Costco Executive Membership

I didn't think we spent enough to make it make sense to get it, and then one day they had some lady at the checkout line who swiped our card and showed us how much we spent that year. :scared1:

We got the executive membership.

I track all my expenses in Quicken so I ran a report to see what we spent there last year. Not enough to cover the added membership fee, so we passed. But I'll keep checking every so often, if our spending there goes up enough it might be worth it.

I still love shoping there though, their meats are the best!

I've had the executive membership for a few years now and I definitely spend enough to make it worthwhile! I always get my membership fee plus more back.

I use another Amex for purchases and after reading this thread, I am gathering that the Costco Amex does not have an annual fee?

My current Amex has a $69 fee. Plus I have so many reward points on it that are for hotels and flights, I can't spend them all.

I think it's time to switch cards and get the cash back Costco card.

Thanks!

No fee with the Costco American Express as long as you pay your Costco membership each year.

Wow - just looked at my recent Costco AM/EX statement (and probably last statement before the rebate checks) and noticed my gas was only earing 1% :scared1:

Reading the fine print, 3% is on the first $3000 per year. Never guessed I spent that much on gas - I am not currently working - but driving these boys everywhere - wow!

Another not so fun shocker when using the Costco AM/EX is enjoying :rolleyes1 the year end break down of your spending. You can even do it by merchant. A little rude awakening when you see Buffalo Wild Wings in the top 20 of amount spent at a merchant on your list. :rotfl: Oh dear!

Went to Costco's site, clicked on Membership, then Executive membership, then further down in the small print "membership benefits and Costco services."

"In the U.S., Rewards are not calculated: (i) on purchases of cigarettes or tobacco-related products, gasoline, Costco Cash Cards, postage stamps, alcoholic beverages in certain states"

I had the same thing happen to me as all the other posters. The cashiers scan my card and tell me I'm going to get this huge check, totally worth it, etc. I go up to customer service to ask about it and they explained gas is not covered although it's all together in their computers. We had to figure ourselves how much we spent on gas to remove that total. The cashiers won't tell you that.

I was in there this week and stopped to ask about this and was told we don't get cash back with our executive membership for gas. Even though we got a great rebate back this year, I feel duped! I swear that's how I was talked into the membership, because they mentioned the gas! Oh well, I guess I am buying more staples than I thought! But I tell you it sure is an incentive to get the AMEX card.
