My dd needs to have her wisdom teeth removed. It's an emergency as she suddenly is in pain. I have good insurance, but I believe I have to pay 20%. Does anybody have an idea on the cost of this. I know it could vary if there are complicatons.

Not sure of the cost but be sure to put them under the pillow to recoup some money

When I had mine out (in my 30's), I went and had an estimate done. We were able to work out payments. It took over a year to pay it off, but it was a year without pain! From my understanding, it is much easier & less recoup time when you are young.

Good luck;)

My husband just had all four of his removed and our share of the bill was $232. He was in there for exactly 20 minutes and that included them knocking him out! Thankfully, none of them were impacted, but I still couldn't believe how fast it was!

I think it depends on where you live and how pricey your dentist is. My dentist does a good job and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. He flirts too much though.:p I can't remember how much it cost to have mine out. I think my pain meds made me forget how much it cost.;)

SeaShelley - that's what I'm hoping. That it will be under $400. for our share. What is happening is one is pressing on the nerve above it where it's coming in, hurting quite a bit. I've taken her in twice to see if these needed removing and they've always said no. She just had a check up 2 weeks ago, and again no problems with the wisdom teeth. And she has college finals this week. So she can't get it done until after finals. It is going to be so hard for her to get thru them. Because of this the dr. couldn't give her a script for pain. But she is on an anti-biotic just in case. I have a list of several surgeons the dr. recommends. I wonder if they would give me a possible cost for the surgery. If there were a big difference, and they are all recommended surgeons, I wouldn't go with the most expensive.

My dh just had this done last week here in Maryland. Total cost was $1990 for 4 wisdom extractions. Ouch.

I had all 4 of mine pulled about 5 or 6 years ago. Total cost was $1400. I was able to submit it as medical because I had anesthesia (I did not have dental insurance at the time). The insurance covered 50% so I had to pay $700 out of pocket.

Well, just got off phone with surgeon. It gets submitted to medical, so big difference. I should be paying much less this way.

i had all four out in sepetmebr and two of them were impacted. for that reason, my dentist sent me to an oral surgeon b/c he did not feel comfortable doing it himself.

the total cost was about $2000, but our insurance covered most of it. i think we only ended up paying about $500.

I have to get all 4 of mine out in the summer....they arn't even erupted from the gum...I don't like the sound of that, way too much pain for Caroline!!

Not sure of the cost...that's my mom's department :p

I had two pulled last year in Mississippi. They weren't impacted and I just had novacaine to numb it. I paid $43, which was 20% of the bill.

DH and I had ours done at the University Dental School.
Mine were about $300 - I had general anesthesia. DH had local - it cost $99 for all 4.

My college aged son needs to have his wisdom teeth out too. He has finals the week after next and then he has the consultation. They are looking at medical and dental I guess to see which one pays. I am also hoping my co pay isn't over $400. He is none too happy about this.

I had all 4 of mine removed over this past summer. 2 were impacted. I'm not sure of the total cost, but I believe the part we paid was somewhere around $250. The surgery itself wasn't that bad ... I had them pulled on a monday, and by wednesday, I was playing Ultimate Frisbee (with a mouthguard, which I normally don't wear)

(BTW ... the oral surgeon who performed the surgery was named Dr. Fear ... he wasn't very scary ;))

I just had all 4 of mine out in January by an oral surgeon. Dental insurance paid most of the cost - my out of pocket was only about $75.

One tooth was impacted and I ended up with quite a bit of swelling on that side of my face. Within 4 days the swelling was just about gone and one week after the surgery I had braces put on. (still had the stitches in my mouth!)

Good luck to your DD!

I had all four of my impacted widsoms removed last year by an oral surgeon, and it cost about $1600ish, about $400 a tooth. I also opted to stay awake with just novacane, as IV sedation cost an extra $300! I also had four other teeth (premolars) pulled at the same time, so it was a pretty painful experience for me!! I have no insurance so all out of pocket. I had to get the teeth extracted so I could get braces (and they cost another $6000!!!) :( :( :( My teeth pretty much depleted my entire bank account in one year!!!
