Costco Cruise Savings?

Keep in mind that some high-volume agencies will book a section of cabins for a given cruise and will be able to offer those selected sailings for less money (sometimes a lot less) than the regular discounted rates. My cruise (4/2/05) was quoted at $4600 (cat 9, 2A, 2C) on the DCL site, as well as by DU. I discovered an (internet) agency that offered group rates for my date and saved $1400! This is why it ALWAYS (IMO) pays to shop around...and use cruisecompete too, as you never know what you might find.

Good luck.

If you go to costco web they offer certian dates for the lower price, cat. 9, 7 night $967. I called waited the time while doing other things and got a price of 2405.04 total for family of 4 for 7 night eastern for sept 04. If my step daughter decides she wants to do the teen thing and go we will get two cat 12 with 3 in one and two in the other for $3546. DCL web was $304 more for the 4 of us and $787 more for the five of us. I will still check around as I want to book the Sept 06 sailing, seems like forever but i cant wait. Mum of pirate: pirate:

232271,

We are going June 25 - July 2, 4 people in a catagory 9. DU quoted us 6230.32, Costco quoted 5766.32. I was on hold for about 15 minutes!

We booked our cruise through a TA because it was our first cruise and the TA was convenient, next to my husband's work. Then I realized the online price was $100 cheaper so the TA matched that. Then, after checking Costco, I found it $200 less than that price. I called the TA and explained I would like the ability to speak to someone "face to face" but that I found it cheaper at Costco. She checked with the manager and was able to discount our cruise $100 more. Therefore we ended up paying $100 more than Costco but it was worth it to us because we were unfamiliar with cruising, documents, etc.

With a TA I was able to get in on some FL resident discounts when they were released. I wonder if this would be harder to do with Costco. (TA actually called me to tell me about it, would Costco do that?) I'm surprised you were able to switch from TA to Costco. I don't want to mess with it this go around but if we go again I'll probably get a Costco quote. It probably wouldn't be too different for a 3 night FL resident rate cruise anyway.

We used Costco for our three day last November. I called and checked with four other areas and Costco was the cheapest. I then called Disney Back and said this price is better than yours is that possible. She said that it was legit and they were cheaper. She did not offer to match the price. We saved $200-300 and had a great trip. Costco's service was very good although the wait time was a little longer then usual.

Hi all.

From my experience with my last 3day Dreams was a little higher than Costco. Costco beat DCL on our 3day by $165.

Looks like they are able to beat DCL on our upcoming 7Day by almost $375.

Thanks to all of you for the information. It seems that I may be staying with the cruise I already have booked for November 26, 2005, through DU, and being that I've already made a deposit and all, I hate to switch TA's on that one. DU's price is only lower than DCL's by the $75 rebate they offer though.

We were considering switching to the September 3, 2005 cruise in which case I think I would have tried Costco. I will definitely try them for our next cruise though as it sounds like almost everyone saves money, even considering the membership fee.

Hi 232271!

The wait is almost unbearable!!! I guess lots of planning and the DIS boards will be our saving grace!!!

Okay...now we're back to considering the September 3, 2005--Magic Eastern. We would be looking at a Category 9 and a Category 10...2 adults, 2 children, and a 2 year old. (I really wanted two Category 9's connecting or next to each other, but there aren't any available. :( )

DCL 4161.75
Orbitz 4161.75
MouseEar Vacations 3661.75

I haven't heard from DU. (That is something that bothers me about them, they are consistently the slowest to respond.)

So...MouseEars are $500 less than DCL on two staterooms. Wonder if Costco could even beat that?

Edited to add: I also got a quote from Small World, but it was for a different number of people, and it wasn't broken down like MouseEar into per person charges, so I can't compare it really...though for the original quote request they were about $350 more than MouseEar, $150 less than DCL.

jcemom,

I think you can expect 20% off from Costco. But now I think I am overstating the %, it's late!! Maybe 10%.

You will have to wait until Monday, and remember that they are in Seattle, so you have to wait if you are on the east coast. Put on your speaker phone while you wait, it's worth it to find out!

Good luck getting through to COSTCO travel. After spending at least an hour waiting on several occasions, I realized that the value of my time outweighed any potential discount. Horrible customer service IMHO.

Costco is one of the biggest booking agents of cruises out there, which is why they have the best prices. If you call first thing in the morning or at the end of the day you'll probably wait maybe 10 minutes...if you can't call then, I think even an hour waiting is worth $500. IMHO ::yes::

I had my phone headset on and kept on working while I was on hold (they said 20 minutes but I think it was less than 15 that I actually waited). The agent who helped me was the best I've ever had of any travel agency. She was actually having fun on her job!! I think she more excited when we found adjoining aft balcony cabins than I was!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

o.k now you have me wondering does anyone know the phone number

1-877-849-2730 You will have to wait until Monday to call and have your Costco membership # ready, they ask for it first thing.
Good luck!!

to some it is a savings to us it was $400 more than our
dreams unlimited quote. not sure why, but we have not be
able to find ANY body to beat the DU quote.

You don't need a Costco card to call them, both times i called they asked and i had it in the van. they told me they could give me one quote without it. I just didn't want to go get it. keep in mind the discount is only for sept through dec? maybe the dates are on there web, and i have found nowhere on there web were i could get a quote from them just a price of the $967. Then i had to call to find out the date i wanted and how much more the kids would be. for our sept cruise it was 2405 for a fam of 4. the waits not the end of the world, just think of it as your making $200-$600 for 20 min of work, wouldn't that be a little extra spending money.
