At the Swan, I can:
Enter the Parks early, am eligible for a length of stay pass, and have packages delivered to the resort.

I cannot:
Charge to my room from Disney or get 15% off at the World of Disney with my AMEX card.

Also, is the quickest way to Epcot walking or by water ferry?

Just trying to decide whether to venture outside a Disney property just an inch!

Thanks!

You CAN obtain the 15% discount using your AMEX card at the WOD...a stay at the SWAN would not interfere with this! :p
You can do the three things you listed, and a lot more.

The quickest way depends on how fast you walk. Sometimes, it's faster to walk...other times, the boat is faster. It all depends on many factors. It's nice to have the option for both. ;)

We stayed at the Dolphin in March 2001 and could not get our Am Ex discount until we moved to Port Orleans; Swan and Dolphin are not Disney resorts and you have to show a current Disney resort room key card to get the discount. Also tried to get the Am Ex discount when we played mini-golf; he gave it to me, but made it clear that because I was at the Dolphin I really was not eligible and he was just doing me a favor. Maybe they've changed the policy .. I hope so. I was really bummed when WOD wouldn't give the discount and had to return for my major shopping spree after we moved. That and "no Disney toiletries" was the only downside to the Swan/Dolphin. Location was perfect. Actual time is about the same for walking vs taking the boat, but if you have to wait for the boat then you're better off walking. For me, it depends on how much my feet hurt.

To be honest I much prefer the oatmeal soap at the Dolphin to the smelly bars of soap in the black mickey box.
I think its faster to walk to epcot than take the ferry, because it stops at the yc/bc and the boardwalk. Then it goes to epcot.

I agree on the Oatmeal Soap! I think the toiletries provided at the Swan & Dolphin are a step up from the Disney brands.

I don't need to see Mickey on my shampoo bottle, I see enough of him at the parks!:D

DITTO! YOU KNOW I HOARD THE STUFF! LOL;)

You know - to some people the "Mickey" toiletries are an important part of thier vacation - it reminds them once more that they are at Disney.

We should respect thier feelings when posting -

Ummm....okay.......

didn't realize us Oatmeal lovers were being disrespectful....

I even looked in the gift shop to see if I could buy some of that stuff. When I switched resorts this past trip I took my open bar with me! LOL

Walking to Epcot is always faster UNLESS
-- there is a boat waiting for you or nearly there, AND
-- you are a slow walker

It is not unusual to have to wait 15-20 minutes for a boat. You could easily be in Epcot by then. The boat is a better bet for going to MGM because there (I believe) no intermediate stops, and it's a longer walk. The boat IS fun and relaxing when you're not worried about time (e.g. on the way back!)

This is soooo funny. I just opened our last box of oatmeal soap from the Dolphin from our Nov. 01 trip tonight. My 2 dd's wanted to use it, sooooo funny!

Am express is an american express perk not depending on where you stay. We use ours freq. while staying at the dolphin or swan and have never been asked where we're staying

My son interprets walking distance to/from S/D to MGM as follows:

If the boat is at the dock fine-if not, walk. Now dd & I were normally so beat that we went and collapsed on the boat to get back.

At end of day, that nice ride back from Epcot is soooo relaxing. We got off at Boardwalk and watched the street entertainment and then walked back to S/D from there.
