Hey my fellow disers!

Well, I am back at it, obsessively reading all the threads I can to prepare for our next trip!!!! This one will be a total surprise to our 2 girls:banana::cool1:
This will be our first time at CSR. The last time we stayed at a moderate, we stayed at POR and loved it! I originally booked there, but the CM's I talked to really insisted on upgrading to CSR (however, the only thing left available for when we are going would be "preferred." Honestly, we don't exactly have alot of extra cash around, we really don't know what we are missing yet, but it would be nice to go somewhere different, I just wanted to make sure that you all agree that CSR is one of the best moderates. I would probably pick POR for the fact that it's less expensive, but seeing as our kids are still needing naps, and we may be in the room a little more, I am thinking we should maybe splurge for the queen beds. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I can't really comment on any of the other moderates becuase we've only stayed at CSR (nine times). I can tell you that POR would be our second choice as we like the theme and the food court; however, it has been hard to leave CSR as we've had nine outstanding stays.

POR will also be offering preferred rooms as well starting next year and are getting a rehab and queen beds (I'm not sure when they will start that rehab).

You don't mention how old your girls are. I do know that kids love the Dig Site pool and the awesome playground right next to the Dig Site. It really comes down to what you want out of the resort. If you are leary about trying something new or the money is really an issue, then I would go with POR since you know it and liked it. If not, CSR really is a great resort and I think you will enjoy it.

On 12/13 I cancelled our AP-rate CSR reservation for a Queen/Std. room from 12/20-23. A CR AP-rate room finally opened-up so I switched.

Since the WDW reservation system is still down for upgrades until this afternoon, I couldn't see if the room is still available. But at the time I cancelled there were only king rooms so if no one grabbed it the evening of 12/13, it should still be available when the system is back up this afternoon.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2011:santa:

:woohoo::banana::woohoo:1 WEEK DANCE:woohoo::banana::woohoo:

I have my last Wednesday class today then one class tomorrow and I am done with my last semester of classes...Student Teaching here I come! We're going to open gifts on Sunday night since it's just easier to not have another suitcase for gifts since we're flying Delta and they charge for every bag! Oh well this means there is more room for souvenirs. Although and this may sound silly to some me and my brother still get "Santa" gifts, we've just always had a tradition that we still have one gift on Christmas morning that is put under the tree while we're sleeping and I still like to call them our Santa gifts even now that we've grown up so I think mom may pack those gifts.

Not silly at all -- that's so sweet! :goodvibes Congrats on finishing your schooling. Best of luck to you as you begin Student Teaching! :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful vacation!! Maybe we'll see you there! :santa:

I just returned late Sunday night from a split stay (five nights at CSR and three nights at YC). Out of curiosity I did not do online check in at CSR, but did for YC. Thanks to Air Tran switching my direct, nonstop flight to one with an almost four hour layover in Atlanta, I didn't arrive at CSR until almost 4:00pm. I usually get into MCO about 9:20am, so wasn't sure what to expect arriving in the afternoon. I had booked a standard room at both resorts and had requested a first floor room in Cabanas 9B or 8A at CSR. Upon arrival there was only one person waiting in front of me, so I was checked in quickly. I asked if I had gotten even close to my request and was very pleasantly surprised to find I had received a very nice upgrade to a corner room in building 9A with a double water view. It was a corner room right next to the quiet pool. My side window overlooked the quiet pool and the front window overlooked the lake with a bench, white sand beach, then a hammock right in front of my room. I was maybe 45 seconds from the quiet pool and less than five minutes from the main pool, main building, and bus stop 4. I was about halfway between bus stop 4 and bus stop 1, but usually used bus stop 4. I loved walking right in front of the pool every morning, then taking the path between 9A and 8B to the sidewalk behind 8B to the bus stop. I didn't get any towel animals this trip, but had a very nice housekeeper who kept my room spotless (no dust anywhere) and who left me very nice notes thanking me for the mousekeeping envelopes I left her and hoping I was having a nice trip. This is the first time I've ever had a housekeeper leave such personalized notes. I really enjoyed and appreciated the personalized notes more than I would have a towel animal. She just seemed so sweet. I went to the Pepper Market one day and got food to bring back to my room. The steak burrito and oreo cake were very good. The only negative had to do with the bus service. I always talk on here about how the bus service at CSR has always been the best of any resort I've ever stayed at, but it was really bad this time. Bus waits were long and buses were very crowded this trip. Due to the cold weather I didn't get to enjoy my proximity to the pools, but did enjoy looking out at and walking by the quiet pool every day.

I switched over to YC for the last three nights/four days of my stay and arrived very early (around 8:30am). I did use online check in for the YC stay. There was no line and I was shocked to find my room ready that early in the morning. Not being familiar with the YC the only request I had made was first floor or close to elevator. When I arrived at my room, I found that I had again received a nice upgrade with a first floor room that faced the quiet pool. The door to go out to the pool (and hot tub) was only about four doors down from my room so again I was less than a minute from the quiet pool and if I walked down the hall in the other direction, I exited a door that opened up onto the boardwalk, right at the marina. The buses were quite a hike from my room, but the boats were less than five minutes.

