COSTUMES NO MORE FOR ADULTS!

I don't think they will ban backpacks mostly due to all the stuff young families haul in that are necessary. It may be that they limit the size of them and increase the inspection of them. It used to be you couldn't bring any food in and I think they found lots of folks going out and having a picnic at their cars and as competition grew they didn't want anyone leaving the parks. I can see them limiting bringing in any liquids and I would be fine with that.

Kinda hard to limit how many water bottles bring with the extreme heat of Florida. But I can see how a backpack can be more of a security issue then adults wearing a costume at the Halloween Party.

Um, yeah, there's plenty of people that go to MNSSHP at WDW and don't go as Disney characters. There's also plenty of people that recognize their costumes. I go as Troy Polamalu and get plenty of recognition. I must have missed the fine print on the tickets that state you must dress as a Disney character.....

Also, have you NOT heard them play Welcome to the Jungle during the Halloween party. Can you tell me which Disney animated classic that song was written for?

LOTS of people don't dress as Disney characters at the party... Can't tell you how many minions and super heroes and general "Halloween" icons we saw at MNSSHP in October. There was nothing saying you had to dress in a Disney-exclusive costume.

Sorry, that's not what I meant - I meant since the kids didn't seem so into Disney (not picking a Disney character) that they wouldn't miss the party and would be happy at another event/party not Disney related. Of course Disney doesn't limit the costumes just to Disney ones. And I have no idea why the music they play is important to this discussion? Disney has one Halloweenish movie with music, of course they need to expand what they play to develop the Halloween theme.

After reading the entire thread, I just want to say that it seems a lot of folks here really don't get what's happening in the world.

I know so many people look forward to getting dressed up and it really is a shame to think they won't be able to.
It's awful and sad that Disney, our happy place, is getting sucked into this reality too, but better safe than sorry.

No, limiting costumes and toy guns will not necessarily keep everyone safe, but it may help and it may deter people from trying anything. Like with the metal detectors.
It's not always about catching people in the act. It's important to let certain parties know that it if they want to try anything, it will be that much harder for them.
Banning sweatshirts is not an option, obviously. And neither is banning shoes. You do what you can.
(And I'm sure they'll eventually have more specifics on what exactly is considered a costume.)

Also, please keep in mind that we don't know everything that's going on behind the scenes. They probably have more information than we do and I'm SURE they've put a lot of thought into these decisions.

We can cry and blame then for taking away some of our magic and they might lose some money on this, but bottom line is, the world is at war and even Disney needs to take that into account.

Just curious how some here would feel if Disney came out and said for security reasons, no more backpacks and no more outside food.

We'd be out then. My daughter has so many weird food allergies that we carry her food to avoid not being able to find something safe. It's the reason we don't visit a lot of theme parks around home (hershey, dorney park) because they won't let us bring her food in.

Sorry, but I don't remember that.

That's what I keep thinking. Grown adults complaining for pages and pages about not being able to wear costumes to a theme park, and we really have no idea why Disney has made these decisions.

Oh my gosh please you guys, get over this! No costumes? Really is that such a huge deal?

Moderators please step in.

This is such a non issue. Really. I mean I cannot believe the stuff I'm reading. Like I'd dress up or care if I could. Whatever!

Whether you personally care or not is your choice. For me, some of the most memorable moments we have had at wdw were from MNSSHP. I was Rapunzel, DH was Flynn, dd (15 months) was pascal. My parents even dressed up as Rapunzel's parents, and I haven't seen them dress up for Halloween in 25 years at least! It was a magical night, and whether you believe it or agree or whatever, dressing up as a family was a huge part of that magic. Our meet with the real rapunzel and Flynn is something I will never forget.

Even Walt said adults are kids just grown up. There's nothing wrong with an adult enjoying dressing up on halloween. The parade and the fireworks are nice, but they weren't the draw for us. YMMV of course.

Disagreeing with a course of action does not mean one does not understand what's happening in the world.

Banning costumes for the adults at the Halloween Party will not make anyone safe. I see no offence with anyone here to speak up and say so.

Giving in to fear is what they want. There are ways for us to enjoy WDW events and still be safe.

I'm sure most people do understand very well.
I was referring to some specific comments by people who sound as though they think there's no way anything bad can or will ever happen at WDW.

It's a little-known fact that Axl Rose is a raving fan of The Jungle Book... and especially Baloo...

I actually don't recall any posts to that effect.

Because they don't dress as a Disney character that means they aren't into Disney? Is that a serious hypothesis? And the music they play at the party is valid. You see, you say that because they don't dress "Disney" that they might not belong there. Well, if you Google the lyrics then you'll see they have just as much a place playing in Adentureland during a Halloween party. You do realize that there are TONS of Halloween songs penned throughout the decades, right? Welcome to the Jungle has nothing to do with Halloween OR Disney World. And for the record, we DO attend other events.

I agree with you to an extent. However, most terror cells will do their research. Metal detectors are great.....for catching your every day goof that's trying to sneak in his handgun or some brass knuckles. Any terrorist worth his weight in any precious metal will not be bringing in any metallic based materials to do his bidding. And the costume thing is a joke. I'm still at a loss on how they came to the conclusion that 14 years of age is where the cutoff will be. Did they poll 1000 jihadists and determine that 14 is when they stop using their youngins to wage war with the infidels?

I'm 100% behind the no costume thing, since it's always been a rule for anyone over 14, it just hasn't been enforced, and I've always been one to groan & roll my eyes when I would see it in the parks. It irked me a little bit the morning of MNSSHP's too, parties start at 4, but hey, guess I'm strict.

Dapper Day outfits have known to cross the line a bit in the past, people have disneybounded to the extreme and included wigs, those I could see being the problem. HOWEVER, regular dapper day, classy outfits aren't costumes & there's no way disney could turn a nice outfit away.

As for mnsshp, a friend still working attractions said it was sent in a leader email saying that it was in fact, included in the rule, but we're 9 months off from that so things might be different.
