Coronado Springs - Tell me the good and Bad!

I have experienced CSR as part of a 5-member family (I'm the oldest daughter) and also as part of a young couple. I have stayed in all 3 sections.

I think that CSR is simply stunning in it's views, theming, and landscaping. I also appreciated the super-large hot tub that could accommodate many people so I never found myself without a spot. The convention goers did not bother me one bit, so what if they're wearing a name tag and a polo? The buses were darn near empty, so I found the conventions to be a huge plus.

Speaking of the buses, they are the best. Couldn't ask for faster or better transportation. I enjoy the Pepper Market-- 10% doesn't phase me in the grand scheme of things. I loved interacting with the chefs and getting my foods just how I like them, and that was worth the extra fee. I got a Greek pizza there one time that I still dream about to this day!

I can see how many people would find the size of CSR and the walking to be a draw back, but honestly, I love strolling the beautiful grounds and I feel it gives me an excuse to eat one more Mickey-head shaped ice cream cone after all the calories I burn! :mickeybar I also think it's not as much walking as others make it out to be, but maybe I'm ambitious. :confused3

Never had a problem with the staff and I definitely had a privacy curtain. I think CSR is the best mod and an excellent value. It was the front-runner for our honeymoon resort until I got a deal I couldn't refuse from the Swan.

Good luck with your choice. I would recommend CSR to anyone!

I have only stayed in the Cabanas, but am hoping to give the Casitas a try soon!

If you dont mind my asking, what would you consider the main pros and cons of each section?

CSR is my favorite resort for the money. I LOVE the landscaping/theming. Don't like Pepper Market very much, but our family eats breakfast in our room most of the time and we eat lunch and dinner at the parks. We ate at Pepper Market once, didn't care for the setup, so we won't go back. No biggie, though. We stayed at POR last time we went and didn't use the foodcourt once. :confused3

I really MUCH prefer CSR to POR. The busing at POR is dreadful. There were nights that we waited at the bus pickup for an hour and a half because the lines were so long. Never had that problem with CSR. I never noticed a problem with the convention people, though I would say that would depend on which convention was there at the time.

Buzz has excellent answers to these questions on his website (linked in his siggy) which are probably more of what you're looking for (closest to the pool, closest to other things, etc.). However, I'll be happy to share my personal opinion!

I like the Casitas and the Cabanas the best. The Casitas had the prettiest fountains, and I have a thing for fountains. They also had the least small children running past the doors in the evenings because I believe this is where they put the convention-goers. The buses stop here first, I believe. Again, Buzz has the info on his beautiful site. If convention-goers bug you, you might consider the equally great Cabanas.

The Cabanas are wonderful too, and I really appreciated the hammocks and the white-sand beach to hang out on. It's a good proximity to most everything and I like the surroundings and looking out at the Casitas and El Centro.

I like the Ranchos the least, but this is ONLY because I don't care for the "dry-looking" surroundings-- lots of rocks and cacti, etc. This does not appeal to me, it seems to make me thirsty! Other than that, it's perfectly great!

Buzz had a post above about the "best" rooms to stay in in each area. Hope that helps answer your question! :)

Thanks for taking the time to post! =) I have read Buzz's site, MANY, MANY times, so I was looking for some new reading! LOL

We love CSR. We stay deluxe when we can (and have stayed at most of them). We tried POR and ASsp and would not return. I will say that we are not heavy resort users. It's a place to crash, change clothes, and maybe grab a bite to eat. My comments don't apply to the various extras and amenities. :earsboy:

We are staying at CSR for the fourth time this December. I LOVE it!!!
Great transportation, great pool, love the Pepper Market. The spa is an added bonus and the hammocks are so relaxing. I honestly have no negatives.

Everyone is mentioning how big CSR is, and it has me wondering if it is as big as CBR?

We have stayed at CBR a few times, and loved it. The size never bothered us, but how much bigger is CSR?