I had a great trip and enjoyed both resorts, but because of the cold weather was not able to use the pools at either resort. I did see other people using the pools, but I am a true southerner and no way was I getting in that water when it was that cold. My main reason for staying at the YC was to be able to use Storm Along Bay, so I was disappointed the weather didn't cooperate. The boats at YC were very crowded and several times I had to wait through several boats before I could get on a boat. Due to the poor boat service (which everyone was complaining about) and not being able to use Storm Along Bay, I really wished I could have spent the whole week at CSR. Oh yes, the beds at CSR were more comfortable than the ones at YC. Due to no CS at YC, I only used the refillable mug one time whereas the one I got at CSR I used several times a day. I was on the DxDDP for both ressies, so got two free mugs. Again I enjoyed both resorts, but really wished I could have got my AP discount for the whole week at CSR.

We always note it on our reservation so I would call and put it on there. We also fax it every year (although we didn't do it this year for some reason); I know the CSR used to read the faxes, but I wonder if they are going the same way as everyone else and not reading them anymore??? :confused3

But definitely call and have it noted. When are you going and where would you like to be, if possible? The reason I ask is as of January 1 they will have preferred rooms and unless you pay for it, you won't get that area (unless you get an upgrade).

We'll arrive there on Sunday. I'll call - thanks!

Also, can someone please tell me how they felt Maya Grill was? What kind of food do they have?

We enjoyed it very much. We weren't going to go there based on some reviews we read, but we were walking around the resort and decided to give it a try. We liked it so much we went a 2nd time on our last night.

Here is a menu
http://allears.net/menu/menu_mg.htm

We liked the stuffed mushroom and scallop appetizers. The prime rib was delicious, as was the kobe burger, DW liked the chipotle chicken.

DS liked the tenderloin tips and mac n cheese from the kids menu.

Hi Kathy!

I was reading on another thread about pizza on the dining plan. It said that you can get a large pizza, two desserts and two drinks for two counter service credits (only if you pick it up - delivery is still two table service credits). If that is correct info, do you know of a place we could do this at CSR? Thanks for your insight!

Stinkerbell 2: If the Casita's are going to be preferred I would pay if you are going to rely on the buses for transportation. Bus Stop 2 is the first on and off and I would request to be close to it. I had requested it on our trip last week but didn't get it (got a BAD Rancho's room). It would be worth paying the little extra IMO.

Hi all! We will be staying at CSR for the first time from 31 January until 5 February. :goodvibes I am wondering when the pricing for preferred rooms/buildings begins? I will be traveling with dh and our youngest, who is 5. I have no desire to be by the Dig Site since the weather is so hit or miss in the dead of winter. I would, however, like the shortest walk possible to the Pepper Market and a bus stop. I did peruse the many wonderful pictures of the resort and love the area with the fountains. What building would you recommend? I don't want to pay extra for preferred, and would rather stick with the standard. Thank you all in advance! :worship:

Done with the last class of my bachelors degree education. 14 weeks of student teaching to go and I will officially be a teacher!

And in less than 6 days I will be at the happiest place on earth!!

Thanks so much for the feedback, Minnie! So, then if I kind of want to be close to Dig Site, and the main building and restaraunts, what building should I request?

Thanks, KatMark! We are staying put :)

Cabanas 8A is closest to the dig site, Casitas 1-3 and cabanas 9A and 9B are closest to the main building. Cabana 8A is closer to the main building than the Casitas are to the Dig Site.

Hi Kat,

Our vacation is coming up so quickly, now!!! YAHOO.

But, I'm a little concerned. I just read a post elsewhere on the boards that all requests are now being ignored, and reservations are being handled by computer. We have two rooms, and since I am disabled - I really wanted my daughter near us. Also, since I have a scooter, was hoping we'd get our request for Casitas 4 or 5 to be near the 1st bus stop (figuring the resort should be fairly empty between Jan 10th and the 16th. We move for our 2nd week to another hotel in DTD.)

People are also stating CM's are barely looking at the computers and saying nothing else is available - this I find hard to believe because most CM's really do care about their guests.:confused3

Any info would be appreciated. :thumbsup2

As always, reading the boards. :surfweb:

I didn't read that thread as saying CMs were barely looking at computers - that was one person saying HE acted that way when he worked in reservations.

That said, I have essentially the same question - do we think it's still worthwhile to fax in a request?

Like I said in the other thread, I am going to continue to put my requests in. Even though the computer supposedly doesn't acknowledge them, the CM will see them when they pull up your res. and I'd assume look into it right then, rather than having the CM tell you what room you're in and you having to give them requests right then.

I honestly don't know if it makes any difference, but we've been doing these trips for a long time, and I don't plan on changing how I do them now. It's called getting old.... :thumbsup2
