Anyone else going though this? I'm about to tear my hair out.

My representative from the relo company won't call me back. We've never been relocated before so I have no idea how this works. My house won't sell and the buyout offer is terrible to say the least.

My H and I have lived apart going on 6 months now. I quit my job because it was a seasonal position (with the school system) so now I'm not working.

I'm sure this is nothing compared to those in the military but I will say, it's not any fun.

Ask your husband to contact HR at his company and explain the problem. Once they are involved the relocation company will start answering calls.

I agree. I would have DH contact HR and request a different relo representative.

Oh my, we just did this with DH's company. They were fabulous, his company right on down to the Movers.

Our move was so incredibly easy, easy. DH left me in May and I joined him in July. We remained in Executive Corporate Housing until Sept 1 when we signed a lease with a fabulous apartment complex here in the OC. DH was on full expenses from May through to Sept....everything from car to housing to meals, even his dry cleaning.

The movers were UNITED. They called me all the time and when I called them, they returned the call in a matter of hours. We are keeping our MA home (for now) and they moved out enough items for our 2 bedroom apt. Not one item was damaged but I thought my brand spanking clean rugs were walked on allot by the movers. They did not look as clean after all the movers (4) carried boxes in. They never put any drop cloths down. I called United, they told me to have all the carpets cleaned and send them the bill. :thumbsup2

I am sorry you are having some troubles with this....I would as well ask your DH to call his HR Dept.

We've done it--TWICE! It shouldn't be nearly as difficult as what you are dealing with. I agree with the PP's--have DH contact HR ASAP (and any other initials I can think of! ;) )

Try to pay attention to the packers--they 'should' list every item in every box, but that isn't always the case. The one thing you are looking for while unpacking will be unlisted on any of your sheets. :rolleyes1

Good luck--it really is a sweet deal and I am not looking forward to the day that I have to move without the assistance!

Thanks, we do have a call into HR but they haven't return our call yet either. My H has talked to others who are relocating in his company and they are all having the same problems.

Maybe I'll feel better after this is all over. I'm very sad to be leaving my friends and life here.

I wish I could say that it's a great deal to be relocated. All of the people in my H's company are being murdered by the buyout offer. We probably are the least effected but others are losing tens of thousands of dollars on their houses. I wish that we knew when we were offered this package that we would lose so much money on the buyout. It's a terrible time to sell your house but we were under the impression that they would give you market value on your house but that is not true at all. We've been offered a price that is lower than any other house has ever sold in our neighborhood.

I'm just venting. This has been so hard and I miss my husband.

Hang in there. You have a new adventure to embark on in life. Yes, it is tough to leave your friends (I still miss mine from our last move 9 years ago), but I have made some new ones and this adventure has been fun as well. Not as good as the previous move, but still good. I think I am a stronger person for it.

You will be amazed at how much stronger your marriage will become as a result of this move. When your spouse is the only other person you know for miles, you tend to bond more than ever. Enjoy. :lovestruc

DH's company actually quit buying houses from employees with their relo package years ago when the market was still good. Even in a good market, the employer would lose a lot of money if the house sat on the market for any length of time.

While you may not be happy with the buyout offer, if you can't sell the house at the price for which you have it listed, then it's likely that it's current value is less than the price you're hoping to get. "Fair Market Value" is the price at which you can sell the house. If you can't sell the house at your price, then it isn't "Fair Market Value". You could wait a year or two and your house's value may increase, but is it really worth waiting?

In your shoes, I'd drop the price and hope to get an offer quickly. If you can't sell soon, then you're likely better off to take the buyout. With credit still relatively tight, only buyers with 10-20% cash for a downpayment, really good credit, and a secure income are even able to qualify for mortgages, which has drastically decreased the number of buyers available.

I've been retired 15 years now, but in the last few years with the company I worked for I was involved in relocation.

Someone is dropping the ball big time. If I got a call from you someone would be hanging by the you know what. If I had a department or division relocating I would have enough people assigned solely to the project. They were on call 24/7 until the moves were completed.

I talked to the relocation coordinator from my H's company yesterday. She was very helpful and said that she would e-mail our contact at the relo company but I still haven't heard from him. I'll call him again today, hopefully he will call me back.

My H talked to his boss today about the relocation process. His boss is going to try to talk to his boss about what is going on. The company is going to have problems getting people to relocate if they are losing so much money on their houses. My H will probably not consider a transfer until the housing climate changes.
