I would like some ideas for costumes for a pre teen girl. My DD wants a costume from our local store, its a candy corn witch type, the price is $55. I can not justify paying that price for a costume ( most of them are poorly made and will only be worn about 3 hours). Any ideas? What will your pre teen girl be this year?

My pre-teen is dressing as a pirate. You might check Ebay for used witch costumes.

My 13yo DD was thinking about being a masquerade type person. Use a fancy dress that you already have and just buy the masquerade mask at party city:)

DD16 is going as Belle. We found a blue dress in a similar style at Goodwill. I have to alter it a little but for $3.... My mom is making her a white apron and DD already has a white shirt with a collar.

When one of our DDs was 12, she and a few friends dressed up as babies!

They all wore the soft, one-piece feet-in type jammies, carried a teddy bear, had a pacifier around their neck, painted rosy cheeks, and had a blast!

They also stayed toasty warm, and had nice jammies for the winter!

My princess of a 10 year old DD suprised us and went with a ninja this year!

Bonus is that many of the costumes are just not appropriate for girls and the ninja one is covered head to toe :thumbsup2

So she has a black ninja costume with red sash and some fake plastic sword things.. This from the girl for the last 11 years was various Disney princesses.

My DD almost 11 has been clamoring for a vampire costume to the tune of $60. I come from the make your own costume camp. After searching the web for about a week and talking about how ridiculous the prices are,
she told me she would like to be a zombie-we will cut up dad's old flannel shirt, wear old clothes under it, and put zombie makeup on. I can hairspray leaves into her messed up hair to add to the look. :scared1:

My dd is going as a ladybug and her BFF is going as a bee

My DD 10 really wants to be Alice in Wonderland but NOT the new Alice that is everywhere the original one. I can only find it on line at Disney for $50 too much for this year! Any thoughts on where else I might get one? Also WHY do they not have a girls costume in a XL? Even the $50 one is only a L (10 - 12). DD is not wearing the "teen" costumes (too short and too figure hugging) and the child L is too small. I never enjoy Halloween but I try to play along as long as my kids want to but I will be glad when she is ready to move on!

My DD is going to be a witch this year and I found her costume at Walmart for $14. I noticed that they did have the Candy Corn Witch costume at the Walmarts in our area so I would guess that it would be the same at any Walmart - if there is one near you I'd check it out. Plus, I feel the quality of the costume I got from Walmart for DD is just as good if not better than the costumes at the Halloween Stores.

A fav old stand by is a gypsy. Long gauzy shirt and top. Crazy hair may add bandana and loooots of gawdy bracelets. Actually ends up looking like a pirates WOMAN. LOL:scared1:

We ordered our MNNSHP Alice in Wonderland costumes from this site http://www.buyaliceinwonderlandcostumes.com/ and they came really quickly, and I was happy with the quality. They have this one in a XL childs size and it is less than the Disney costumes. http://www.buyaliceinwonderlandcostumes.com/child-alice-costume.html

Hope that helps! :goodvibes

I got out of it easy this year!! DD asked if she could wear my Little Red Riding Hood costume from a couple of years ago. We put a white tank under it because the top is a little big, but it will work. She looks adorable in it too!!

At my school (I'm a teacher), they did away with dressing for Halloween. Kids and teachers need to dress as a character from a book. This year I am going as "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." I am wearing a raincoat and have an umbrella with different play foods hanging down from it.

My 10 year old daughter and her BFF are going to be a "Best Friend" necklace. They're each going to be half of a heart and wear it like a sandwich board. They decided to wear black jeans with a long-sleeved black t-shirt. And they both want short, neon colored bobbed wigs. Hey - I'll spring the $10 for the wig since the rest is costing me nothing! I was at Costco yesterday and there were GIANT pieces of cardboard from in between the pallets of toilet paper. I took 2, no questions, no problem, 100% free! 1 will be to make the heart and the other will be to make my 8 year old son a DS!

grandinroad.com has the candy corn witch costume on clearance for $25.their stuff is usually pretty good quality, but I have never ordered a costume from them.

Had to laugh! My DD12 is also going as a zombie, but she is going as a zombie Prom Queen. We got a prom style dress at goodwill for $10, and have watched a few Youtube videos to do her make-up. Dress is long enough that she can wear jeans and tennis shoes under it and no one will know. I just need to make her the sash and get her a crown. All together it should run us about $20 for her costume.

Wow lots of creative ideas here! My DD9 is going as a pirate again. I will re-fashion the costume I made for her last year. Works for me! DD6 still wants to be some kind of princessy thing :wizard:
