Cost of Upgrading at Port with a restricted VGT (edited)

I know that there is a special sheet that determines the cost of an upgrade, taking into account the category originally purchased. But does anyone have a ROUGH idea of the upcharge? For instance, is it usually around a certain percentage of the fare difference? 50%? More? Thank you.

We tried to upgrade at the port we were category 6 and someone in category 11 was quoted the same price, $6000. They only had the 2BR and the Walt disney Suite available when we finally got to check in. The 6k price was for the 2BR. I didnt ask about the WD Suite. We were on the Wonder, 4 night out of Galveston.

People used to report on this thread for info, but I don't know if it has tracked anything since the restart. There doesn't (or didn't in the past) seem to be anything easily discernable like a percentage.

It was more than 50% of the fare difference when I inquired about an upgrade for our Fantasy cruise 5 years ago. I haven't asked since then. I was considering upgrading from an inside to an oceanview or verandah, and it was pricey to upgrade, similar to what upgrading in advance would have cost. I saved my money and we enjoyed the magical porthole in our inside stateroom. The amount we spent during our whole cruise for excursions, bingo, specialty meals, etc., was about the same as it would have cost to upgrade the stateroom, so I was glad at the end of the cruise that I had chosen not to upgrade. It was money well saved.

From what I've read, upgrades to concierge are the most discounted type of upgrade, but their availability is very limited & it's still expensive because Disney concierge is expensive to begin with. I'm sure the percentage cost to upgrade varies by ship, itinerary, length of sailing, etc.

I was just on a wonder 4 day. Had a category 10a as our original booking and only availability was a 2BR Concieriege to upgrade. It was $6400 upcharge. Hard pass.

The lowest verandah category -- category 7, regardless of what you were assigned.

Thank you so much. Now I just have to keep my fingerts crossed they are allowing upgrades at the port. Just looking to move to a Cat 8a or Cat 4 cabin so nobody needs to sleep on a bunk

Cat. 8A is an oceanview, not verandah. And make sure your stateroom actually has the extra murphy, not all rooms in those categories do.

Yep. Just looking for the murphy bed - not necessarily a veranda. And I've got my list of Cat 8 to avoid with pull down bunks.

8A on the Dream class is typically a special type of oceanview stateroom with 2 windows & no murphy bed. Be careful & study up on the categories a bit more since you have specific wants.

They definitely have been allowing port upgrades since reopening. I saw that myself during my October cruise.
