Does anyone have a cost comparison for a Deluxe Room in Wilderness Lodge versus a cabin in Fort Widlerness.

Both have one bedroom, sleep 6 and have kitchen facilities so they seem comparable but I'm wondering which one costs more and why you would choose one over the other.

We are a family of five - myself, DH, DD(9), DD (7) and DD (4) and planning a trip for this August.

Thanks!

I think the Ft. Wilderness cabins will run about half of what the Wilderness Lodge deluxe rooms will cost. Depending on time of year, say $550 versus $275. The resorts are very different and each has its fans. I suggest you troll the disboards for more info about each.

So here is a long thread for the Wilderness Lodge:

And the WDWinfo.com page for the Wilderness Lodge:

And here is a WDWinfo.com page on for Ft. Wilderness:

Good luck!

The best thing to do to determine cost is go to Disney's site and punch your dates for both places. They have excellent pics there too.

For plusses and minuses, I think its going to come down to location, as the hotel is more compact I'm sure.

The deluxe WL rooms don't have kitchen facilites (at least they didn't when we stayed there), but they have access to the concierge lounge for snacks and drinks. If the kitchen is important, the FW cabin would be the better choice.

Another difference is that at FW, there is a double bed and bunks in the bedroom, and a Murphy bed in the living room. At WL, there is a sofa bed in the living room and two queen beds in the bedroom. So depending on whether the bunks or the sofabed could be a deal breaker, it's something to consider.

I found getting ready to be easier at WL, because the sinks are outside the bathroom, where they are enclosed in the FW bathroom.

I've stayed in both, and enjoyed both, but they are totally different experiences. WL will feel more like a resort, and FW will feel more like your own cabin in the woods (and a lot more private). You will have a good time whichever one you choose.

FW is less expensive and has the added bonus of having the kitchen. The deluxe rooms do not have kitchens at WL. Did you mean the WL villas? Another good thing @ the FW cabins is that you have outside space for your youngest and maybe your older two, to run off some steam. I believe each cabin also has it's own outside grill. Friends of ours stayed there and we went over to visit them. We thought it was really nice. They loved it! Rentinga golf cart to get around is also another nice option for your stay.

We stayed in the Wilderness cabins when our two oldest were 7 and 4. We really enjoyed it. There is some privacy since each cabin is separated from the others by trees and shrubs. You have a private deck with picnic table and grill which is good for cookouts, and a small paved area to park right beside the cabin if you have a vehicle.

The boys started out in the bunk beds, but then decided that the murphy bed in the living room was a better idea. We went out the very first thing and shopped for some groceries and got breakfast items (cereal, bread, milk, juice, frozen waffles, fruit) and sandwich items. We would go in the parks early, come back during the day and let the boys eat a sandwich and cool off in the pool, and then go back in the parks when the crowds started to dwindle and it wasn't so hot. When we would get back to the room early afternoon, the room had been cleaned and the breakfast dishes had been run in the dishwasher.

We haven't stayed at WL so I can't compare, but definitely recommend the wilderness cabins. There is so much to do all around the campground also where the kids can have fun without the crowds in the parks.

They either have different layouts for the Wilderness cabins, or they've changed since we were there (very possible since almost 12 years ago). The one we were in had the kitchen in the end of the cabin to the right. There was a window over the sink looking out the end of the cabin. The living room was where the kitchen shows on this layout, and the murphy bed was in the wall where the arrow/pointer is (just to the right of the tub). You entered off the deck between the living room and the kitchen, so the couch was along the wall to the left of this location.

Yep, the cabins have changed since you were there last. The layout shown above is right.

My choice would almost always be for a cabin, but I'm very partial to the Fort. I like the privacy and the space for my kids to "run around" knowing that no one else will have to hear them thudding around the room. Enjoying your morning coffee on the deck is a nice perk, or a lovely beverage in the evening is good too. Some people find the transportation around the Fort to be slow(not me I'm on vacation), but with the price difference you could easily rent a golfcart($49/day) and never use an internal bus. Riding around in a golfcart is amost an attraction in itself.

I assume the murphy bed is still in the wall to the right of the tub, where the pointer is pointing. Seems odd that it would pull down right in front of the stove, but guess it really doesn't matter. I would think that with that arrangement it would make more sense to just have the couch as a hide-a-bed.

Agree about not having to worry about the kids disturbing the neighbors since they are separated by distance when you are in your own individual cabin. When we were there I was almost as bad since I would start to lift the murphy bed with them in it just to hear them scream.....and laugh and "beg" me to do it again. The other side of that is you also don't have to worry about your neighbors banging and stomping over or beside you when you are trying to sleep.

I am definitely one who would suggest the wilderness cabin, and also the fort with all of its other attractions. We never felt like the bus ride was cumbersome to the parks, and it stops in a lot of places so you are never an extremely long ways from a stop.

The arrow is indicating the kitchen counter, the Murphy bed is in the front wall and pulls down infront of the sofa.

Wow, that window in the front wall when it was above the kitchen sink was really nice to have. Not that my opinion matters, but I think I would do away with the murphy bed in the next cabin design and replace with a sofabed and put a window back in that front wall.

All that extra floor space in the kitchen area seems to be wasted now when it used to be in the living room, unless there is a table and chairs there now. There also used to be a short bar with a couple of bar stools that help separate the kitchen and the living room, if I remember correctly.

Where is the extra entry from the outside? There has to be more than one way in and out of the cabin.

Guess I need to book a cabin again so I can actually see what it looks like with that design.

Wow, really nice, and now the layout makes better sense with the windows on each side of the murphy bed. And thanks for those pictures of what it used to be like.....brings back some great memories. Enjoyed the old wilderness cabins but it looks like they are even nicer now so definitely a great way to go!
