There is serious talk about grounding all air travel within in next week along with shutting down the entire country. This virus is no joke. I live in Nebraska and we just had our first case. A 36 yr old woman who had just come back from UK. Things are looking very grim for her.

Where did you read that they are grounding all air travel and shutting down the entire country? Let's see the article.

Talk from where? Who? This is the kind of fear mongering that makes people buy all of the hand sanitizer in the store when they need 2 bottles.

That would be a great way to skip right over a recession and head straight into a full blown depression.

This is not Ebola or Small Pox.

Remember that viral loads for this have compromised the immune system of young, healthy healthcare workers all over the world. They are dying everywhere. The question - what would the viral load be if everyone took this advice and the average young family came into contact with hundreds of infected people during activities like this?

Let's say that only a handful of children die because of activities like this around America. Sounds like something that is statistically so low a probability that one would be willing to take that chance - unless your child is the statistical anomaly.

There is far more that we do not know about this than which we do. I would not want to be the one going on the internet and telling other people that it is safe. We don't know. And, if we are wrong and we influenced someone into doing something that they might not have otherwise done, we are complicit.
Stop the fear-mongering. Jeez louise.

We don't have any travel plans till June. Beach vacation in a beachfront condo. I think we'll probably be as safe there as we would be at home, so we don't currently have any plans to cancel.

My sister is planning to go to Florida for spring break (in about 3 weeks) and is trying to decide whether to cancel. They are driving but planning to stay with my parents (78 and 80 years old). They are not so worried about surviving the virus themselves. but are worried about catching something and bringing it back to my parents. I think it's a valid concern.

We've been trying to encourage my parents to avoid any unnecessary errands just to be safe. (My dad, in particular, checks all the high-risk boxes.) They agreed, but in the last two days they've been to Home Depot, the pet store, Wendy's and Bob Evans. I really think they think it's all being overblown and "we'll be fine..."

We are in our 50s, but my wife has Type 1 diabetes. About a week ago our doctor told us that this is now completely uncontained, and likely can never be contained until/unless a vaccine is developed. He told us then that we should stay at home as much as possible, stop going to the movies, church, etc. because of my wife's health. COVID-19 is just too great a risk for her.

Fast forward a week and yesterday the CDC released this:New CDC guidance says older adults should 'stay at home as much as possible' due to coronavirus

This is not the flu. This is far more dangerous. Please be safe:

Does she have complications or comorbidies with her Diabetes?

It seems the country would be shut down, if all with diabetes or other concerns were told to stay home.

Brother has well managed type 1 diabetes. I can't see his doctor telling him to stay home. Daughter has lupus-well managed. In fact, her maintenance drug has shown positive response to covid 19 in China. I also have an autoimmune disease. Otherwise, the 3 of us never get the common stuff and shake it off pretty fast.

Basic hygiene and personal care-plant based diet, exercise, sunshine, vitamins can go a long way.

Hope that works out for you. I'll trust our doctors.

Already been covered and answered extensively.
Yeah, a lot of people are going to die before some people here take this seriously. Only in the US is this being treated like the flu. I guess the whole world is fear mongering?

Sad. So very sad. Stay safe.

I totally understand you following your family's doctor's advice.

I'm not a fan of being sorta flippant about folks dying.
I think we are all trying to get up to date information.
We will know a lot more once major testing gets ramped up.

I am not a fan of being flippant about this virus threat as so many in America are being right now. The WHO has made it clear - this is now a global pandemic. Americans need to start taking care.

There is a ton of misinformation out there.

The scientists are very clear. The threat is real. This is not a drill.

We just got back from WDW on a 9 day trip. All this Coronavirus started up while we were at WDW. We just did what we could with hand washing, no handrails, etc. I really think that people who have paid megabucks for their vacation already will not cancel. Would we go now knowing what we do? No, I would cancel as I think WDW is a petri dish of illnesses as it is. One of us always get sick at the end of our trip, always!
