Costumes without MHP Tickets?

I posted this in the MHP thread, but I only got one answer, so I wanted to see what everyone else thinks!

So I didn't buy tickets early enough and now they're sold out for this Friday

I would still love to dress up in Disneyland if I can so I was wondering if I could play in the parks, go back to the hotel to change into a costume, get back to DLR at 4 (when party guests can start arriving) and enjoy the atmosphere all dressed up until they kick us out for MHP. Basically, can non-party guests dress up between the hours of 4-7 or is that not kosher?

Has anyone had experience with this? Another poster said that Disney's official policy is that "Guests of all ages may only wear costumes to the Disneyland Resort Halloween event to which they have valid tickets." But if MHP people are allowed to enter in costume at 4, then shouldn't other guests be allowed to dress up between 4-7? Just curious

Edit: Just called Disney, and they said that it was okay to dress up between the hours of 4-7 without party tickets. Please delete or lock thread, as I don't know how to!

Edit #2: Called Disney 3 times in regards to this issue. They have changed rules slightly in that ALL guests will be allowed to dress up ALL DAY when an MHP party is occuring, not just during MHP.

Just remember that the CM giving you that info might not have ever stepped foot inside a Disney park, and if you are talked to by a CM in person, they are the ones to listen to.

Seems like an interesting loophole, and I truly don't know how they would enforce it or *think* to enforce it, since you could be in the park until the party and only then go to the line in Frontierland to exchange voucher for ticket and get the wristband.

But really, remember that the CMs at the park are the authorities, just in case.

When we were on oct 2nd there they had separate entrances for the party guests than park hopping guests looking to re-enter the park. So it might not fly with the ticket taker that you are not entering through the party line as you are not ticketed for that event but are wearing a costume. I wish you luck as it was fun to be in costume at the park. We entered at 4pm and we given our treat bags and wristbands upon entering.

Here are the rules regarding costumes for the Halloween parties:

Guests may be refused entry into the event unless his or her costume can be modified to meet the above guidelines.
Guests who dress like Disney Characters may not pose for pictures or sign autographs for other Guests.
Guests of all ages may only wear costumes to the Disneyland Resort Halloween event to which they have valid tickets.

In my opinion, it is not worth the risk of wasting the amount of time it takes to go to the hotel to change and more than likely having to return to change out of it. With the separate entrance for Halloween guests, the likelihood of the CM refusing entry is pretty good.

I saw many folks packing in costumes & changing in the restrooms. We did this for DS but only because it was 95 degrees & his costume was Mickey Sorceror- so VERY warm!

I also saw LOTS of costumes on non party days. Mainly kids, which Disney allows, but a few adults too. Not sure what happened to them- if they were ever asked to leave etc.

DH and DS were mostly in costume when they entered just before 4 to get to Pirate's League (appt at 4). Since it wasn't quite 4 they couldn't use their party tickets, and just used their APs.

I was following, having needed to do other things that slowed me down, and if I hadn't talked to a not-so-bright CM, I could have easily gone in a non-party line and used my AP. They have that special line in Frontierland specifically for people who entered using a ticket or AP, so they don't have to go back out the gates.


I don't mean to sound like I'm saying "yes go break the rules" (I'm not a rule breaker!), but this IS a weird spot where it could actually work, and there would be no solid reason for a CM to know that they don't have party tickets.


Now, if your costumes are pirates, you're golden. Since they have the Pirates League all throughout Halloweentime this year, and since the PL allows adults, and since you get face makeup, bandana, etc, that sort of is a costume in and of itself, and you can do it outside of party times.

It will be very busy at Disneyland on a Party day so I would enjoy the atmosphere without being in costumes so you get more time in the Park!

As others have said, the technical answer is probably "no" you cannot wear a costume in the park unless you have a valid the MHP ticket. This is the language on the ticket:

Guests of all ages may only wear costumes to the Mickey's Halloween Treat event to which they have valid tickets. During normal Park operating hours, costumes are only permitted for Guests ages nine and younger.

It'll be up to the CM at the ticket gate to let you in wearing a costume or not using a regular ticket. You might get lucky...you might not, so personally, I would go and enjoy seeing everyone else's costume.
