I mentioned this on another thread earlier
If you watched any of the specials last night on Corona Virus you saw Korea sanitizing streets and sidewalks, airlines wiping down insides of planes. People is Self- quarantine if they are sick or have travelled. All doing this in many countries outside of the US. Many people doing all that they can to minimize spread
Just my observances from here in Florida

Observances:
Finger entry to WDW and showing ID's No sanitizer on hand after entry to parks until you find a bathroom. How many fingers are on those kiosks daily????? Best Practice: Bring your own sanitizer.
How many times are you in and out of your wallet for $$, charge card, ID? How much do those items change hands?
Maybe people are washing their hands more after bathroom use but definitely not washing after phone use. People constantly on their phones even while eating.
People definitely do NOT sanitize their phones and these are surfaces where the virus could remain for hours.
If you dwelled on it, it could make you crazy the amount of surface space where it could be lurking...…………......

News out of Florida this am is that Floridians can't miss work due to illness due to not having paid sick days so it is an extreme hardship to miss work when sick as they won't get paid. I think this is a consideration and concern for many Americans not just Floridians and therefore needs to be addressed. How do you quarantine then if you are sick and display flu symptoms. Going to work to "pass it on" is the only option for some????
I applaud companies who are asking their employees to work from home where they can. This includes NASA, Facebook, Apple. 👏

Those who are elderly and have pre-existing conditions remain the most vulnerable statistically. We have to think of others beyond just ourselves.

Saw a very interesting new story this morning. My fire department here in Florida has a device they use to sanitize their ambulances. Its pretty much a fogging machine with chemicals that fogs
up and gets into every nook and crevice of the ambulance. Can be used in places as big as 5,000 sq feet

Disney should invest in these and when park closes use them all over the place.

So, the CDC is now officially recommending that people over 60 in the US stay home and avoid crowds (family gatherings, religious services, etc.)

Article

That seems like a pretty big deal.

I posted the 3.4 % death rate, and all other info in my previous posts to help raise awareness that leads to behavioral changes that help every one we interact with

Whether the 3.4% is correct or not going to change anything today, its a current calculated metric, one that seems very worrisome to many Infectious Disease Experts around the globe

There are too many unknowns at this time to make any accurate predictions (like warm weather killing the virus spread), but YOU CAN start to view the possible potential outcomes on any of your actions, like the example below.

IF...

There are/have been infected persons inside Walt Disney World,

THIS ...

Can be safely assumed that the virus will spread to other guests inside the parks

& THEN ...

Guests returning home, will then make community spread exponentially worse

OR ...

If Disney had decided to follow the closure of all Major Theme Parks located in China, Japan, and South Korea in the last 3 weeks

THEN ...

There would be probably be ZERO Community Spread infections traced back to a theme parks

I am not saying Disney World should be closed, this is just to highlight the decision making process.

Hopefully the right choices will be made at the right time.

The logistical nightmare of Disney World completely closing down. Just sit down and think about it for a second. That will be their 100% last resort option for them. They will do many other things first before a complete shutdown. Would be like closing down the entire City of Las Vegas

The parks overseas have no more than 700 hotel rooms. Big difference than 40,000 hotel rooms.

Definitely CAN NOT go off that 3.4% number because there will be thousands and thousands of people who get it and will never be tested.

But, at the same time, @bagpiper is right. Those Thousands who do get it with such mild symptoms will go on with their lives like nothing wrong and could spread it to the elderly and sick.
I think it’s hard because if you don’t know you have it then how will you know you’re spreading it? I’ve been washing my hands and I always cover my cough or sneeze. I’m also not going to sit at home and worry though either. I wouldn’t intentionally fly somewhere that has lots of cases because of the potential to spread when I get back. I wasn’t worried going to wdw though

We have a 10 day trip planned for May. 5/10 - 5/20. I’m getting somewhat concerned about this virus. My daughter is pregnant and will be traveling with us. My mom, who is 76, may also be traveling with us. Is anyone considering cancelling their trip? We are DVC so I don’t want to wait until we are 30 days out to cancel and then have my points go into holding status. Ugh...this is terrible. Everything is planned and paid for. But I just saw today that two people in Florida have now died from the virus. I don’t want to put my family at risk for vacation....what to do????

We just cancelled yesterday for April 16-21. Also dvc and wanted to avoid holding.

The actions of the park closures were just one of many closures and quarantines, and some of those cities under quarantines had populations as large as 11 million people

In a city with 11 million people, they were forced to stay home, not work, food was delivered, some homes shuttered and residents locked inside, and everyone had wait it out.

There is a dynamic flow of visitors to and from Disney, a potential factory line of transmission

2 Floridians died overnight of the virus

Yeah think about all the 20 and 30 year olds who get this and wont think anything of it. They will still be going out to the bars and clubs and malls and working and going to school etc....

We haven’t had any in our area otherwise I would be much more cautious because we do have a lot of elderly/retirees here.

Not going to happen here in the US. Cities simply WILL NEVER completely shut down. You will have civil war at that point.

I would not fear going unless I had an elderly person or someone with health problems going. Some people get it have mild symptoms and bounce back quick. I would be careful not touching everything, try not to stand close to others(kind of impossible at Disney), wash your hands a lot , and have plenty of hand sanitizer.

Italy has been under quarantine since about February 24 when they had a couple of cases now they’re almost at 6000, and yesterday morning they only had 3800

no amount of hand sanitizer for minding viruses it’s helping them out

not much resistance in China

Corporations And schools Will self Quarantine A long with governmental actions well hopefully contain the virus in the early stages

Yes, I don’t think you can have mandatory city-wide lockdowns like they have in China because of the differences in government authority and civil rights.

But, if places like Seattle and San Francisco regions cannot stop this from exponentially growing, you will likely have broad self-quarantine as in Korea. I’ve seen some pictures of the Korean subway stations (~8 million passengers each day) in mid-week now, and it is a ghost town relative to a normal pre-Cov day. With many of the large tech companies in San Francisco region already telling employees to work from home, I can imagine similar scenario if things worsen.

I can see corporations, and stores and banks etc possibly closing.

But full lockdown of a city or town simply is never going to happen. Riots and war at that point.

At this point, a person with any cold or flu-like symptoms should not be near a vulnerable population.

And this is how the economy becomes impacted. If a large population starts self-quarantine out of concern, businesses that rely on foot-traffic will suffer economic damage. Most jobs in America are not white collar or high-tech, which allows for work at home and still be paid.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I drove to Disney World the other day. Look at all those shops and stores around Disney that rely on Disney Crowds. Disney shuts down the entire area around it will be devastated. YES we see this overseas but their government and economy are run much differently than ours.

For this reason, is why I think we won't see Disney shut down completely until they have used all their resources possible first.
