Last weekend the place was packed from people from Louisiana. I never saw so many New orleans Saints jerseys or LSU purple shirts in one place.

Bill

You made me giggle, Bill! Many of my fellow Louisianians made their annual trek to Disney because of our Mardi Gras break from school/work. We've made that same trip several times ourselves and have run into sooooo many people we know and shouted "Geaux Tigers" or "Who Dat" to many more we didn't know. :lmao:

Good stuff!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Who Dat Babay!! LOVE IT!!

Question about requesting a room!

Ok...I initially put us down for a preferred room...until I discovered those are farther from the main pool. Now I want to switch....will they give me the credit for not wanting the preferred anymore!??!

And if I call to request...am I able to give 2 requests...like Cabana 8A or Ranchos 7B?!?!

Thanks!

I never did come and update after my post while there for the grainger convention so I will do so now in an effort to alleviate some concerns and provide information for others.
I love CSR. Still do. What ended up happening pretty much as I was posting was that my husband went to the front desk to talk to them. Let me preface this by saying we have never complained in a hotel or restaurant before. We don't make a habit of it ... but we did have some concerns that were major to us.
We moved to CSR for the first half of our stay after receiving a letter from Pop Century that the main pool would be under refurb. We appreciated the notice. The first 3 days of our stay were room only and specifically for exploring the resort, relaxing and swimming if the weather allowed.
I was able to find a room at CSR and was excited. We stayed there for our honeymoon and LOVED it.

The first two days were great. Our room was Cabanas 8B on the parking lot side. The room was a little worse for wear, nothing terrible.. but showing some age. But I really didn't mind as we could see a bus stop from our window (for going to Downtown Disney) AND we were spitting distance from the Main Pool:goodvibes

We went out in the morning (ended up doing an early ticket pick up and spending the morning at MK) and came back to spend the day by the pool.
That is when I made my other post. Came back to a MAJOR convention dinner being set up and pools closed. The lawns in front of ever single building were covered in tables and chairs.. I can't imagine the irritation to the guests on that side of the building. The parking lot right outside my room was filled with waiters, workers and catering trucks. The pools were closed. There were giant speakers all around Lago Dorado so that all the diners could hear the speaking and music. There was jugglers, stilt walkers and fire throwers practicing in the parking lot.
You get my drift.. this was not a minor annoyance. In fact we felt in the way, and very out of place.

Now for the good news. My husband went to talk to them and basically ask why we hadn't recieved any notice, as we would have chosen another place to stay.
They were extremely accomadating. I think it helped that my husband is polite and kind. He didn't run in there yelling.. he just wanted some answers and to express his disappointment.

They instantly agreed there should have been notice. They offered us water park tickets in lieu of the pool but we already had added them to our passes and then they refunded a nights stay to us without being asked.

I was very pleased with that and feel it only fair to mention that on this thread. I would stay at CSR again in a heartbeat. There were conventions there on a previous stay and it was nothing. Nice people, and no issues. This was a major issue with Grangier simply because of the size of the event. It was abslolutely massive.
I think in future I would just want to know the size and scope of the event before booking my stay. A bunch of conventioners in meetings all day is one thing. This was major and affected every aspect of the resort.
Again, I think it was remedied as well as it could be and though it was upsetting at the time, I don't think it is common and most conventions are nowhere near the size this one was.

If you booked a "preferred room" (this is a category and costs more) and you no longer want it, you will need to see if they have a "standard" or "water view" room to switch your ressie to.

Yes, you can note on your ressie Cabanas 8A or Ranchos 7B.

Thanks for coming back and giving us more detail. As I've tried to explain to others, what you experienced with Grainger was a very rare event and ethat most conventions are not like that at all. I hope you put some minds at ease.

We are going in October. I really hope the slides are open later than 5 or 6, or I will have to rethink things a bit.:headache:

I did the same thing at first. Then I called back and switched my reservation to a water view (same price as preferred) and requested Cabanas 8b. But yes, if you had downgraded to a standard room they will credit you the difference. And as for the requests, I believe you are able to list 3 requests. But if you really want one building over another, I would only request one.

Yay! Tomorrow I'll be home sweet home at the Coronado!:cloud9: I'm waiting for my wonderful DH to get home from work so we can get on the road this afternoon! I'll bring back a review and some fabulous photos!!!

Pigletto ~ THANK YOU for all of the details of your stay and clarification on the pool closing situation! You have very much put my mind at rest (along with a few other posters). We're staying in June and can't wait and I will not obsess any longer over the convention while we're there!

I so appreciate how everyone takes the time to post their experience so as to help make others have a magical stay.;)

80 days...Woo Whoo!!!

Your Welcome:) I am sorry it took so long. Once I was home I forgot about it. It really isn't a common thing. I actually like that there are conventions at this resort. The convention area is out of the way, it makes the buses and facilities quieter and less crowded and you barely notice them. Honest. I was a suprised as anyone about the size of Grangier.. but it's not common at all.:)

I'm having a tough time deciding where to stay for our upcoming trip...we originally had our heart set on the Polynesian, but after looking at the prices it's out of our budget (I thought it was around $350 a night but was shocked to find out it's closer to $450!). I've always wanted to stay at POR or POFQ, but when we got an amazing deal at CSR last year for $79 a night we "settled" for that due to the price and fell in love with the resort! So now I am really torn on where to stay...we LOVE CSR but part of me wants to try something new and stay at POR or POFQ...opinions? I'm afraid I wont like another hotel as much, but I want to stay at as many WDW resorts as possible lol!

