Costing me less to stay longer

Ok the self-justification train was running FULL steam ahead and not stopping for anything on this one.

With Southwest's recent 3 day sale and $99 fares, it was actually less expensive to fly in a day early, add a one-night stay at a value resort, fly out a day late, and add another one night stay at a value resort night onto my trip in December 2018 than it would be to fly on my originally scheduled days.

My ACTUAL trip is at BLT DEC 3-10, but If I wanted to fly in early on Monday(DEC 3rd) morning it would cost me an extra $60-$180 Per person, depending on the airline. Multiply that by 4 people flying (because my 3 year old is an airline 'adult'...) and it is painfully obvious that we just need to spend more nights at Disney :)

The end of the trip was the same situation. I guess Monday is an extremely popular time to leave Orlando, but Tuesday evening isn't. $99 Fare; savings x4= another value night! Room-only reservations at some Value resorts are only about 120-140/night

So thanks to Disney Magical Express and Bell services, we'll fly in late on a Sunday get to (probably) All-star room around Midnight(?), get a full night's sleep, bus to Magic Kingdom and play while my luggage is transferred to BLT. We'll walk over there when we're finished at MK and check in for our 'planned' vacation. Same thing in reverse on the next Monday, and we'll hang out in a park or at Disney Springs before DME to the airport late evening. Changing '7-day' tickets into '8-day' tickets was around $10/ticket (!?)

I'm sure I'll blow out any real savings with food or 'last day depression', but both are better than just handing it to the airlines.

Crazy

It doesn't get any better than that!! Have fun!

Usually by the time that I factor in the cost of paying a dog sitter for another day, dining out for another day, car rental for one more day, hotel for another night and the extra ticket costs (not to mention the additional vacation day away from the office), the lower airfare doesn't look as good. Glad the math worked out for you!

We sort of did the same thing this last trip. To fly out Saturdy afternoon was better price wise, so we stayed at ASMu for the night. Even with the extra night parking at our airport and dinner and breakfast the next day, we came out ahead (it also helps that I was able to use RR points, and not have to pay OOP to AA).

I just added a day and half to our upcoming car rental and it was cheaper than my shorter rental. Changed our flights and got 2200 SWA points back. Funny how that happens.

Certainly not crazy, but your are right because now you have 2 more days that you will be buying food, but you would have to eat at home as well so really how much more are you spending? (Just trying to help with the justification:)). It will probably make your trip feel more relaxed having 2 dedicated days for travel and now your real trip will be full Disney days. I typically try to find a Tuesday flight because for some reason those days are much cheaper - guess vacationers are less likely to travel on a Tuesday and business people will likely travel on a Monday to get business rolling.

At an rate you now have a longer trip which any way you look at it is a benefit.

So I'm pretty sure I have some Hyatt Points laying around too! That first night that we fly in, we'll just spend at the MCO Hyatt (right there in the airport), then wake up and take DME straight to BLT. It will basically save us a late night bus ride, and about $150. I'm still trying to find the 'catch'.
I was going to suggest just staying near the airport that first night to save the late night bus ride. Just remember to have a family bag of essentials packed so you don't have an explosion of all your suitcases open for a quick overnight.

Love the Disney Math! Happy it works in your favor with two extra days at Disney!

Disney Math has a way of extending trips. We took a flight the night before a BCV stay and went to AS Sports. I didn't realize how hard it would be to spend a night in a value after experiencing deluxe/DVC resorts... it didn't help that the resort was flooded with cheerleaders practicing for a competition. But we were still at Disney. We also got a ME ride back to the airport scheduled for 11:35 pm (last one of the evening) and stayed at the hotel in MCO for that last few hours of sleep before the morning flight. I had found a great deal on that MCO hotel that I have not seen since to justify that easy airport night after a long day at the park. Who wants to get up for a 7am flight with the length of time required for ME?
