Coronavirus Poll - Are you still going or.....

Are you still planning to go on vacation during Spring Break/Summer to WDW?

We are heading to DW on Friday (3/13) and flying back on the 22nd. My biggest fear is that we will get stuck in Florida not that we will get sick. I've been debating for a week whether or not to rent a car (that we won't use) just in case we have to drive back.

We are supposed to leave in 8 days on March 19th and we were planning on driving anyway- from Ohio. My family and my sister's family are going together. We plan on going still as long as WDW is open and there is not some sort of mandatory travel ban or quarantine happening here. Who knows? We have to keep packing and planning as if we can still go and hope for the best. Of course we would all be devastated if we couldn't go, but we don't want to contribute to the problem either. It's been a rough 24 hours, but we are lucky I guess to be in this situation anyway, of having the privilege to go in the first place. I am a former cast member and haven't been in 20 years, so I guess one more year of waiting in the scheme of things wouldn't make that much difference. But to my almost 11-year-old son, it might seem a little longer.

Given light of the recent change given to this Pandemic, I am curious if the people who voted yes still feel the same way. I think the next 60 days will be dicey regardless of where you live and how each of us reacts to this fluid situation. I am still holding onto my reservations for June but may lose my courage if this by chance turns even worse.

We voted yes and are currently planning on still going in at the end of March.
Our flight home was full and crazy priced when we booked, it is now nearly empty and seats selling for $28 when I checked tonight!
We are going to book a rental car for the 24 hour drive home just in case of any issues with the airlines.

Unless someone tells me I can't fly there next week, we are going. Life is short, even without this new virus. The medical system is probably much better there than where we live anyway. Everyone needs to do what they feel is right for their situation.

We fly out the end of May,through Seattle, hoping that like the flu this virus dies out in April. We’ve been planning this trip for 2 years 😢

I haven't changed any of my vacation plans other then going places within driving distance versus flying. Planning on going down to Cedar Point twice in the month of May. It may not be Disney but it's a lot cheaper and for me almost as much fun

We go end of May. Plan to still go for now. (as I said back when this poll first appeared). However, yesterday I dropped off the 1st 2 nights (May 28 and 29). So now we have May 30-June 4. Mostly because DH thinks he won't be able to miss work. We may still end up cancelling all. But we have a lot of DVC points (@119) needed to be used before Aug 1. The other 61 can be banked by 3/31. Have to make FP by that day too. So March 30th is the decision day.

With NBA, NHL (other multi billion dollar businesses), all crowded events being cancelled, the theme parks are going to look very irresponsible if they continue to operate..

The purpose of the closures is to slow the spread of the virus so that medical facilities are not overwhelmed for the severe cases, even if most others can be gotten over by normal means. So just because people aren't worried for themselves, they should be worried about spreading the virus to others who may not be able to combat it.

So definitely not planning any visits until the full scope is known.

Not WDW but we are going on a cruise early in May. Currently I am not worried. We are healthy people and the cruise lines are taking precautions and the only way we won't go is if the cruise line cancels the trip. Gotta love all the floating petri dish comments and tin can comments about a cruise ship lol! You are just as likely to get whatever there as you are in WDW, a cinema, the public bathroom, work, the grocery store and so on.
But you wouldn't be stuck in a movie theater or a public bathroom or the grocery store until you were permitted to leave. That point seems to be lost on a lot of cruise enthusiasts. If something goes wrong on a cruise ship, you are trapped. Period.

If you have to cancel, it may be worth at least asking if the points expiration date can be extended. Southwest airlines did that for me once on credits that were expiring and there wasn’t even a global pandemic at the time. It never hurts to ask.

I keep coming back to this point. It seems like everything is being cancelled, especially large events with lots of people attending. That is the definition of a theme park. You have tons of folks from all over in a tight space. I keep thinking they could never close, but then I think, how can they not close? I still don't think they will close, but its just baffling that you can't go to a sports game, or a conference, or college, but it's fine to go to Disney.

It is a little bit easier for me to maintain my distance from other people in a park like Disney World then it is at a sporting event. Cramming 75,000 people into a domed arena has got to be worse for virus transmission then the majority of the outdoor park walking at Disney World.

I still wouldn’t go myself, and I would not be surprised if the parks began to close at this point-but I can see how they didn’t feel like the NBA/NCAA had to dictate their behavior

I just keep thinking of the "shoulder to shoulder" crowds. When we are at rope drop and are inches from people standing in an enormous group. Or crammed into busses and monorails. Or crammed into theater type rides like philharmagic or muppets. Or when in line, everyone is inches from the person in front of you and when you are corralled around and around, there are people in front of you, behind you, to your left and your right. Extremely close quarters. Not to mention the surfaces. They can only disinfect surfaces so much. It helps, but not fool proof.

Its not so much letting the NBA/NCAA dictate their behavior, it's more about stopping crowds of people I think. Every time you turn on the tv it seems something else is being banned or canceled or postponed. I would think a theme park would be at the top of the list with people traveling from all over to be in tight quarters. we all joke about Disney being a Petri dish. I really don't see it closing but it just makes you wonder.

We are not going in late May as planned. My son is immunosuppressed and we are trying to stay away from larger crowds though it is tough. Our trip to Europe this summer has also been postponed until next year. I can't risk it for him and our drs. agree. No panic here just not taking a risk with his health.

My trip is booked for mid May and I'm still planning on going. Only way that will change is if I literally can't go (e.g. DW shut or flights from the UK are restricted).

I saw an article on Orlando Sentinel that said the following:

“Rightly or wrongly, most investors we speak with believe Disney’s US parks will close,” the note said. “For them ‘whether the parks will close’ is no longer the operative question.”
Instead, it’s a matter of “when and for how long?"

I think that would be the prudent thing to do - close for 2-4 weeks and see what happens.

Were supposed to leave Saturday and cancelled. We have APs and driving and staying offsite so not losing much. It’s not worth it to me...I would be on anxiety overdrive and jumpy the whole time, not fun. And I am a believer in flattening the curve.

We were supposed to leave tomorrow for our drive down from CT. They have since closed most of the schools here and more cases are coming in.

We unfortunately cancelled:( We were able to change my DH ticket to October and move our hotel to October as well.

We just don't want to chance it! No fun to constantly be worrying with all the crowds in the parks. And they have also cancelled Spring Training and most sports events. We also had tickets for the game:(. Hopefully Stub Hub will come through and refund us.

Stay healthy everyone
Liz
