I'm trying to figure out if I want to go through Costco Travel or Disney directly or do our own travel arrangements. I'd really like to book with Costco since they give the additional perks, like the premium meal, but I want to see if it would still be 0% for 6 months like it would if I use my Disney Visa and go through Disney Travel itself. Costco does use Disney Travel, even when they send the invoice, it's identical to Disneys.

I've actually booked the hotel portion myself, but I can easily cancel it and go with a package. I'm trying to save as much as possible, but it would be nice if I could have everything together for once! I've normally done everything separately in the past, for instance, last year I had 3 free nights at the Fairfield because of points we had accumulated on another visa card, so it made sense to do it separately. :thumbsup2

Just make sure that you are, in fact, saving money by booking a package. In most cases, it is cheaper to book separately!

I don't know the answer to your question, however. Hopefully someone chimes in!

The Disney Visa 0% financing is "valid for certain U.S. Theme Park ticket-inclusive Disney vacation packages (minimum one-night stay plus a Magic Your Way Base Ticket at Walt Disney World® Resort/two nights at Disneyland® Resort), all Disney Cruise Line® packages and Adventures By Disney packages and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i vacation packages of $101 up to a maximum $10,000 per transaction charged to Disney Rewards Visa Card prior to commencement of your vacation and booked by you or your travel agent through Walt Disney Travel Company or Disney Cruise Line ®."

So, if Costco is your "travel agent" booking throuhg WDTC, you should be good!

Just a word of warning, if you charge anything else to the Visa card while the 0% is in effect, you will need to pay everything else off, plus make your minimum payment due each month. So if you charge a $600 DL package and $100 for shoes, you need to pay $100 plus the minimum payment due (for example, 2%, or $14) to avoid all interest charges. If you only charge the vacation, there is no minimum amount due.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Will Costco take a Visa for payment? I thought they were cash, check, debit or AmEx only......

Thanks Suzanne! I will be thrilled if this is the case! I think I'll go ahead and book with them then...yes I understand about the other charges, thanks. :thumbsup2

I was told-- some time ago so maybe not true now-- but FIFO -- first in first out. So if you make the Disney charge first then they are going to put payment to that debt while the shoes---( sample used previous post) will be acruing interest until the 600 dollars is paid off. I hope I am wrong but check for sure. Please let me know if I am way out in left field.

Yes sonnyjane, normally I look at that very carefully, but I also love the idea of the premium meals, $20 gift certificate, preferred seating at certain shows, lanyard & pin(s) and Costco said I could use our disney rewards towards it too, I'm so torn! I guess it depends on how much of a difference it would be, you know? Thanks! :goodvibes

Yikes! As far as I know, I won't be using the card for anything but the Disney charges though, so I think I'll be fine!

So when you price it seperately, add in the cost of what it would be for the character (permium) meal and add $20. See what the price difference is. Then you can decide if the extra is worth the lanyard, pins, and other perks. If it's a small amount, might be. If it's hundreds, you can buy pins and lanyards at the parks, kwim?

I can tell you that going through Costco for DL essentially is the same as going through disney. The costcotravel.com web site and the costco travel phone number takes you a disney 'portal' (web) or call center (phone).
Costcotravel is less picky about which credit card they take than the costco stores. They take Visa, MC and Amex.

Even though Costco uses the Walt Disney Travel Co. I believe you still have to book the package through Walt Disney directly in order to get the 0% for 6months. Please correct me if I am wrong but I believe I was told this in the past. :confused3

In think you may be elegible for the 0%... This from the Disney Visa Site:
As an ongoing card perk, pay zero interest for 6 months anytime you use your card to book select Disney vacation packages, Disney vacation packages, Disney cruises, and Adventures By Disney packages and Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i vacation packages vacations through the Walt Disney Travel Company, your travel agent, or online at Disney sites. After your promotional APR expires, your standard purchase APR will apply. For new accounts, the standard purchase APR is 13.24% or 16.24% variable. For existing accounts, please see your Cardmember Agreement.

"Your Travel Agent" would essentially be Costco!

Let us know please, if Costco will take the Visa for payment. :) I'm interested! I have a Disney Visa and would love to use it to book a vacation. :)

I used my Disney Visa for our Costco package last November and it does qualify for the 6 months no interest.

to book through Costco. We did in 2009 and 2010. I priced it out and for us it was marginally cheaper to use the Disney/Costco if you factor in the character meal. However, we were also staying onsite -- no doubt you could do it all much cheaper staying offsite. The 6 mos. no interest is a bonus for me too -- we don't have any credit card debt, but this gave us flexibility in paying off the trip w/out accruing interest. And we had accrued enough Disney dollars for a couple more meals, etc. at the park. It was a good deal for us and I'd do it again.

I did price it out, and it was actually cheaper for the Fairfield then if we booked it ourselves (amazingly) but I'm going to check for a few other hotels too...it would be really nice to have everything in one place for once..Costco did say that if they came out with the special park ticket deal like they did last year, and we had already booked, they would give us back the difference, but there would be a $50 change fee, but she did say that if we added on a character meal or any other add on, they would waive it. If Disney is going to offer the special park deal, I wish they would hurry and post it!
