Costco Membership question

I am currently an executive member. Did not use Costco much last year got an Amex rebate check for $4.59. Can I go to customer service and get a refund of the membership cost? I am not sure how this works.

Yes! They will refund you the difference between regular and exec membership, then downgrade you to regular membership. I just joined and I asked.

There are two different things here. The amex rebate and then the Executive Club Rebate. If your Executive Club rebate from Costco does not cover the cost of the diffence between memberships, then they will refund the upgrade cost and put you back to the regular membership.

If you downgrade your membership, AMEX will start charging you an annual fee. You might want to see what that is before you downgrade.

Thanks for clearing up a few things. This is the Amex rebate. I did not know they would charge a fee for non executive member. My wife use to take care of all this stuff.

You can also cancel the AMEX (the one with the annual fee that's linked to your Costco card) and just get an AMEX without an annual fee.

I don't believe you have to pay for the American Express card if you downgrade your membership. It's free with either level.

I have the standard Costco membership and the linked AMEX card and I don't pay a fee for the card. I just got my rebate cert and have to get over there and cash it. I didn't have the card the entire year so I think for a full year I should get about $75 back (mostly gas rebates, plus we will be getting a Costco gas station this summer).
