Coronado Springs Resort -- New Unofficial FAQ Thread -- October 2010

We're going to be at CSR 2-6 May.. I knew about the pet expo but wasn't really concerned about large crowds. I didn't book a preferred room but when I called to make my final payment friday :woohoo: the CM I spoke with was going over ther details and it seems we got "upgraded" to preferred. I work in hotel reservations and I think they may be running out of rooms and have to bump people up or out to accommodate the group.(I have to do that everyday almost so its not uncommon.) I'm hoping there won't be mass people there but I'm too excited to worry (yet)!

Getting bumped up is one thing, out is another. I booked the Moderate resort I wanted for certain reasons (bus, queen beds, etc.).

Now if they want to bump me over to the GF for no charge I think I'd be able to find a way to deal with it :rotfl:

I've been very excited also but with the Grainger convention reports and the "thousands" that the PTA convention is saying they will have, I'm starting to worry over it.

I have a question,
we will be there August 19th- September 3rd
The marina shows up as only being open seasonal, does anyone know if it is open that time of year?
also will bicycles and such be available for rent?

TIA :goodvibes

Just booked our first stay May 12th-16th, anyone have an idea if there are any conventions going on at that time??

We are super excited! :yay:

Google CSR. I don't have the site in front of me, but there's a great site out there that is all about CSR. I think I actually googled CSR conventions and stumbled on the site. It is a wealth of information and has a convention list. Let me know if u don't find it and I will post a link tomorrow!

I'm pretty sure a convention starts May 15th with a one day workshop on May 14th.

You are correct. It's the NCRA... National Cancer Registrars Association. There's a workshop the 14th and convention 15-18.

we will be at CSR May 11-19 so I had looked it up. Honestly don't think this will have any impact at all on our stay! :thumbsup2

I had to change my dates and discovered that they didn't have any standard view on Oct 15-22nd. So I had to upgrade to Water view. I wonder if there is something going on at the convention center or if they had those rooms set aside for a great discount to soon come out. I'd love a discount for that time, or I might downgrade to a Value.

I would keep checking back. When I started planning I couldn't even get all of the nights I wanted at CSR, then that changed and I could only get water view, I can now get standard view if I want to change it.

DH and I returned at 1AM on Sunday from our 7-day trip to WDW. Oh and I saw someone ask - yes the new mugs were being put out late last week. They still had some of the old mugs as well.

As always CSR was amazing. I'll write up a complete trip report later, but for now the basics:

We were upgraded to a suite in Casitas because Grainger was there. We were also offered water park tickets because the pools were closed for Grainger and we told them that was unfortunate because the Dig Site was closed when we were there in January 2010 as well.

The Grainger Convention was there when we were in WDW in January 2010, we changed our trip this year to March, so did they. A few of the Grainger employees joked that they heard we were changing our trip and because we are so much fun to be with they changed their trip as well. Yes, there were a lot of people. Yes, you could certainly tell there was a convention going on. Didd they bother us? Not at all. They are a very respectful, considerate and polite group. The bars and lounge were crowded. Pepper Market was crowded on their first night; but after that night they had their own areas set up for meals, and we never had to share a bus with anyone because they were in meetings all day and we were one of very few 'vacationer groups' staying there at the same time.

We love CSR and we can't wait to go back. I'm wondering if we book in February if Grainger will join us again - LOL ;).

If you have any questions, let me know.

Congratulations on a great trip! :-) Just to clarify...they closed the pool for use only by the Grainger convention??

To my understanding yes, the pools (including quiet pools) were reserved for Grainger convention patrons. The main pool was back up and running on Saturday after Grainger departed, at least we saw people going over there and it wasn't being guarded by a cast member to keep us unruly vacationers out ;) - HA!

Did they have all the pools closed for your whole stay or just a day ?

They appeared to be closed from the day we arrived (2/27) through the end of the official convention (3/4).

I know the Casitas quiet pool was definitely still closed on 3/2 because I was over there doing laundry at midnight - the sign was up all week about it being closed.

Wow... as much as I love CSR, that is totally unacceptable.
We would have demanded to be moved to another resort and if they didn't work with us, well, there's a lot more hotels and a lot more to do in Orlando besides Disney.

No way are we paying to stay at a resort where we are second-class guests.

I understand what you are saying, but we didn't see it that way. They did offer to find us a room at a different Moderate resort, we refused because we love CSR. We were offered water park tickets, and if we were water park people we would have taken them. Instead we took the complimentary drinks we were offered and the fantastic suite upgrade.

Ok, I am trying to plan a stay at Coronado Springs, and now I am totally confused. What the heck are the preferrd buildings? I asked for a quote from a Disney Travel company, and requested Cabanas 9A or B. And my quote states those are both preferred locations. I thought only Casitas was.:confused3

Does anyone know if they always close the pools for conventions? We will be there over the Animal Expo in early May and with two young kids the pools are very important.

You may have to call the resort to find out. They didn't close pools for Grainger last January, but they did this past week. No one arriving at any point during the time of the convention was notified prior to their arrival. There was a couple who checked in the day before us, and they only found out on Sunday that the pools were closed.

Preferred rooms are Casitas 1, 2 and 3. Cabanas 9B is "Club Level" for guests of conventions IF they pay for Club Level services during the convention.

I have not heard anything new that they've added Cabanas 9A or 9B to "preferred" listings.

We have stayed at the CSR nine times and had at least one, if not two, conventions going on while we were there. They have NEVER closed the pools at that time. I am assuming with the size of the Grainger convention and their planned activities is why they closed the pools.