Bad: Convention resort. So lots of folks in business suits and "hello my name" nametags.
Ok I am really curious. Why on earth would this be a con for a resort? A person in business dress at a resort- how on earth is that offensive to someone?

Mayl this is not directed at you, just a question in general. It's not the first time I have seen people with this complaint. I just don't get it.

:confused3

Plus, CSR is not the only convention resort but yet it's only mentioned as a negative for CSR. The GF, BW, CR, Y&BC and Swan/Dolphin are all convention resorts but no one is up in arms over those. I guess some need to use whatever they can to knock a resort.

To me CSR seems much larger than CBR.
From what I've read, CSR sits around a 15 arce lake and CBR sit around a 45 acre lake. Yes, the food court and pool are in the same area but if you are not in a preferred area at CBR, you can be quite a distance from both of them.

Here's my take on CSR...
All in all it was nice. But since I've stayed at POR, WL, POLY, boardwalk and contemporary before, it didn't have that 'feel' for me.
We were in Casitas #5 water view. The view was of a tree. :confused3 It was a long walk wherever we went. I'm a coffee drinker and in the mornings I would be sweating by the time I got to the Lobby so I would always switch my intended coffee for a soda.
The busses were good, fast mostly. Lots of love bugs all over the bus stops though, but CSR can't help that, I'm sure they were everywhere.
Well anyway, this year we're trying AKL, and I'm even worried about that since I  the Wilderness lodge so much...

:surfweb: My wife and kids and I stayed at the CSR in the Summer of 2006. We had a great time there. we were in Casitas #1 on the top floor. Our room had privacy curtains between the sink area and the beds. we thought the resort was great, on the DDP, the food court was much better than the Carribean Beach Resort where we stayed in 05

just got back on 23 Sept

PROS

Dig Site with fabulous Hot Tub

CM's really kind and helpful

Lovely Lake Walk...fish and terrapins in the lake....rabbits and squirrels on the grass

Good regular bus service

Close to most parks so small journeys on the buses

Guest rooms were great - fridge/coffee maker and fresh coffee daily

CONS

Food Court and restaurant entirely inadequate for no of guests especially when conventions on

Quiet pools closing at 10pm

So big it lacked an atmosphere

I think the pros outweigh the cons here!! We will be staying at CSR for the first time from 11/29-12/5 and I can't wait. I love Buzz's website- very informational.

A couple of times that I have stayed at CSR I have found the conventions to be a plus. We were there once during a series of AutoZone meetings and it appeared as thought the AutoZone crowd were in meetings all day and were having their meals brought into the convention area. As a result the infrastructure of the resort (food court, pools, buses) was practically empty.

We just gpt back last evenng from 13 nights at CSR. I agree with the poster who said the Peppermarket was inadequate for the number of guests. While we were there the IRS had a convention and WOW!!! it was a big conference. The Peppermarket had a line all the way down the hallway alot of the time that convention went on. It was only about 4 days but while it was going on it was really packed. The parking lots were filled(signs saying, LOT FULL) in the morning because so many for the conference were driving in from other hotels to attend. They all carried these blue and black bags all the same if they were attending the conference so you couldn't miss them. It also seemed that they picked and chose between what sessions to attend because a big group would come in the Peppermarket and then run out for a session and then another group would appear during the day. The morning the conference was over it was amazing the difference. We were in Casistas 1. I saw other conferences when we were there but by FAR that was the largest!!!
I will say it was very quite in Casista's 1 at night-time, there wasn't any noise at all. I did miss having a pool close though. The Dig site was really nice but it was far and my daughter is disables. The carts did come by but they were almost ALWAYS full with people. There was a formal dinner one evening where it was evening wear (tuxedo's and gowns) for one of the conventions and the golf carts spent most of that night filled to the max driving people in evening wear to there convention dinner. It was drizzling and the carts were just packed for hours. I don;t know if it was the IRS convention because they were not carrying there blue and black bags with hteir evening attire(LOL). I htink it was the day before that conference started. !3 nights you see alot!
