I can see corporations, and stores and banks etc possibly closing.

But full lockdown of a city or town simply is never going to happen. Riots and war at that point.

If everything is closed down, what are people going to 'go to war' about ? If nothing is open, there is nowhere to go anyway.. If it comes to that point it will be because there is a danger to everyone and most people will self quarantine anyway.

As mentioned several major population areas have locked down and there haven't been any wars yet...

Simple Math -

We have 1,000,000 Hospital Beds in US -
65% of the beds are usually occupied

The rate of doubling if this virus is alarming so I wont present the numbers because that will another point of disagreement

If the 10% of the 325,000,000 US Population gets infected we are looking at 32,000,000 people

If 10% of those infected (based on current projections) require medical care you will need to care for 3,200,000 patients - and the 300,000 beds that are available at any give time may not be suitable for infectious disease

Along with the current extreme shortage of N95 masks, PPE (personal protective equipment) and Medicine (because 95% of medicines made in China) for our medical and emergency workers we will have to contend with

We have mechanisms to address quarantines, shut downs and not worry about civil liberties during an emergency

Which cities and towns are completely locked down? Where people are not allowed to leave their houses.

I'm booked for mid September, I'm playing it by ear and not going to decide until final payment is due in mid July. I'm wondering how many will be cancelling their trips, especially if Disney reduces the hours. I don't understand this business of reducing the hours, what difference will that make except have people cancel their trips because they pay for a trip and expect to get what they paid for.
Anyway. I'm not panicking, but, I do have a plan B just in case.

Again YOU CAN NOT compare overseas to here. Its completely different world.

Ok ? Italy is not a 3rd world country. Still more evidence that 'wars' won't break out than that they will. Only thing that will cause unrest is people who do not have 1-2 weeks of supplies... they should be gathering them now if they don't have them.

Disney just yesterday actually EXTENDED park hours for some parks through March and into april.

Maybe it’ll help spread out crowds at least a little bit? Compared to cutting hours, which seems like it would consolidate crowds more. Although, there’s probably not much difference between a regular crowd and a slightly less dense crowd when it comes to the parks.

We have a 10 day trip planned for May. 5/10 - 5/20. I’m getting somewhat concerned about this virus. My daughter is pregnant and will be traveling with us. My mom, who is 76, may also be traveling with us. Is anyone considering cancelling their trip? We are DVC so I don’t want to wait until we are 30 days out to cancel and then have my points go into holding status. Ugh...this is terrible. Everything is planned and paid for. But I just saw today that two people in Florida have now died from the virus. I don’t want to put my family at risk for vacation....what to do????
In the same boat...our DVC trip is April 23-30...Boardwalk Grand Villa (800 points...It's hard to think about losing that many points, some would go back into use year as we borrowed, but the majority would go in holding to be used with 60 days)...as a family we will take a hard look at 31+days out...

So is how DVC treats. It's owners? Dvc members should be allowed to cancel and points go back into accounts to be used when their ready not Disney.

It can't work like that. There is a set amount of inventory and a set amount of points. If people could cancel last minute and get all of their points back units would be left empty. Then you'd still have set future inventory but too many usable points. (super simplified explanation)

Then the rules need to be reworked to handle a situation like this. It can be done and Disney can make it happen.
I'm not going to get into an argument over this, especially since it doesn't sound like you're even an owner. I am. I have three contracts and a trip with a large amount of points coming up next month. I may end up eating those points but that's a risk that I understood when I purchased my contracts.

Best of luck to you. Discussion with you is over.

Well...DVC does have rules and as a member, I’m aware of them and abide by them. I don’t feel that they are treating their members badly by having rules. In fact, DVC is very good to their members, and often times make exceptions to the rules even when they don’t have to. But, I’m not entitled and I would never blatantly expect them to bend the rules for me. If you cancel within 30 days of the reservation, your points go into holding and you have to book something for travel within 60 days. If its more than a 30 day cancellation, you get all your points back, but they have an expiration date relative to your use year. And I borrowed a some points from my future use year that will remain in the current use year if I cancel so I would have to use them within this use year. I will consider all of this when making my decision to go, or to cancel/postpone. I knew the rules when I bought...and I will abide by them. And...I love my DVC membership! No regrets.!

What channel?

Was on my local CBS channel here in Palm Beach. Was a news conference with the Vice President and the Governor and CDC. A reporter asked him specifically about Disney World and that was his response.
