Costco membership increase

We're actually cancelling our Costco membership. We've carried both Sams and Costco memberships for a few years now. Sams is much more convenient (location), has better hours, and every time we shop there are new organic products. We actually decided a few months ago to cancel our membership but we just haven't made it into the club yet. So, as soon as we do we're going in to cancel and get our auto renewal fees back!

I have both Sam's and Costco (paid through my employer), although my preference is still Sam's Club. The store and hours are more convenient for me, and I like their clothing selection better - and I absolutely hate that my Costco does not have self-checkout.

We had self-check out at our 2 local stores for a while. We loved loved it. But towards the end of them having it they would just have people there scanning things and well it irritated me to no end. If i'm in the self-check out with my toilet paper and milk I don't need you to press buttons on the card machine, scan my membership, scan my items, and whatnot. I'm in the self-check out so I can do it myself and quite frankly they were in the way. They took those self-check outs away. We were once told by a worker that our stores were part of a pilot program that lasted a while (like I want to say a few years) but it was decided to remove them.

I can't imagine needing self checkout at Costco. Mine is so quick and efficient. If it is crowded they open every lane. That's part of why I like going. No waiting forever in line like other stores such as Walmart. It would be nice if they are open a little more. I'd like 9 am on weekdays.

They could have every lane open but get there around lunch time or just after 5pm...yeah the lines are busy. It's a good thing though. It means people like to shop there but at the present moment my husband and I are the get just a few items type people and if you get there at the wrong time you'll be waiting in line. FWIW we prefer self-check out nearly every time we shop at places especially Walmart. Also Executive Level members should be able to shop an hour before the store opens to other members.

Oh mine is a nightmare. I'm there twice a week, sometimes just picking up a chicken. A 5-10 minute wait isn't unusual. And often there will be long lines and only three lanes open at 6pm??? Then the line to have your receipt checked is another few minutes because there's only one person at the exit.

The food line is usually what slows me down. My toddler LOVES the pizza. I would love an extra hour to shop with my executive. The receipt checking makes little sense to me. I wish they'd just skip that as they aren't really even looking. Mine usually has 2 on busy days leaving.

So do you have the executive level then? or just the normal membership?

Mine is awful too. So crowded all the time. To their credit they keep many lanes open, but there can still be 5-8 people deep in each lane. Then wait behind 10-15 people to show the receipt and exit.
Last time I was there I told my husband we need to cancel until they open another store in the area to relieve the crowds.
I go to sams too and it has better hours and I love the scan n go app so I skip the checkout part.

What I can't stand at Costco is that almost every time we shop there, We spend $3-500 bucks in one shot! We allowed our membership to expire 18 months back and have not renewed. I have to admit I do miss it though. . .

Yes, I have Executive. I shop a lot at Costco.
Oh ok was confused.

Our stores open at 10am so an hour earlier would be 9am...which as an Executive member you would be allowed to shop at 9am.

Do your stores not open an hour earlier then for you to shop as an Executive member? You mentioned you'd like them to be open earlier like 9am on weekdays. ETA: Reviewing more indepthly into it appears many locations took away that benefit for Executive and Business members which is quite a bummer then.

Unfortunately, that is not always true. I see it all the time, someone in the self-check out that has NO CLUE what they are doing. Drives me crazy.
Well I was speaking only about myself in that statement not about people in general. Yes there are plenty of peeps who don't have a clue on how to use the machines. If I didn't know how to use them I wouldn't be using them..that's just me personally.

I have the executive membership, and this year I got more than my membership fee back. We buy half our groceries there plus paper goods, occasionaly big ticket items, Christmas gifts, etc.

I'm sure I could get a lot of the grocery items cheaper buying on sale with coupons at Ralphs or Target, but the convenience is worth it to me. Plus the return policy rocks.

Not the person you quoted, but my Costco does not open an hour earlier for Executive members. I would like that also.

Sorry, missed your edit.
