Has anyone taken a child here? What is the cost for an eye exam? Do you recommend it?

We have taken our children to the same doctor at our Costco for years (into adulthood). She is very good! She found a torn retina in my husbands' exam, years ago, and sent him to a specialist to get it corrected (as well as it could be). She is very thorough with him and the kids, since it is hereditary.

Our eye exam for glasses is $55.00, I think. It is $75.00 for eye glass plus contact exam. We have purchased our children glasses at Costco for years, too. Excellent service and products. They will help with cleaning or adjusting any time we go in to shop. One of my kids broke his glasses, last year, and they helped us get them fixed up so he could wear them while we waited for new glasses to come in.

And you don't have to be a member to use the doctor at Costco.

How far in advance do you generally have to make an appointment? I have been wanting to get my vision checked for several months but never seem to know when I am heading to Costco more than a day or two in advance.

My local Costco takes walk-ins. It just depends on how busy they are; call yours and ask.

I also really like my local Costco eye doc. I am in NJ, and our fees are closer to $89 glasses and $109 contacts. Oh and it takes a bit of time to get an appointment at a time school isn't open. Maybe 2-3 weeks.

Less than that! I wish I could remember, but less than $200 - just call and ask the cost of lenses - frames were in the $75 range for the ones my son liked.

We have used Costco since he was 11 for contacts as the contact exam was cheaper than paying through our Kaiser plan, and buying glasses were way cheaper. I made the mistake of using Kaiser for our first appt before contacts, since no one else in the family needs correction, and purchased from their optical dept. ouch! Even with my "benefit" it was way more than Costco.
