Costuming CPs?

Did anyone here put costuming as their first choice when interviewed? What types of questions can the interviewer ask for this position?

Entertainment costuming sounds amazing!

pshhh i do not have to deal with bratty little children and their crappy parents, at all when doing my job. sometimes i can't stand guests...ok i am lieing....i can't stand guests. but overall my job is great.

Hey Tyler, Im melissa and i will be joining you in costuming in March. I sent a request by email to be placed in the entertainment part of costumes, but i haven't gotten a reply yet. So how many CP's get to do entertainment costuming? I am a production design major and being in entertainment ***. would help me a lot with my major in the long run, and i have a lot of knowledge about it already to bring to disney with me. I will probably ask you many more questions! ( I also will PM this too you as well)

My daughter got entertainment and general costuming in the MK. She is in class/ orientation this week and has been assigned to parades next week.

For those of you already in Costuming, does it seem like the majority of people working there FT started in the CP?

I graduated college June '08 and am living/working in NYC doing wardrobe and assistant costume design on Broadway and Off-Broadway. I'd love to relocate to Florida and work in the Creative Costuming Department or the Design and Development Department, but have had a hard time finding much info on hiring in costuming other than for the CP. If I didn't get my foot in the door at Disney while in college am I out of luck now?

Thanks!

Costuming CP sounds like an AWESOME job.
I'm hoping to do the fall adv '10 program, and as a theatre major, that would be an amazing opportunity for me! :)

I plan on doing Fall Advantage 2010 as well! I was originally planning to apply for Spring Advantage 2010, but my parents want me to wait after two semesters.

FA does sound better, with all the activities that occur. I'll start a FA 2010 thread once applications for Fall 2009 go up.

What kind of questions were you asked in your interview about costuming?

My DD is applying for Fall CareerStart this week in costuming, so inquiring minds want to know!

Also, you've described Entertainment Costuming very well - it sounds fun! But, if she doesn't get that, what else is there in the Costuming Department? And what do you do?

She is planning to attend college for Fashion Design and would love to be in the sewing/designing department, but I don't think that's possible for CP's?

If you don't get Entertainment Costuming, you are put in General Costuming. You assist the regular CMs with their costumes.

No. CPs do not do sewing/designing.

Can you specify in your interview that you will only accept costuming if it is entertainment costuming? My mom keeps pressuring me to do costuming instead of character attendant (which I was accepted for, but turned down for spring 09). I'm reapplying, and while I don't like the no-guest-interaction aspect, it probably would be more useful for me in the long run?

Hey guys- I Talked to my recruiter about these 2 different costuming areas, and she said you CAN NOT work in entertainment costuming in FL, that is ONLY at Disneyland. BUT, you can shadow someone in that dept. in FL. I was disappointed. So tyler how did you get in it?

That is interesting, as my DD is currently a CP in Entertainment costuming. She started in Jan, and was originally assigned to both General and Entertainment, but from the beginning has been assigned to the Day parade at MK. They just trained her on the new Move It Shake It street show ( now she alternates between the two) She's been working ( not shadowing) a lot of crazy hours and stays VERY busy. She did not request one type of costuming over the other, but during her interview they asked her if she was interested ,since she is a theater major and had experience as a dresser before. BTW: There are lots of other CP's working there!

You can say it. But it won't guarantee anything (you are put where CPs are needed).

Not true. CPs can do Entertainment Costuming at WDW.

I think I got put in costuming because a lot of my interview centered around my theme park live entertainment experience I have onstage and off. I requested I be put in a position that can get me as close to live entertainment I can get. Since I'm doing CareerStart, Character Performer isn't an option to me till I extend.

I am so glad you replied back! This is so nice to know. I wonder why the recruiter told me that. Now I am itching to get into entertainment costuming. the recruiters know your major, correct? I know I did talk about my major with my recruiter as to why I wanted to do costuming to begin with. Would they let you work both ops and entertanment? I would love to do fantasmic! Thank you guys for all your help.

I got the costuming role for my FA09 CP. I emailed my recruiter and requested to be placed w/ entertainment costuming and she emailed me back that she put a note on my file. And obviously there are no guarantees. The one main reason I requested entertainment costuming is b/c it would be something different then what I already do at my current job with uniforms/laundry at a resort. And even if I end up with general costuming I already know a bit about it and sorta know a little of what to expect. I would love to learn something new though and maybe even get my foot in the door to a career I may enjoy. I also have a blog (link is in my sig) and any articles I find regarding Disney costuming, or Disney whatever I'll post them. So far I have two different articles regarding Disney costuming that are a bit out of date but still good none the less. Thanks so much for the information Pendragon!

What exactly do you do specifically in Entertainment Costuming? What is a day in the life of you?

On that note, can someone also explain a day in the life of a general Costumer?

i have been accepted recently to the fall program and i am in costuming! i didn't expect to get it cause i heard that a lot of theater majors asked for it.

what will i be doing? and any suggestions for work or living in Disney in general?

as a costuming CP, what kind of hours do you work? are they all day type of hours? or mostly morning? or night? what's the work load like? does the job keep you busy? (i like a job that keeps me busy) ... im so excited to go that i think of questions to ask at really odd times and then rush back to the computer... so i'll probably post more questions later if you don't mind me doing so...

I am going to be a CP Merchandising Cast Member for Fall Advantage 09, but my first choice was Costuming. I'm still super excited and grateful for this opportunity!

I've read this thread and saw that theater majors usually get Costuming, but what other majors usually get this role? Merchandising doesn't have anything to do with my major (Fine Arts), but I have retail experience (I worked at Kohl's). I'm positive that is why I got Merchandising, so if people get accepted based on previous work experience, which jobs would help you get the Costuming CP? Basically, I'm just asking: what do they look for in Costuming candidates?