I wish I could be more helpful. I know that slides are closed at most (if not all of the resorts) if there is no lifeguard on duty. I've never been able to find a "firm" list of pool hours for the resorts.

Have a magical time. Please let us know how things are...we've had a few reports of poor mousekeeping lately (not only at CSR, but I don't like hearing it). Also, maybe you could check out for maxiesmom the "official" pool hours for the slide.

I feel your pain. We've wanted to try a different moderate and were always torn between POR and POFQ. However, we have just had nine near perfect stays at the CSR and we hate to mess with what works. Personally, POFQ is off our list because quiet pools and a large hot tub are very important to us and POFQ does not have either; we do like the food court at the POFQ. However, in the long run, if CSR were not available, we have decided we would definitely go with POR-Riverside. We just like the theme a whole lot better, love the food court and think the pool is much better.

Will do! I'm sure we'll be at the pool at least one day while we are there so I'll be sure to check it out for ya'll.

We were there during Grainger convention but must of missed the pool closure. Did not seem to affect our stay but then we did not go to pepper market to eat except once. Mousekeeping was great and so was our room. Because of the grainger convention the golf carts were always going by and picked people up and gave rides whether they were grainger or not. Our room was beautiful and very quiet. WE would definately go back there.

In February and March (when we've been) the slide closed at 6pm which is when the lifeguards go off duty. Don't know about the rest of the year.

I just figured it was the season, until we moved to the Swan. I walked around the lagoon most nights and noticed the main pool at YC/BC had lifeguards until 9pm every night. Maybe that is just one of the perks of staying deluxe versus moderate?
I think it's due to Stormalong Bay. The big difference there is that the entire Stormalong Bay at YC/BC is closed if there is no lifeguard; it's a fenced area with a locked gate. At CSR, even if the slide is closed, the pool is open.

Unfortunately, I think you'll run into this issue at any on-property resort. The slides are closed much earlier than the pools.

This will be our first stay at CSR. Like you we wanted to try a different resort. My SIS only wanted moderate and she has stayed at CBR and we have both stayed at POFQ we decided on CSR. Now, I liked POFQ just fine, but I don't know how to compair it to others. Have they changed over all the rooms with the queen beds? That would be a positive to there. So, I am not sure if any of this helps or not.

Just back from 3 nights and 4 days at CSR! We had a wonderful time! The pools were opened later on Saturday and Sunday. They were opened from 8am til midnight. Life guards went off duty at 8pm.

We ate at the Pepper Market every day for dinner, and had gelato at Cafe Rix everyday as well! We were able to get a microwave from mousekeeping, so we were able to heat up left overs! We ate breakfast in our room, since we had the microwave.

Our safe was missing a key when we arrived, and getting a microwave was a bit tricky.

The room hair dryer was so much nicer than all the ones I've had in our rooms elsewhere on property!

Dodging golf carts was risky business at times. Some drove by way to fast.

We requested 8 a or b, or Casitas 4 or 5. We were assigned to 8A, room 8152, first floor. We loved the location! It was half way between the Dig Site and Bus stop 4. We spent many hours at the Dig site with our 6 year old! He loved the sand, but we made him stop after spending hours there after on Friday after check in. When I got his sandy clothing off him we found 5 sand fleas, and he was all bitten. So we forbade the sand after that. He still had a great time on the swings, the playground equipment, and fuseball table.

Our teenager, said that of all the Disney resorts he's stayed at, CSR and Pop are tie at #1 for him. For me, BC/SSR/CSR all tie for first! My husband really enjoyed it too. For ds6, this was his very favorite resort EVER!

The only inconvenience we ran into was the parking lot of 8A was half closed. There were barriers put up. When we checked out today, the entrance to 8 was closed and we had to exit through 9's area of the parking lot.

SAND FLEAS!! That's what it was!!!
ds (6) had bites on his ankles all week. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was biting him but not the rest of us. But he walked and kicked around in the sand for a few minutes each day while we were at CSR and the Poly. The rest of us stayed on the path because we didn't want sand in our shoes.

Makes perfect sense now.

Just back from CSR a few hours ago. Loved it there. We had Ranchos 7160 a standard view room . Bus stop 3 was right outside our door and very convenient.

Loved the Mexican food at the Pepper Market.

Last weekend the place was packed from people from Louisiana. I never saw so many New orleans Saints jerseys or LSU purple shirts in one place.
Today we were at Hollywood Studios. Indiana Jones was closed for a cheerleading competition. The place was packed with cheerleaders.

Somehow we persevered.;)

Bill

I can tell you that the LA crowd was because last week most schools here were off the whole week for Mardi Gras. It seems most everyone goes to Disney during Mardi Gras!
I am glad that you had a great visit. It is good to know that you enjoyed the Pepper Market. I have been so iffy about going.
