Costco membership increase

I ask for a membership for Christmas. Easy, fairly inexpensive, and practical gift.

Not a big deal for me especially since their increases are rare. Their year supply of allergy meds costs less than 2 weeks at any other place so my membership is easily paid for with just that savings. I refuse to ever shop at a Walmart so Sams isn't an option for me.

You just reminded me of another reason why I don't mind the increase. Dh used to get these free from the clinic his employer used to provide. That clinic closed late last month and now we will have to buy them. They go on the list for this week as they are on rebate right now. You just can't beat the price. Thanks for the reminder!

I don't know...... this may be my breakup price with Costco...... I will have to figure it out I guess..... I primarily signed up b/c the car rental savings were fantastic.... and paid for the membership every year....now I'm not so sure...... I can get most of the same stuff at Aldi at the same price point (cheaper in some cases) I buy a lot of OG foods, but their prices have been rising steadily too so ....... anyone know if someone can use a costco gift card in store to purchase without a membership?

We have the Executive membership which gives 2% cash back on all purchases (will cost $120 now). I got over $130 for last year, so that covered the membership costs, plus I have the credit card which has decent cash back for gas, dining and travel with no annual fee, so we will be staying.

It is just the 2 of us now, so I do buy limited food, but can freeze the meat, we love the torta rolls, chips, hunks of cheese, frozen foods, and I really like only having to buy things like toilet paper, dishwasher pods, and other cleaning things twice a year! I did notice the women's wool socks I buy every year for me & daughters seem thinner this year.

There is absolutely no comparison between Costco and Aldi.

I get my membership paid through work now, but even before that this wouldn't have stopped me from renewing my membership. I save so much money shopping at Costco on gas alone to make it worth it. Let alone the grocery and household shopping.

This! I love buying things like boxed tissue, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. and knowing that I won't have to buy them again for months, or even a year in the case of the garbage bags!

I''ve been shopping both for many years, and I believe there is. In fact in some cases,Aldi wins in the OG/natural food category and pricing. In some cases, Costco is better.Just one example, organic eggs. Exact same product, exact same pricepoint at Costco and Aldi. That said, I can buy normal sized loaves of Udi's gf bread at Costco, while Aldi's version is tiny in comparison(making tiny sandwiches) Costco has a great sprouted grains bread, but so does Aldi, and I like Aldi's version better. I like the fresh OG carrots better at Costco, and the frozen OG veggies are better at Costco, but Aldi wins in price and value for Quinoa pasta and OG tomatoes in a can. Obviously we all have different preferences, but for me, I will have to do some thinking before I decide. The OG meats are more $$$ at Costco also.

I still think Costco membership is worth it. I have the Executice Visa card and got over $200 cash back last year. That's not even using the card exclusively because I also use AMEX and Discover, depending on what I'm charging. The cash back for gas and travel with Costco card is great in my opinion.

We rarely buy anything at Costco outside of dog medicine, rental cars, and ink refills, and already have $88 built in rewards for 2017. One prescription for our pup pays for the entire year of membership fees it is that much cheaper.

I will agree with the allergy pills, not sure how many are in a bottle but I think it's close to 500 for $4.49. 12 off brand benedryl cost that much elsewhere.

I have the Executive membership and the Costco Visa. Between the two I received almost $550 so the $120 doesn't bother me. And that was mostly from the Exec membership - the Visa was from June or July on and I also use other cards so not all my spending is on the Visa - but definitely gas at 4%!

Regular membership is going up 42 cents a month and the executive is going up 84 cents. Is it really that big of an increase? It hasn't gone up in five years. The money we save is way more that what we pay in membership. There are so many more ways to save, not just in the warehouse. As others have said, my savings from travel alone pay for my membership. We always get great rental car deals. We also got a $950 Costco cash card for booking our cruise through Costco travel.

Well worth it in my opinion.

Mine is $55 so a $5 increase isn't really all that bad. Increases in general suck when you consider $$ is involved but lord the money I save on toilet paper alone...lol.

I'll stand by Costco.. I'd pay $40 more a year if I had to!
I call a few times a week for pizza. I noticed last few times I give my name for the order, yet the ticket has my phone number.. Le'Costco pizza is the best pizza

Yes, you can use a Costco gift card if you're not a member, but a member will have to purchase it for you.

I love how any mention of Costco elicits an 'I love Costco!' thread. Guess what? I love Costco! Their car rentals alone are worth it. And tires. I really, really enjoyed our meal at Blue Bayou that was courtesy of Costco as well!

Is there a place to look how many rewards you have built up with the Executive membership without having to wait until you get your check?

We saved $80 on our car rental at Spring Break in Orlando going through Costco versus directly through Alama. Well worth the cost!

I love costco. I save the membership fees in gas alone. We have a Costco credit card and ended up with $800 cash back at the end of the cycle last time.
