with a burst of speed in the last minute. I'm so happy!

How are all of you doing with training?

You can do it!!! I just tried to start off slow like everyone keeps saying. I guess it worked since I had energy at the end. I looked at this as a major hurdle in the program. Now I'm passed it, I have all the confidence that I can finish the program!

Great job for keeping it going girls! I did W9D1 last night. Doing 30 minutes was no problem since I had been doing it all last week, but I did something to my knee. It was hurting after I did 3.1 miles last Thursday and now it hurts even more. I think I might have torn the meniscus. :sad2: So I have an appt next Thursday with an orthopedic. So I'm not sure what I'm ging to do about running. I think I'll try the eliptical until I see the doctor.

Oh no, Colleen! Take it easy. Hopefully you just tweaked something and it will go away. Sending good vibes your way and hoping you feel better soon...:goodvibes

Oh no Colleen! :( I hope it is something minor. Take it easy.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'm hoping it's nothing major. My running shoes give me a lot of support but I still need my orthotics but I think they are pushing my foot too far and maybe changing how my knee takes the force. See what the doc says next week. Meanwhile I think I'll try to do lighter impact stuff for the week. I was really hoping to do a 5K on July 31. See how it goes. I guess I can always register last minute. My big debate is if I should register today for the Princess Half like I planned or wait till next week. :confused3 I really wanted to do it today. It's our anniversary and that was going to be my present to myself. I think I'll just do it anyway. If I can't run it I'll speed walk it! I will do it one way or another. I want that MEDAL!!

Colleen - Did you register??? and Happy Anniversary!!!:lovestruc

Thanks. I didn't register yet. We went out to dinner and got back kinda late. DH thinks I should wait to find out what is wrong with my knee. I think it will be ok. I figure worst case scenario is the meniscus is torn and i have to have it scoped. I would be out of commision for a fee weeks. I think I could do other stuff to stay in shape. The Princess is still 7 months away. I'll probably reg tomorrow, or I guess later today.

I did C25K W5D2 today. :) Thursday is the big test...20 minutes of continuous running. I hope I can do it! :upsidedow

Happy (belated) anniversary!
I haven't registered yet either. I guess I want to finish the C25K. I'm also paranoid that something will happen like I get injured and the registration is non-refundable. I'm just watching the registration website to make sure it doesn't fill up. I have, however, booked a room because I really want to be onsite for the night before the race to make transportation easier.

Great job today! Don't stress about Thursday - you got it! :thumbsup2

W1D1 - Done! I can't really "jog" so I hope I am doing ok with the speed I am going for the brisk walk to jog parts.
I am hoping to do W1D2 this afternoon and will try to speed up a tad.

Hi everyone! Wanted to see if I could join in for the fun/support/encouragement to get through this program. My DH & I just started this morning. I am not a morning person at all, so I was really proud of myself for getting up without any problems & getting out there to do it! I would love to be able to do one of the 5K runs at WDW one day.

W1D1 complete! :woohoo:

Congrats to both of you! When I first started I could barely do the day's run, but now I'm looking at W5D2 tomorrow, and I did a 4.5 mile walk this morning to keep up my fitness. I couldn't have imagined intentionally getting up to go outside and walk in the heat before! I'm planning to do my first 5K on August 6th :)
