I am not a fan of being flippant about this virus threat as so many in America are being right now. The WHO has made it clear - this is now a global pandemic. Americans need to start taking care.

There is a ton of misinformation out there.

The scientists are very clear. The threat is real. This is not a drill.
Being rational and using critical thinking is not being flippant.

Remember that viral loads for this have compromised the immune system of young, healthy healthcare workers all over the world. They are dying everywhere. The question - what would the viral load be if everyone took this advice and the average young family came into contact with hundreds of infected people during activities like this?

Let's say that only a handful of children die because of activities like this around America. Sounds like something that is statistically so low a probability that one would be willing to take that chance - unless your child is the statistical anomaly.

There is far more that we do not know about this than which we do. I would not want to be the one going on the internet and telling other people that it is safe. We don't know. And, if we are wrong and we influenced someone into doing something that they might not have otherwise done, we are complicit.

One. That's ONE. Single child under 10 has died.

Thats from 2-24 when there were still ZERO child deaths. Looking for the article about the 1 pediatric death that occurred, but they were of course immune compromised.

anyone who understands statistics realizes it is too early to declare these numbers. We know the numerator but we don’t know the denominator and that is certainly underestimated due to the sheer number of folks who have or have had COVID-19 but were never diagnosed. It is this false narrative of a race to statistics that is central to the hysteria being generated. It may end up being this high but it is far more likely to be much lower once we have years of statistics since it is here to stay in all likelihood.

We have a two-week trip to Alaska planned for late June. Right now, we are going but we are watching apprehensively. We fly from Miami to Seattle, ferry to Victoria for a few days, then ferry back and fly to Juneau immediately. Seattle, of course, is the US epicenter at the moment -- although most cases are at one nursing home. But it's still worrisome.

A buddy of mine just called this morning to let me know he didn't need me to drive he and his wife to the airport on Tuesday. They canceled their 21 day trip to Portugal due to coronavirus.

I am really amazed at the irrationality of the panic and fear mongering going on. People need to just be calm and keep informed from reliable sources, not the media. Obviously people who have underlying health issues and compromised immune systems need to avoid crowds and be extra vigilant. However, most healthy people who do get the virus will either not have any symptoms or have mild cold like symptoms. They will probably not get tested so we will never really know the true numbers. I plan to go to Disney in May and August. I will be washing my hands much more frequently for sure and no handrails.

We're heading to Seattle this summer and plan to hit Disneyland after that. I'll only change plans if I have to (ie Disneyland closes). All the panic will probably be over by then anyway.

My daughter and I are going somewhere in June. Not to Disney though. I would not take a cruise now if it was free! I can not imagine getting quarantine in one of those tiny rooms for day and days-no freaking way would I chance that.

Free would not get me on any cruise right now. The only way I'd get on a cruise right now is if they pre screened everyone before they set sail.

I have no trips planed. I did, randomly, have a dream last night that my family went to Disney and the virus started spreading while we were there.

I have a newborn and a toddler, so I already operate with a heightened amount of vigilance when it comes to hygiene. It’s reassuring to me that kids are unlikely to be unaffected, but my husband and I need to stay well for them and I also do not want to give this to my elderly parents with preexisting conditions. I’m hoping the warmer months will stop the spread or at least significantly decrease it. I have no trips planned, but I can’t see myself planning a trip until the situation greatly improves.

We are headed to Disney in late October. I am hoping and expecting that everything will have settled by then.

So, Just changed my vote to Yes. I had voted "wait and see" but what the heck. Less than a month to go so we are not changing our plans. The only change we may make is if we can score a lower room rate. I am stalking MDX hard, looking for any savings I can get. If anyone else will be there 4/6-4/12 stop me and say hi! I will be the guy with 50 Mickey hand sanitizers on my belt :)
