Couch to 5k

indimom - I think that is great! I like this program because it let's you work at your own pace.

Great job indimom! You will get there! I haven't run in a week and a half because of my knee and I think I'm starting to have withdrawls! I just want to get back out there.

I have been thinking about you. When do you go to the doctor?

Thanks, you are so sweet. I go tomorrow. Ironically, my knee was feeling better til this afternoon. We were at the beach and DS7 got klobered by a wave so I went running to help him up, then DS4 went missing. Luckily another mom spotted him wandering around and brought him up to the lifeguard stand. He was at the lifeguard down from us. I guess they have them about every 200 yards down the beach. So once I spotted the other guard walking him down I ran to him. Just so relieved he wasn't in the water. But for the last 2 days I've been able to go up the stairs without any pain. Going down still hurts some, but not as bad. I've been icing, stretching and using these pain patches DH got last winter when he had tendonitis in his achilles. I'm anxios to see what the doc says about getting back to running. I haven't run in a week and a half and it's killing me. I want to get back out there. I've come to realize just how much it helps with my stress level. Even DH said the other day, "You need to go run off some steam!" Tomorrow can't get here quick enough. My appt is for noon, but ortho docs are notorious for running way behind schedule. I will let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. We're getting there, slowly and steadily. That's what I'm really loving about this program, the gradual buildup and that I can "see" my improvement. We were out again last night and finished 15-minutes of the 20-minute run. Woo Hoo!!! I'm not sure how far we went this time, we ventured into new territory and didn't have a pedometer on us. I think we slowed our pace a bit, but that was part of the plan, so I'm fine with it. I can't wait until Friday, I hope we can finally finish the 20 minute run! We're improving by leaps and bounds now!

Yikes! :scared1: I'd have been running too. Hopefully you didn't hurt anything and you'll be able to get back on the program soon. :thumbsup2

I'm crossing my fingers too that all goes well at your appointment today!

So the diagnosis is tendonitis. He gave me a patch to try and some exercises to do and said when I can hop on thateg without pain, I can ease back into running. He dais start with 2 miles alternating running a lap walking a lap. Then increase to run 2, walk 1. Hope I can get back to 2 miles so I can back to 3 and finish C25K. Thanks for a the well wishes everyone!

You can do it! Just do what he says and don't try to do too much to fast. You will be back to where you were in no time.

Thanks. I just did the exercises he said to do, and sadly they were a lot harder than I thought they would be. I guess I really do need to do more strengthening.

Just take it slow and I'm sure you'll be back in no time. :thumbsup2 We have plenty of training time until the end of February!

I changed things up yesterday. I have been running for time on the program, but a friend who runs alot said he doesn't really like doing that and suggested my times might be faster if I run for distance. I decided to give it a go and try to run 2.5mi and it was a success! :thumbsup2 My pace improved to 11:14 :) That was also the longest I have ever gone just running. I wanted to stop so many times (especially in the last 1/2 mi), but I was not going to do it. I do plan on taking walk breaks at some point between now and 1/2 marathon training, but don't know at what point to begin incorporating that. Thoughts?

Ugh. I hope you are feeling better real soon and can get back on the program.

We did 17 minutes last night, so we are still working up to that 20 minute run. We made it 1.5 miles in that time. We jogged just a bit more during the 1.5 miles back home, but nothing worth mentioning. Slowly, but surely, we are getting there.
We run again early tomorrow morning and I'm hoping the lower temps will help us pull out the full 20 minute run.
